EXTREMELY hard and very repetitive.

My best advice is to spend your money on another game like Nascar Heat or MX 2002. Because this game is just WAY WAY too hard and there is almost no motivation to play it other than the flashy graphics and cool cars so only get it if you are into that stuff and even then it is a gamble.

This would be a good game for people who are risk takers.

Extremely fun, but also extremely annoying at times.

Project Gotham has some extremely beautiful graphics and the physics of the game are very nice. Although there are some very big problems that I have with the game. The first would be the computer controlled cars, there always seems to be one car that shoots ahead of everyone and almost runs a perfect race, and then the rest of the cars just seem to battle with you and try to spin you out in corners. Another problem I have is in the kudos challanges, even though they are fun, they are also extrememly challanging and you have to run almost perfect turns to be able to achieve a gold medal. But probably the biggest problem I had with the game comes in the multiplayer options. First of all you can't race with a friend and then some computer controlled cars, also the kudos counter in the upper right hand corner gets right in your way on right hand turns and it's almost impossible to see the turn going into it when you're racking up some kudos and this leads to you taking the turn wrong and smashing the wall, this is a big problem and it really shouldn't have happened, all you need to do is get rid of the big KUDOS and just have a little number that racks up while you race. But even though there are some big problems with the game it is extremely entertaining and also the depth of cars is amazing, but i feel they left off some bigger name cars like Lambergini and Jaguar, but they might be just leaving those for Project Gotham 2, which i can't wait for.

PGR is the best X-Box Game

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

I've had my X-Box and PGR since Christmas '01, and I must say that, although I have purchased five other X-Box titles since then, PGR remains my personal favorite by far.

Now, I am not a veteran gamer. In fact, the X-Box is the first console that I have purchased since my antique Nintendo from back in the day (way back). But I have to tell you, the X-Box is a fantastic piece of work, and its games are amazing. I have to laugh when I see PS-2 and Cube fans bash the X-Box; either these guys are extremely harsh critics or they are just plain stupid. X-Box rocks...period.

As far as PGR goes, I personally prefer it to Halo and RalliSport Challenge; although I highly recommend both of these titles as well with 5 and 4 stars respectively. DOA3 is very cool as well; however, I do not recommend StarFighter... of all the titles I own, it is the only one I seldom like to play.

Peace.

My hardest game to beat so far.. By Gamemaster Jason

Whew! I've gotten all the medals in the game and have actually beaten PGR. My hands are still sore, and my eyes are really hurting which means that I will be going off games for a couple of days. This game is hard and I love the challenge, but it is the hardest 'darn' game I have ever played in my life. I am never going to start over because I have suffered too much in this game to continue the game over again. Everyone who hasn't yet beaten this game, that's ok, since it was kinda hard fa me 2....

Graphics 5/5 The graphics are very solid and he car designs are very realistic. My favourite car, the Fararri is hot and I love the graphics in this game. Very Good.

Gameplay:4/5 Due to the lack of the XBOX controllers precision, I give this game a four. It is not the games fault, it's microsofts.

Satisfaction: 5/5 U will not believe how good u feel when you sucessfully complete this game. Yes I am feeling sore all over, but u no wat I meen.

Overall: 5/5 Great Game Microsoft, and keep up the good work. G2G

Great graphics and sound but frustrating and restriicting

3 Rating: 3, Useful: 1 / 2

This is only a buy if all you care about in a game is it's graphics and sound. Project Gotham Racing is a decent game that is very strong is some categories, but could of been much more in others. It's delivers a great experience for fans of racing/driving games, but isn't that fun for the average gamer.

Gameplay:
I don't think I've ever felt less freedom in an X-Box game. Your routes are blocked off for you. No shortcuts, no pedestrians, no side routes. Even if you do unlock free-roam mode. All it is the "freedom" to knock down cones on about 5 streets that supposedly make up a stage (Times Square, Fisherman's Wharf). The difficulty level is very much a problem too. Opponents are outstanding. I like games that give you a challenge, but still a decent chance of winning. Project Gotham doesn't. Once you get to hard difficulty, expect it to take you over 15 tries just to finish in the top three in a race. Gotham doesn't have very many problems in the glitch department. Loading times are short and aren't required very often. The game runs very smoothly giving the user a realistic driving experience.

