Give it a day and it will suck months from you!!!

I bought a PS3 mainly for this game after reading the many reviews praising it (I refuse to own a Xbox 360 as I'm a Macintosh fan and won't support the evil Gates empire). I have loved RPGs since the early days of Atari but gave up on them after playing my PS2 Final Fantasy 7 game which was the last one I completed. I tried about a dozen more afterwards but couldn't really get into them and gave up. I had no time and not enough interest. This was the first game that really rekindled my interest.
At first this game was overwhelming. So much info!! So many choices. I quickly broke down and bought a guide for this game which was a lifesaver! After about a day of playing this game things started to click. My character got some cool spells, weapons, and the storyline began to make a lot of sense. Now I think about this game while at work, in my sleep, at dinner, etc... I'm hooked! It's very engrossing. The biggest complaint I have is I can't ever stay focused on a goal because of all the cool distractions. There is soooo much to do it is ridiculous. The biggest thing is I finally care about my character (like in Final Fantasy 7). It feels real, the graphics are awesome, the surprises keep coming. It is great!! I am staying up late to play when the kids are asleep. The best thing is all the complaining of the PS3 having no great games doesn't matter. I FINALLY HAVE TIME TO FINISH A GAME I REALLY LOVE WITHOUT OTHER DISTRACTING NEW TITLES! PLAY THIS GAME!! BE PREPARED TO SPEND MONTHS WITH IT!!

Best Game Ever Made.

Seriously this quite possibly could be the best game ever made.
Pros:
Graphics are incredible, absoloutly stunning. The graphics may surpass those of the 360.
A.I. is the best I've ever seen in a game. People have conversations depending on what your character has accomplished in quests.
Cons:
The journal is a little bit hard to navigate.

P.S.
It doesn't deserve the M rating. You know a little bit of blood there but it is not Gears of War.

It's sort of like single player WoW

Think World of Warcraft... but all by yourself. Sure, the game is huge and there's tons of stuff to do - but will you want to do it? For me, it is a definite no. I hate reading long reviews so here's a breakdown.

Pros:
Huge
Open-ended (aside from the main plot)
Easy to cheat (item duplication, weak AI)

Cons:
Zero socialization
WAY over-hyped
Too Complex /
Laughable in game explanations (+1 Feather on Self... um, yay?)
Awkward fighting (or maybe I just don't like first person sword fights?)
All but pointless third person mode

I bought this game on a whim when I first purchased the PS3, since it was raved about all over the net. Terrible choice. I played it all the time... until I bought my second game. I haven't even touched ES since then. If you are looking for a new game for you PS3, go and download Tekken, Stardust HD, or Calling all Cars (or all three, which is still cheaper than this game).

Gets boring quick

After a friend advised me to buy this game in addition to reading the reviews here, I picked it up. At first, I though it was pretty cool. The environments were detailed and innovative, the menus were well organized and fairly easy to use. But the combat really sucks. I can't seem to be able to enjoy it. When creatures are sprinting all over the place and you can't keep a monster in front of you to whack or fire a spell at it just isn't fun. I think the characters are ugly, the dialog gets monotonous, and I just don't care for the evolving plot. I'm going to get the Conan game and see if it appeals to me more.

Great Game

It's a long long game, I really dislike the RPG games but, every game rating said that this is the best for ps3, so i bought it. And I can tell you, it's great, excellent game, even if you don't like the RPG's, has a great story and gameplay.

This is a great game. The story is pretty good, the graphics are awesome, and the freedom and flexibilty to do whatever you feel like with your character in game is a welcome break from most RPG's not on a PC. The graphics for Oblivion on the PS3 are just as good as they are for the 360, if not better. I have played this game for the 360 and when I purchased my PS3 I had to get this game! Any fan of RPG's or similarly styled games will not be dissapointed by this title!

Worth the price of PS3 itself!

I'm probably not your average "gamer". I am a married father who owns his own company. PS3 was a christmas purchase for my 10 year old son. Someone told me about Olivion so I bought it for myself. I am ashamed to say that I am now completly addicted. The game is truely amazing; from the amazing graphics to random characters striking up conversations with you on the street. The depth of gameplay and thought that went into this epic is unbelievable! I like that you can just roam around or complete "quests". I often get sidetracked while on a quest and I like that you can go off in a different direction and then complete the quest later. I just beat Methunes Dagon and thought the game was over but instead I have some suit of armor on order and I can still keep playing.

Nice visuals but slow game that feels outdated. Your character jumps through the air looking like a frozen robot.

I never played oblivion before.I am not a hard core gamer, but occasionaly get into the mode with my PS3.

After discussing with few people on Amazon PS3 board, I bought this game. WOW!! this game is addictive.

PROS
-----
1. Spectacular Graphics.
2. So much of freedom of what you want to do.
3. Good story line.

CONS
----
1. Some of the caverens looked monotonous.
(But I do not mind, I go there because I can make some gold)

TIPS
Make sure you save your game after entering the oblivion when you try to retrive the great sigil stone. This level is timed, and unless you have this save point you will fail the main quest if you do not make it to the sigil tower in time.(I lost a day of game play because I did not do it)

I am totally enthralled & immersed !!

I love this game. I have become so into it that I sit at work looking forward to getting home and playing. There is more variety and options in this game than in any console game I have ever played. There are so many things to do, choices to make, and hours upon hours of non-repetitive game play. The plot and storyline is good and keeps you interested. There are so many ways to change and customize your character, his weapons, attire, etc. You can even choose good and evil to an extent. And how long the game lasts is up to you as you can choose to pursue the storyline straight out, or complete many, many side quests that deviate from the main plot. If you are a fantasy or role-playing junkie at all, you will love this game. My other few games have been negelected since I got Oblivion. The graphics also rock might I add and the character interaction is not perfect, but is much better than other games out there. If there are any bugs in this game you don't notice them for all the fun you are having. This one is a PS3 must buy !!
