If you want a thrilling killing game, this one is great! Blows Counter-Strike and Goldeneye away! It also has a great multiplayer game so you can play with your friends. Great Graphics, easy controls, and a fun idea make this game into game that you would want to buy!

Simply Amazing

I just recently bought this game for about $10 dollars. I had always heard is was awsome but had never even played an xbox(I've been a PS2 fan for a while). After I played the first couple of levels I was not dissapointed. This game is simply amazing even today, I can't possibly imagine how good it must have seemed back when it came out. The gameplay is terrific, and so are the graphics. The sound and music to the game is awsome. I highly recommend that this game is bought and not just rented because it is well worth owning.

Just another First Person Shooter

I feel that this is just like ever other first person shooter game. There is nothing revolutionary about it, it has a pretty basic story line, and the cinematic aren't extraordinary.

The game play is the usual, grab a gun and start shooting up enemies. You have your simple weak enemies, your intermediate enemies, and you have your strong enemies, just like every other game. The weapons are very simple and slim pickings. There isn't a wide selection of weapons, just a few to pick from. The levels get repetitive and get too long at some points.

The story line is all right. Your trying to find out what Halo is use for, and come to find out it's a tool use to kill creatures for food. So, once you find that out, you destroy the thing. Nothing fantastic, that's it in a nut shell.

The cinematic are just the same as game play. You don't get the cool graphics like in other games, just the choppy and broken version, just like in the regular game play. Even the last cinema is shameful. When Halo is destroyed, a piece of Halo goes through the other side of itself and is through it before it explodes. Sad and pathetic.

If you read all that I said, good for you. If you skimmed through it, then just read this. I didn't like Halo because of the simplistics of the game and guns, the story line and the cinematics. But if you like shoot 'em up games, then I guess you can go buy it.

good, but not incredible

I bought Halo a couple of weeks ago because I wanted to see what all the commotion was about. Initially, I was skeptical. I've played a lot of games of various kinds for both PlayStation and XBox. The graphics that were supposed to be so fantastic I thought were okay, but nothing to write home about or worth flipping out for. They were by no means incredible. After all, it's just a first-generation XBox game. Maybe they were good enough two years ago, but since then, I've become more demanding. A lot of lesser known titles, like Project Eden, Shadowman: The Second Coming, Hunter (or even Morrowwind) have graphics just as good. As for the game play, it was fun, but becomes repetitive. Yeah, the aliens are cute, and it feels good shooting them down, but come on - that gets boring after a while. That's why I like titles like Project Eden better. They combine shooting with role play or puzzle elements. You actually have to think besides shoot! There are absolutely no puzzle elements in this game. ... As for driving the vehicles, I found controllling them to be so counter-intuitive, it was much easier just getting out and walking. Also, you don't know where to go, so wander around aimlesslessly, hoping you're going the right way. What I do like about this game, however, is that no matter how lost you seem, you always end up in the right place, sooner or later. You aren't given any maps, though, so you often wonder where you are. At least you're not always on your own, though, since members of your unit will often accompany you. Even though it's not all that bad, it's not all that good, either. Eventually, they'll come out with a game for the XBox that'll blow away all other games - even Halo - up until that point. Halo will then be seen to have been a precursor to these, but it is by no means one of them.

THE best constructed game ever.

Game Control

Its true that a keyboard and mouse is best for games like these, but if you get used to playing with a gamepad, you will find the game more fun. At first when I played Quake 3 on ps2, it was hard, but after I got used to the controlling, it was easy. Everything seems hard at first, but give it some time and practice and you will see results. If you still cant play with a gamepad then wait till they come out with a keyboard and mouse for xbox. If you seen the movies for this game, you know that its really not only the graphics that make this game good, its the real life physics, animation, sound, story, and A.I. that makes this game so good.

