Boring and Buggy

2 Rating: 2, Useful: 2 / 2

The game looks OK and it does have a lof of options, but the bugs drive me nuts and overall I find it kind of boring. I stopped playing after a week or so. My 9 year old son hates this game too.

When I start the game up, I go to a sceen informing me not to turn off the system when it's writing to the hard drive, like every other game. For some reason, with this game I can get stuck on this screen for over a minute. I press X and nothing happens.

I'm not a huge fan of role playing games. Every few years I buy a game with a good review and then after playing I remember why I don't like games like this. It's because you do a lot of moving around and not much else.

Leveling trick????

I just bought this for my PS3 after playing it on the pc. On the PC I discovered a trick that seemed to keep the other creatures from leveling up with you. It could have been a side effect of some of the mods I was using, but so far I think its starting to work on the PS3 as well. Just don't sleep, creatures level up when you sleep! Sleep a few times to increase your strength so you can carry more stuff, but then stop sleeping completely. Your blade, magic, block, armour etc. skills will keep increasing as you use them, making battles easier and easier. Then much later, I did catch up on my sleep, slept about 20 times in a row at once, leveling up each time, and found that after sleeping I still had the same advantage over other creatures! I haven't played my PS3 version to know for certain this works on it also...

Finally...The Right Stuff

Here is my opinion of Oblivion:

Pros:
I cannot put my controller down. I sometimes play for 20-straight hours, and I am 50-years old. The entertainment factor (which is why we are all here) is second to none. Good graphics, good game play, great sound and musical scores.

Cons:
Game is a bit buggy. I suspect it has been ported from the XBox 360 version. I would love to have had this game written exclusively for PS 3.

I am viewing the game on a 42" Hitachi Plasma TV (Please, not bragging here) with a bose surround sound 7.1...a real treat of an experience.

Many many levels of fun for all experience level players. Myself, I am as green as it gets, so I have my settings on "easy", and it is still a ton of fun.

Bottom line...worth every dime.

Thanks for listening, and have a great day!

Great Gift for Teenage Guy Gamers

If you're trying to buy the love (kidding! I'm kidding!) of an older teenage boy, I bet he wants this game a lot, and you'll blow his mind if you grab it for him. (It is rated M so review it yourself to see if it meets your family's standards for language, images, etc. I don't think my sons are going to mistake the game for reality anytime soon, it's like a 2007 version of an old grade B horror flick we might have watched in the 60s, juiced up because this is, after all, 2007.)

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I recently purchased Elder Scrolls from F.Y.E. and I have to say this game is pretty engaging. I am new to the RPG world and I don't really have any interests in RPG's. I am new to Elder Scrolls, but that's just the thing. It doesn't matter if you are new to the genre or not you still will find Oblivion an addicting game to explore. The graphics are pretty good though they lack a little more rendering possibilities. But the amount of fun you can have is endless. Whats more they don't even tell you what else is possible. It is things like that you will only discover if you play the game. Though I don't fully back Official Playstation Magazines claim, "If any game is worth the price of the PS3, Oblivion is it.", but all in all it is interesting to play. I mean I am not at a loss of 64 dollars, but it's not dissapointing either.

Outstanding game - it will make you wonder where the time has gone

I recently purchased this game to help me pass the time recovering from surgery. I discovered this game has everything from a main mission to thousands of side missions. You can go from being a good guy to a killer in seconds. Much "cleaner" than Grand Theft Auto but just as enjoyable.

Fantastic!, if you've got the cash, get this one jumpin-jack-flash

This game is off-the-hook! The graphics are visually STUNNING, much improved over the Xbox version I played previously. That's why I'm recommending to everyone: buy the PS3 version if you have not purchased the game yet, or trade in the older Xbox version and upgrade to the newer PS3 version with the advanced shaders.

You will not be disappointed if you purchase this version of the game.

Im sorry but these people really must not have played morrowind. I bought this game hoping my pc would support it, nope didn't. FINALLY It comes to ps3 and I buy it. Man is this a great game. As I get into it more I think to myself, they took away just as much material as they put in. I want you to think for a second, if you played morrowind, think of all the times you played it, how you sat for hours playing it. Well if you did spend hours in morrowind then you wouldn't want to play it again because your sick of it. Well this is almost TOO close to morrowind. Its like ive done this in morrowind a million times give me some new freaking material. Took away all the good ways to level. No more unarmed skills. No more Shortsword, sword, blunt, axe skills. Now its sword and blunt. No more levitate spell. Man I loved that spell. Might be more spells missing. No more SPEARS. I know they weren't good but they could have made them sweet in oblivion but nope. The land in oblivion LOOKS THE SAME EVERYWEAR. Its not even fun to roam around and thank god for fast travel otherwise youd be spending an hour walking across the map. Hey you want to go loot this cave that looks EXACTLY like ALL of the other caves? With the EXACT same things in it. I mean come on i think they took a piece of the foresty map and right click copy, right click paste it all over. LAME. I think the ONLY good new features is the ability to block when you want and the arena. In the arena you can fight people to be grand champion while earning money. The problems? You can come right out from level one and beat everyone in the arena. No joke. I always start my characters like that now to earn like 6,000 gold by the end. Wow the grand champion of the arena sure is good if he gets beat by a lvl 2 or 3.

Fascinating, Fantastic Fun!

After playing so many "maze" games - you know, you start the game and there is only one path that you can follow to move ahead, even though they try to make it "seem" as if you have choices - this is just .. AWESOME! You can decide to cut across country and you don't bump into invisible walls, or no-entry places. In fact, you usually find some mysterious cave or ruins back off the beaten path. And the world is beautiful enough that you could just have your character sit on a rock and watch deer play, and not do ANYthing! I've spent hours playing this already and there is still so much more that the game has to offer. If you are into a great adventure, then this is it.

Best RPG Game Yet Bar None

My household has basically every gaming console including the Wii, XBOX 360, and PS3. There are over 300 recent game titles in our library. My children from the ages of 9 to 20 argue over who gets to play on our big screen and only one game is played: Oblivion for the PS3. This has been the case since its release. I think those actions say it all ...
