Here it is, the system seller. Halo lets you infiltrate enemy bases, either with computer AI or with a friend. And not only on foot, but you can also jump in and out of military vehicles on the fly with no load times or pauses. Add to that an incredibly atmospheric and dynamic Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack, and you have a must buy war fps/vehicular combat game.

Halo is a great game. It is easily the best game made for the Xbox. The game is rather short, but you get a lot of action and a lot fun in this short gameplay time. You also get a lot for your money. It is well worth it! I would say that if you are an experienced gamer, the gameplay time from start to finish would be about 8 hours. The game has the best story of any game. There are 4 vehicles to master. 2 for land, and 2 for that fly. (The flying ones are sooo awesome!, but the land ones are amazingly fun too!) All are very fun. Also, the graphics, sound, etc. are absolutely amazing. I bought this game as soon as I got my Xbox, and I have no regrets. I have showed it to all my friends, and they love it too. Also, multiplayer is very fun. There are around 30 multiplayer games to play, and when Microsoft goes online with this game, you can play it online. The controls are a little awkward at first, but amazingly easy to get used to. There is mild language in the game, and a good bit of blood (it is very realistic), but other than that, the game is not too bad. I would recommend it for ages 9 and up. You do have to use your head in this game, but it is the funnest game ever.

Pros:

--- Amazing graphics, sound ect.....
--- Super easy controls once you get the hang of them (I would say they take about 15 minutes to get used to).
--- Very, very fun.
--- The best storyline ever!
--- The sound and graphics make you feel as though you are really there, and the gentle to hard rumble of the Xbox controller add to this amazing experience.
--- the game allows you to choose your skill level (EASY--and when they say easy, they mean easy....this skill level is super easy. NORMAL--this level is a little easy and a little hard. This is the funnest skill level. HEROIC--this level is pretty dang hard. LEGENDARY--this is super, super hard. Monsters are fast and take many bullets to die.
--- The game saves automatically about once every 30 seconds at checkpoints, and it also saves when you exit (This way you will never loose your game).
--- Saving automatically does not interfere with your game.
--- Saving, gameplay, and loading are fast and super smooth.

Cons:

--- the game is almost too short, but if you are inexperienced, or just want to sit back and enjoy the amazing scenery this may be a good thing, because this game could turn long if you take your time.
--- (I can't think of any more Cons:!!!)

(on a scale from 1 to 10)

Controls: 9.5

Graphics: 10

Sound: 10

Tilt: 10

Gameplay: 9.5

Value: 10

Overall: 10

Recommendations:

1) A Pelican S-Video/AV Cable w/ 24 karat gold connectors: This slightly improves the graphics, but improves the already perfect sound by 100%! Amazing!

2) System Link Cable (if you plan on playing with more than 4 people).: This allows you to get up to 16 players on this game by hooking 4 Xboxes together and hooking each of them to a different TV!

3) If you plan on taking your game to a friends house to play, and don't want to take the whole Xbox console, get a memory unit (Xbox memory card).

If you plan on getting an Xbox, do yourself a favor and get Halo: Combat Evolved. It's by the most respected company...Microsoft!!!

Halo lands you in the role of the Master Chief. He is the last of his kind. A genetically enhanced super soldier and the ultimate weapon against the Covenant. The game begins with you being shot down on the ancient ring world of Halo. Your mission is to regroup with the remaining survivors from your colony and drive the alien race away from earth.

The graphics in this game are amazing. Even though they run at only 30 frames per second. The particle effects, the snow, the weapons, everything looks great. The controls are awesome and take no time getting used to. The only button that was any trouble at all was the left thumbstick when I tried to crouch and move at the same time. Still though great button layout and makes use of all the buttons.

After playing this game for countless hours I can verify it is totally addicting. There are plenty of different weapons and vehicles to become familiar with. Your weapons range from Assault Rifles, Shotguns and Sniper Rifles to Plasma Rifles and Stationary guns. There are four vehicles that you will find in the game, Warthog(recon vehicle), Scorpion(Tank), Ghost(skimmer) and the Banshee(plane). My one complaint is that you repeat many of the same levels at the end of the game.

The true strength of this game though is in the multiplayer option. You can play threw the campain with friends. Also there are other multiplayer games like Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Slayer, Oddball and Race. In my eyes this game is a system seller. If you have an X-box your missing out if you don't have Halo.