You know I heard all the pre-release hype about the Xbox and Halo, how it was the sytem selling title and how it was going to revolutionize the FPS (First Person Shoter) genre. I heard all that and hoped that it was true. I have not played a title in a while that has kept me playing for more than a few levels. I'm not one of thise guys who has to play a game all the way to the end even if it is just OK. A game has to keep my interest.
I got my Xbox the day it came out and I got Halo as well. The game started and I thought, well... Looks pretty. Then I played through the first level and I had to force the controller from my hand. I knew the game was going to be way too short for my tastes. And now that I just completed it on the "normal" setting I know that it could have been a hundred levels and I would still think it was too short.
This is not just a great game, a great Xbox title, or a good FPS. It is one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I have had in a few years. I will never look at the "experience" the same way.
I read the article about Halo on Amazon before I played the game and after. I don't see where those "cons" exist in the game at least as cons.
Yes, several maps are used multiple times, but while your playing you never care because they are always different as time passes in the game. A good example is the ship you begin the game on comes under attack and is boarded in the first level. The ship crashes and later you find yourself inside the wreck. Corridors are collapsed and fires burn throughout. Same map, totally different experience.
The save feature is perfect and after a while you forget your worries about "checkpoint save" problems you have had in other games. Another good game Perfect Dark used a level system that makes this one look like a work of art. The people who designed the "checkpoint" placement must have had the same problems in previous games because they avoided them here by placing them in all the right places. No large dangerous fire fight or trap goes unrewarded without a checkpoint, and at any time you can save and quit the game only to start again later at the last checkpoint you passed.
Now the 30fps. Now you play the game and honestly tell me that 30fps hurts your playing experience. If it went any faster it would probably be too difficult. People who state this as a problem act as if the game moves at a snails pace. It doesn't and after a fire fight or two you'll be happy for the time to make decisions.
All the Pros listed are there though. The AI especially. OH MY GOD! The AI is the best I have ever seen in this type of game. Bad guys duck, dodge, run for cover fire from cover, talk to eachother, curse your good marine cyborg name, run and get help when outnumbered or outclassed, and your buddies are even better. I remember only a few times they acted like total morons which is par for the course for most AI buddies in FPS games. They assist eachother, apologize for accidents, flank enemies and actualy attempt to outsmart their alien foes which their foes try to do to them as well. They outsmarted me once or twice.
I can't say it enough, Best AI ever.
Now what keep you in the gae though is the story which I will reveal none of here besides to say that I can't wait for Halo 2. That AI makes you feel like the cutscenes are going on all the time as the Marines will talk to you and act as if they all know you. The whole game feels like a movie and your the action hero star. You will feel happy about what happens, scared, sad, and even heart pumping excitment which should be the heart of the game and is. More than once did I feel upset that a marine followed me into combat and fell to enemy fire. Not upset enough to quite playing but instead to comntinue on i order to "avenge his good name!"
Buy this game if your an XBOX owner. I plan on playing it through again myself and letting a buddy join in, in the games Cooperative mode. The Multipayer is pretty good, it is actually the only complaint I have about the game. There are not bots, or fake opponents. Luckily there are a lot of people I know who enjoy playing the multiplayer so that is not that big of a problem.
In conclusion this game is a terriific FPS, a fantastic action game, a wonderful War movie, sci-fi / military escape and the best game I have played in a long time.

HALO. This game I had to pass over at E3, there were too many other games not surrounded by 200 gamers, and they wer only showcasing multiplayer.

So, I waited until the X-Box Unleashed event at LA. There I played about an hour of Halo and talked with part of the development team.

The game is beautiful, one of the best looking games I've seen. The controls are easy to manage, once you make sense of their design. In short order I was playing almost as well as I did in GoldenEye after months of playing. The Warthog(a 4x4 with mounted gun) took some time getting used to, but after I got it down, it's maneuverability was amazing.

Talking to the developer guys... one of them talked about how one of the lead programmers made a few bets about this controller outperforming keyboard mouse junkies... apparently he collected a good amount of money, people ate their words. Everyone their came to love the controls.

best game ever other than halo2

This is a very good game with very good graphics for its time and amazing game play. There just isnt enough good things to say about this classical game it will go down in the books as one of the best games of all time along with its sequal which is even beter. This game is very fun ,looks great and detailed and has a very good story line and bad ass main character to play with.Every thing from the guns to the vehicles feel uniqe and look good and the aliens are very well done. This was the best game out not only for the xbox but for any consol but until halo2 came out it even did beter and was a much beter game. This game is still great and even a few years after i beat i still have fun playing it and campaign is still great ,this game just never gets old.Any true xbox fan knows how amazing this game is and even if you don have xbox its worth buying just for this. This is beter than any other popular games for other consols such as gta's,zelda, marios, half life 2 and all the others. What else can i say besides this is the game responsible for me buying my xbox in the first place and realizing what i was missing out on for so long .ITS JUST ONE OF THE BEST GAMES TO COME OUT IN A LONG LONG TIME.Buy it if u didnt already!!!