Graphics:
Wow! That word describes the visuals in Project Gotham very well. Gotham takes advantage of the shadowing and lighting effects that the X-Box can produce to the highest extent. The sun reflects off of certain types of metals and colors differently than others. When the image of your car reflects off of the wet street you are driving over, it produces an image so realistic it's creepy. The cars and cities are modeled almost perfectly. When you are cruising through New York in the game, you really feel like you are cruising through New York. Same with the other cities included in Gotham. The developers did a great job of capturing the unique aspects of each city. Worried about the views? Don't be. You can choose from over five pre-made views, or create your own. If you want with graphics that will impress your friends, pick Gotham up.

Sound:
What's not to like about a game with the soundtrack feature. Gotham comes with over 30 songs. If that's not enough, you can rip your own music and create your own radio stations. Real DJ's will introduce your music as you are driving. That was a feature that I found to really enhance the game. I wish more X-Box games would be compatible with this great soundtrack feature. Sound effects are nothing short of perfect. The screeching of the tires and collision sounds are uncanny. When playing Project Gotham, it really sound like you are in a car driving.

Control:
Couldn't be better. The triggers will control acceleration and braking if you feel comfortable with that. Triggers are used for this control in most racing games, so this is the control that is best for the majority of people. They even included the option to dive with the analog sticks using one to slow down and speed up and the other to steer. It's a nice alternative for people who have difficulty reaching the triggers or just twitchy thumbs.

Overall:
Project Gotham Racing is full of "bells and whistles", but gets old real fast. There's only so much fun in racing around and around on a linear track. The people who should buy it are people who enjoy playing games like Nascar Thunder. For most people, this is a rent. It just doesn't have enough lasting appeal to be a worthy purchase.

Recap:
Gameplay: 5.5
Graphics: 9.5
Sound: 10.0
Control: 9.0
Fun: 3.5
Overall: 7.0

straight GARBAGE

This game is not realistic racing you can barely turn if you are going over 10 miles per Hour around a curve which happens alot. And then you CAN'T EVEN CRASH you just bounce off the other car like it's a rubber ball. PLEASE Do not even rent this game unless you just love almost every racing game thats been made!!

Fun racing for the entire family

I love to slide and do the showboating tricks. That is more important to me than winning the race. The chance to earn "kudo" points by showing off in this game rewards the part that I find the most fun!

This is a game that I can play with my kids (ages 7, 9, 15) and have fun. Warning: I played "easy" on my youngest and she beat me so I switched to normal play and she STILL beat me. Oops! This one is as much fun for us single player as it is with up to 4 players.

A mode for off-track driving (something like Midtown Madness) would have added to the fun. My daughters and I invented a "tag" game where we ignore the race part of the game. However, we have to stick to the track which limits the boundaries of our game. This doesn't stop us from having lots of fun with our invented game though!

I rated this below a 5 because it is also sometimes difficult to judge the corners. A lot of this is undoubtedly my lack of skill, but it is frustrating to cut a corner close because I couldn't see that the wall went a little bit further out. However, as I play the tracks I learn the corners better.

The game has a good variety of tracks which allow different styles of play. Some have lots of hills and/or corners for those that prefer the tricks. However, there are plenty of straight-away tracks that are more appropriate for pure racing.

I totaly agree with what Matt McDougall said below.

"Pros: This game has the best graphics I've ever seen in a racing game. The car models and lighting effects are lovely. The control system works well, especially using the right stick for manual shifting. The car responds more as I'd like it to than in any other race game I've played. I also highly approve of the ability to customize a few features, though I'd have liked to see more. "

"Cons: Having to unlock virtually every car. If I'm playing a racing game, I want to drive a cool car. I don't want to have to play the whole game all the way through just to get it. I don't want to have trouble even unlocking the first vehicle (twenty of them, of twenty-three, are locked). The MR-2, Mini, and SLK just get old. Why do I have to battle to unlock the Beetle? The F50, okay. The Aston-Martin, yeah, but a Beetle? You should at least get the cars as you progress in levels, but no. That's not good enough. For the casual racer, this game is enfuriating because of the level of effort you must put into it for so little return. "
