There was a lot of hype to this game.( which got me hooked) There is alot of stuff to do in this game and it is hard to get evry thing done. I found just to get to the boss of this game was easy but finding all the bannanas and stuff was hard. When I bought this game I thought it would be as good as zelda:Ocarina of Time but it was not. The graphics were great! It is bigger than Zelda.I like that you get to play the origenal DK and Jetpack which you need to to beat the game and it is fun.
OH WHAT A DISAPOINTMENT

This game is the biggest waste of time ever. Imagine a game where you have no purpose except to do the same thing, over and over again, with different characters, for literally DAYS of playing time. Great graphics and lovely music doesnt make up for the most shallow game play on the N64 since that weird chameleon game.
Why Do You Need An Expansion Pak!

I have to say this is one of the most bland, boring, idiotic games I have EVER played. Sorry if you like this game, but I found that Rareware did a pretty bad job on it. Banjo Kazooie actually made sense, while this game is simply about some monkeys, (Ugly ones at that) chasing after a crocodile who for some dumb reason hates them. The worlds look all the same, but with different backdrop, and somehow you always end up running into the same enimies, no matter WHERE you are. I found the worlds to be either too similar to the others, too big (In a bad way, which means you run around for a very long time in boring scenery and did I mention VERY annoying music) or they are just too gloomy or happy.
Another annoying part of this game is the characters. So what if there are 5 of them? The only ones that looked slightly sane were diddy and donkey kong. What I mean is that lanky kong was just plain scary, as were the two others. The graphics weren't that good, and the weapons are absolutely awful - it's hard to aim, and everytime you fire it makes an annoying noise. Your ammo is fruit, and 5 characters is way too much for the game. It means you have to go back and forth, just to get a stupid puzzle done. It's hard to control your character and though you need an expansion pack or whatever, the graphics are pretty bad. They look just like anything else, and are worse than Mario 64's graphics which are VERY good. My other peeve about this game is the collecting of objects. It goes on FOREVER, there is NO END TO IT!!! I have so many dislikes about this sgame, that I'd go on forever, but I'm going to stop right here and give up, as I did in this game.
Stick with Super Nintendo DK

This Donkey Kong 64 pales in comparison with the other Donkey Kongs for Super Nintendo. Save your money.

But, if you're a newcomer to Conker (not including Diddy Kong Racing, which I reviewed on "My List") you'll have an excellent time!!!

Every thing in this game is either really easy or really hard. Bosses are pointless and the game just gets boring. Stay away at all costs.
An Embarassment for the Franchise and its Developers...

As a huge fan of both the Donkey Kong Country series and its developer, I was eagerly anticipating Donkey Kong 64. All signs seemed to point toward excellence: huge budget, huge cart size, huge hype and optimization at 8 MB of RAM (w/ the required expansion)! Nothing could have convinced me that this wasn't the title of 1999... that is, until I actually played it.
First and most surprising is that, despite the RAM upgrade, Donkey Kong 64's graphics are splendidly mediocre. This reality is especially striking as compared to Banjo-Kazooie, a game released over a year earlier (w/o the RAM expansion) but unquestionably superior in texture detail and polygonal complexity. There are some decent lighting effects to be found in DK64, as well as some moderately interesting level design, but the overall graphical presentation is extremely underwhelming for those who have played Banjo-Kazooie or its sequel, Banjo-Tooie. Nearly all editorial reviews have commented on this disappointment (e.g. IGN).
Of course, graphics don't make the game, and a lackluster performance in the graphics department could have been forgiven if the gameplay were anywhere near its N64 predecessors (Mario 64, B-K)... yet, again, Donkey Kong 64 comes up short. This is a title that truly earned its distinction as "kiddie," since its levels are mindless scavenger-hunts masked by shallow objectives. In a title like Banjo-Kazooie, collecting items would involve a diverse set of puzzles and tasks that intergrated beautifully into the themes of the levels: saving Christmas lights from destruction to light a tree at the center of Freezeezy Peak, bringing water to a thirsty camel and looting a Sphinx in Gobi Desert, playing a gigantic organ while in the haunted cathedral of Mad Monster Mansion, watching the complex effect of your actions in the continuously evolving world of Click Clock Wood... DK64's shallow gameplay suffers even more next to the recently released (11/20/00) Banjo-Tooie, the sequel to Banjo-Kazooie; it's a comparison so one-sided it's not even worth delineating. There are numerous development teams within Rareware, and from this evidence, it's easy to recognize that an inferior one was assigned the creation of DK64: a true shame.
The mediocrity of Donkey Kong 64 would ordinarily warrant at least 3 stars, but given the proven ability of its developer, the pedigree of the Donkey Kong franchise and the massive amount of potential that Nintendo has failed to capitalize on, 2 stars is an overly generous score. I urge you to ignore the commercial machine that touts this game as the one to own, and recognize the under-appreciated wonders that the Nintendo 64 offers: Banjo-Kazooie and its sequel, Banjo-Tooie.
What A Waste Of Money!

I am a long-time fan of donkey kong. I loved the Super Nintendo games of Donkey Kong and when I saw the previews on TV for Donkey Kong-64, I figured the game would be great...BOY WAS I WRONG! I noticed 1 thing about every game from Nintendo 64 that is not a sports game. THEY ARE ALL THE SAME! Play Mario-64, then Banjo-Kazooi...notice something VERY SIMILIAR? They, as well as Donkey Kong. You do the same moves in similiar backgrounds and everything N-64 has released is the same game with different characters and titles instead of getting a new game! COME ON PEOPLE THIS IS THE SAME STUFF! But the graphics were good...
.....Yeah....

I made a wise decion when i rented this game. I was going to buy it, but i wasn't 100% sure of it. I played thought it and i think they did a ok job, but i liked the orginal DK series allot better.
They made zelda into a great 3D game, them made mario into a great 3D game but they sure did't make DK into a great 3D game!
Overall make sure you rent it first...cause it just might not be what all the hype made it look like...i would never buy this game unless i needed a dust collecter
