halo is turtle poo

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 17 / 38

i am dissapointed with the lack of serious gripes that the halo-haters, mostly pc fpsers, are able to post on this site. it is true that halo is turtle-poo, the worst first person shooter since the original doom, but it needs more than just one sentence to sum up exactly how god awful it is. first off the graphics. pc gamers have long been aware of the superior resolution available on computer monitors. those 14 and 15 inch screens display graphics with unbelievable clarity. there's no need to purchase a large screen (say 60" plasma) to play half life when you could instead sit 2 ft away from the monitor perched on your desk. the overwhelming feeling that you get from watching halo dominating your room on a big screen is just intimidating. no pc gamer likes to be intimidated. and the clarity of the graphics themselves can create a "false sense of reality". this has been known to cause nausea in susceptible players. not something to be desired, i'm certain. and the sound. downright terrible. played through 100 watts per channel dolby 5.1 surround (with a sunfire subwoofer) halo can actually shake a room and fool the law enforcement agencies into thinking that a localized war has broken out in your living room. when taking the threat of the swat team breaking down your door into consideration, playing a video game on a pc, with those dainty pc speakers and $50 subwoofer is surely a safer bet. oh, and control. die hard gamers assume a certain amount of risk in the pursuit of their passions. what could be scarier than the possibilty of developing carpal tunnel syndrome from all those hours leaning over a keyboard and mouse keyboard. it's almost cheating to play a game with an ergonimically designed and instinctive controller relaxing on a couch or lounge chair. i could go on. the difficult ai. the childish, almost refreshing, humor of the allied marines and covenant grunts. the intricate and novel plot. it's clear why many people can't stand this abomination of a game. pc's are the domain of the fps. if you can't afford a pc, or if it's not your thing, then a ps2's tried and trusted last generation technology is the next best thing. red faction is worth purchasing for it's graphically destructible environments alone. easily worth any of the innovations in bungies tired halo. halo is doggy doo doo. don't buy it. and definitely don't buy the sequel. i don't want to have to wait behind you on line.

I have played everything from bond, to doom, to Counter Strike and Half Life. Halo matches up with the best of them. It is not necessaraly better from all respects, but a very good game none the less.

Halo is an awesome game! I really enjoy riding in the warthog with a marine in the back with the huge machine gun in the back.
The sticky grenades are cool too. The multiplayer set-up is awesome! I love this game!

Halo was College to me...

Halo, first of all, is the best game ever. I don't like alien fantasy style games at all, I would rather play a game like Medal of Honor with human ememies and real weapons. However, Halo is so good in every other respect that I have no choice but to adore it.

The single player is great... the landscapes and levels are so intricate. The enemies react to your actions and try to outwit you. Weapons and vehicles are excellent. but...

The real gem is the multiplayer. Absolutely phenomenal. In college (see title) we had two X-boxes hooked together in separate rooms. About 8 of my buddies and I played about 5 hours a day. Halo sigle-handedly lowered our collective GPA by about 4 points.

You can play simply deaths to win (slayer), team deaths, tag (oddball), king of the hill (you're team defends an area from invasion), or epic games of capture the flag, and if you don't like any of these you can create and save your own. The best combo that my friends and I discovered was Capture the flag on a board called blood gultch. One game took about 90 minutes and we each had over 30 kills each. leave one man back near the flag, put a man in the hills with a sniper rifle, and have two men drive up on an armored car to the other flag. Sniper take out people above the flag from a covered position, have one of the men use the rocket launcher while the other makes a dash for the flag, preferrably with a shotgun.

Anyway, sweet, sweet game for both sober and drunk fun. The one downfall of the game is that the boards aren't bigger or more complex. However, hopefully Halo II will solve that problem.

What an amazing game

I thought this game would be an excellent game before i even played it. Boy was i right. i have actually played this game at babbages (Game Store) and i was totally astounded. the controls are kind of awkward at first but eventually everyone gets used to any game controls. I dont know what that one person was smokin when he gave it one star but he is totally wrong. i recommend this game to everyone.

I own a Game Cube, Playstation 2, Dreamcast and Xbox. They all are impressive, but the game Halo is the best game I have ever played. I understand some people only like driving games or sports games, etc. This game ought to come with a money back offer if you don't like it. It is just that good! First off it's not just a first person shooter. You can drive vehicles and fly vehicles and go just about anywhere. The best thing is the story line flows from level to level. The AI is intuitive and the graphics are out of this world.( I have mine hooked up with in High Def with composite outs) Anyway, get the game and get the Xbox. Nuff Said

Halo...Combat Evolved Doesn't Begin to Describe It

...Halo...oh my.

