Great value for a great game

I've owned this game a long time, but never wrote a review. I was browsing the available PS3 games and saw that this is currently available for $19.99, which is an unbelievable price for a game with this much depth.

Many other reviewers have said it better than I can. This game combines the free-form non-linear gameplay of the GTA series into a classic RPG fantasy world. Tons of quests keep you occupied and engaged for months.

A Masterpiece

This is probably the best RPG I have played and maybe will ever play. Even without the expansion packs, it is incredible. It blows my mind to think of all the possibilities of this game. The fun almost never ends. I played with my first character for about 70+ hours combined and I am still not close to finishing. I even created a new character that I am taking in a different path. I still switch playing between the two of them. Even if you might think the missions are boring, it is always fun to just explore the expansive world that this game has. I would also highly recommend investing in the full strategy guide. It reveals so many fun and exciting secrets to go explore when you aren't sure what to do. The gameplay is brilliant and it is pretty easy to control everything once you get the hang of it. For the price it is now, this game is a must buy.

Doesn't live up to the hype

The first game I purchased and played on my new Playstation 3 was "Resistance, Fall of Man" (RFOM), which is an incredible experience, both in the game play, the story line and the remarkable graphics. RFOM truly separates PS3 from the PS2 in terms of delivering an immersing playing experience. After playing through the game three times I was ready to take on another awesome PS3 title, and the only one available to purchase that represented itself as a 1st person shooter of the same intensity as RFOM was "Oblivion". After setting up the game and playing through the first level I am thoroughly unimpressed. Frankly I intend to sell the game on ebay without wasting any more time playing it. Clearly the game seems lame by comparison to RFOM..., however I'm VERY glad that Oblivion wasn't the first title I purchased for the PS3 or I might have sold the entire game console.

Splendid

With my 5.1 sound setup, and a 47 inch LCD tv this game was spectacular.
Fantastic rpg, with MANY hours of playing. Requires real time skills, unlike famouse turn by turn rpg's.

I am very happy buying this game, one my top 5 games in PS3.

Greatest RPG ever made.

I picked up The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion when it first came out on the PS3. I had heard a lot of hype about it when it first came out on the XBOX 360 and the PC. I wasn't too sure how I would like it because I was not a fan of Morrowind or any other Elder Scrolls game before this one.

I just have to say that the "Oblivion experience" is nothing short of amazing. This game is a must-have for the avid RPG fan, even a Final Fantasy fan like myself. The music and voice-acting is professional and intriguing. The gameplay is seamless as well, and the graphics are the best I've seen in any RPG. With potentially 200 plus hours of gameplay, you can immerse yourself into this world and spend quite a bit of time exploring and getting into the role.

This game lived up to the hype. It was definitely worth $59.99

Best RPG in Years !!!

Great storyline, that you aren't required to follow. Incredible graphics and landscapes. Tons of mini-quests, dungeon crawls, special abilities and good old fashioned Easter Eggs.

My ONLY complaint is that so much time was spent on the artwork for the scenery, but nothing on the NPCs. The ability to make your character look however you want is neat, but if it's not an MMO ... it's not exactly important.

A little slow getting started, but great fun.

The first 10 minutes of this game is incredibly boring. In fact, my husband and brother both put this down by then, but when I got past creating my character (which takes a ridiculous amount of time, btw) and got out of the sewers, it was a whole new world. You can choose any quests, go anywhere, be anything. If you want to be a good guy, no problem. If you want to be evil, just kill someone who doesn't deserve it and some guy pops out of the shadows to get you into his evil guild. Very cool.

Some of it is repetitious to build up your skills, but you can choose any skills you want to specialize in and some minor skills. You can make potions, even if you aren't an alchemist, you can do spells, or melee, or sneak. I hunted deer and got venison! I think that was what got my husband back into the game, come to think of it!

Beautiful graphics. They could have done a little more with the NPCs' faces, but everything else is great. You can slip in and out of 1st and 3rd person, depending on what you like.

I think this is a game that can entertain for a long time, because after you finish with one character, you can make a completely different one and be the opposite and do other things.

good for a while but gets glitchy

For the first few months this game performed fine but recently has started to freeze constantly especially when traveling between rooms/sections and has even started freezing when i try to save/load.

What a waste of money and time. If you want to wander aimlessly in a contrived and pointless game, this is it.