I've only had an XBox for a few weeks (purchased after the recent price drop) and if no other game ever came out on this system, Halo would make the price worth it.

It's the greatest first person shooter ever made and it draws you into the game like nothing else. You'll find yourself constantly checking ammo, worryng about the next corridor, and trying to piece together the great story of mankind's battle with the Covenant.

Speaking of the Covenant, you won't find a more challenging game (which ramps up difficulty perfectly) anywhere. Enemies really do hide, duck, retreat, regroup, and attack (I know, I know, a lot of games make this claim, but Halo delivers).

You'll be in epic firefights along the coastline or beaches with marines fighting beside you INTELLIGENTLY. Of course, there are some twists and turns in the story and great vehicles to pilot, too.

Graphically, the game is outstanding. Beautiful, detailed scenery (that looks better the closer you get), long views, solid framerate, and cool lighting (your flashlight is actually useful in this game). Plus, it has a two-player cooperative mode. Nothing beats playing Halo with a friend. Again, the graphics don't suffer a bit and the framerate is perfect.

Oh, I said cooperative multiplayer. What about deathmatch? Oh, yeah, it's in there and it rocks! Four players (sixteen if you link XBox consoles) on massive levels iwth vehicles, weapons, and a perfect framerate. Plus, there are hundreds of multiplayer combinations.

All in all, Halo is the best game for any console (yes, I'm including Grand Theft Auto III for the PS2 and Resident Evil for the GC).

Experience it Fully in Glorious Dolby Digital 5.1

Just got my Xbox over the weekend after the pricedrop, and rented Halo from Blockbuster. Hooked it up to my DD5.1/DTS home theater, and the experience has blown me away. The Advanced AV pack is definitely worth the price if you're going to hook up the Xbox to your home theater. Bullets from cover fire zing from behind, my marines talk to me in real-time, i.e., the voices move from speaker to speaker when I turn my view, and the sound effects are very faithful to the position that they're supposed to originate from, it's like being immersed in a DD5.1 movie! And the soundtrack rocks!

I'm also a veteran FPS player, having finished Max Payne and RTCW last fall and winter respectively on the PC, and boy, Halo is the best of the breed so far! While I miss my mouse and keyboard sometimes, I'm getting used to the regular Xbox controller.

Definitely worth the experience. I'm going to buy it (Halo) as soon as the sun shows up in the morning.

As a side note, Dead or Alive 3 also generates sounds in Dolby Digital 5.1.

This game is the king of all games

Halo is without a doubt one of the best games that I have ever played since Grand Theft Auto III. The graphics are outstanding and there are none of those annoying glitches that make gameplay easier or harder (such as being able to fall through the ground in GTA vice city or the incredibly stupid hostages in Socom Navy seals). Not that this game doesn't provide a challenge. 4 difficulty levels (easy, normal, heroic, and legendary) allow you to put you skills to the test throughout 10 imaginative levels. Not that this game is entirely without fault, however. The dificulty levels aren't moderated at quite the right ratios. I completed the game on easy in about 7 hours (not at once) but on normal, I was killed about 5 times on the same level. Also, the multiplayer doesn't have bots (computer controlled characters) that you can use, so there has to be at least two peple playing and even then it's not as fun as it could be. These minor flaws, though, do not detract from the game to a significant degree and I can gaurantee you that you will absolutely love this game.

The best XBox has to offer

I own this game and only play it when i have my friends over. The story is to lame to get into. I have beatin it, but only because a friend likes shooting things and wanted to beat it.
Dont get me wrong this is a good game, but if you want a real FPS get one for PC.

Ok the story...super soldier fights aliens. Not to original huh? The game has nice graphics but you run so slow its like your CRAWLING!

I recommend you get this game if you have friends over all the time and play multiplayer. It has some of the best multiplayer options out there. Me and my friends have spent countless hours hunting each other and running over each other in vehicles. never-the-less, the lack of story lags this game down alot. If you only have an XBox and like to mindlessly shoot everything in sight or if your looking for a party favorite this game just may be for you...but if your looking for the "best-game-ever" wait a little for Zelda. (I personaly would never call a FPS the best game ever)