I've been scrolling around reading other people's review for this game. I also read some of the ones that gave this game only 1 star. As an owner of a PS2, GC, GBA, and Xbox ( I blew out my December's pay check and bought them all on the same night ) I found myself restlesstly glued to the big Xbox controller during the holidays season all the way up to July, why? one word: HALO.
I've spent more time on this game than I did on GTA3, MGS2:SoL, Super Smash Bros. M. combined.I'm not going through all the details of this game because other reviewers already did. What I'm trying to do, though, is give HALO the credit it deserves.
... As a long time gamer ( back in those Jurassic days when my cave men buddies was playing with the Atari ) I found HALO to be the most flawless in game play, graphic, and story.
As for several reviewers who said that the hevicle control in HALO was too difficult, here's what you did wrong:
1. Do not look at the hevicle for control, rather, pay attention to the clear blue targeter in the middle of the screen
...One guy boasted by saying that there are no storyline in HALO, rather, it's just a shoot'em up type of game. This guy obviouly have NEVER, EVER play HALO before.
One kid even mentioned that HALO is too easy. Try playing it through in Legendary mode ( even with 3 other players ) and the enemy AI will make you wet your little Huggies diapers.
As for the graphics, HALO shutted them up because they know that their PS2 and their GC cannot match it.
I think that I've pretty much proved my point there ... maybe something's still missing. If you want some prove to back me up, say .... you've never played HALO before, try reading EGM issue #150, and #153. They have the full scoop on HALO ( hey, they're the most bought game mag. in the States ) and they even posted it for GAME OF THE YEAR.

Halo is perfect. There is nothing I would change about it. If there were flaws, I came to be as familiar and unconscious of their presence as a childhood scar on my knee. The brilliance and scope of this game causes me to think it was almost a mistake; could they have planned all of this?

The game, as a single-player shooter is excellent. The difficulty levels are effectively challenging. When I completed the game on one, I did not tire of the plot and want to toss the game out. I was just as intensely engaged every difficulty level. The different ending on the final difficulty level was a nice touch.

I have not played a cooperative shooter this fun since the original Contra. While I was enlisted in the Marine Corps, my roommate and I, spent months completing it every night-using different tactics each time. For example, we would beat it using only alien weapons or only pistols and sniper rifles. The possibilities are almost endless.

The multi-player feature is peerless. While deployed, I spent six months FAPed -out on guard duty. This game provided 24 hours-a-day tournaments amongst 30-40 marines, for 6 months straight. Believe me, there is nothing about the game, no weapon capability, no 2 weapon combo, no area of a multi-player level, no type of tournament, no secrets, we didn't know...or see in our sleep. I vehemently recommend it for any profession that requires you to stand-by on call (with others), there isn't a more fun way to spend the time.

I can only hope that Halo 2 maintains the same legendary quality.

Paid off

I want to start off by saying I was paid off by Microsoft, they paid me millions of dollars just so that I would give Halo a positive review, because we all know how badly it needs it. If I didn't give it 5 stars, who would? Possibly one of the 700+ so far who have given it 5 stars...well Microsoft must have paid them millions too! But I resisted the temptation.

And what is with the name HALO? You would think the planet was...I don't know...a ring or something huh? And don't get me started on those clear and precise graphics, what is this supposed to be, a movie? Sheesh. I like my old PS and its distorted, pixelated graphics and limited color schemes. And the controller...how dare they make a bigger controller, they must think that they are better than the rest. Everyone knows that they all have to be basicly uniform in design whether one is more comfortable or not. And who came up with this world where you actually have to walk to where you are going, I just want to be able to run at lightning speeds, and fly and all that jazz. Who wants to play a game where you have human limitations where you can actually take damage and die?

And the aliens look too funky. I will have you know that the last time I was visiting my alien friends they didn't look anything like this. Microsoft should redesign the aliens to look more like the real thing. And those weird weapons...don't they know that all aliens have phasers? Sheesh. Microsoft should have done their research better. The human guns are lame too...machine guns and pistols and shotguns...that's lame. They should use real guns, like phasers. And there are no reloading animations, like when you are reloading the shotgun you should be able to see him insert the shells - what? He does? Oh...well you should be able to see him reload magazines by hand, shell by shell like they do in real life, only with phasers. And all guns should be 100% accurate like in real life. When I shoot my machine gun it doesn't kick or anything and every bullet is smart and knows where to go on its own, not like Halo where the bullets from a machine gun sort of spray. Who came up with that effect?

I don't like the controls either. You should only be able to look in the direction you are running. If I wanted to be able to see 360' degrees and back up and all that I would invest thousands in virtual reality games.

I wouldn't even like this game if Microsoft hadn't made me like it through promotional materials and by paying me off. They pay everyone off. I get a check in the mail every weekend from Microsoft just so that I will stay loyal. But I don't like using good software so I am going to start using real software from those companies that keep going out of business because they are all so much better...with their no support or updates and all the flaws and pricing schemes and...where was I?

Overrated

I think I'm going to be one of the few who think this game is absolutely overrated. But let me explain.

What makes halo such a "great" game is not what I believe absolutely counts in a game... the graphics and terrains are absolutely spectacular, I mean, just incredible for a console game. The gameplay and controls, along with the CONTROL and FEEL of the weapons is incredible also, again, absolutely unmatched on any game yet. The game is long, the story line is pretty good also.

But what makes this game only warrant 3 stars?? Its boringness, yes, I said it, halo gets boring as hell. There is an absolute complete lack of variety in people you fight, for instance, the covenent have a whopping like 5 different types of aliens, you will spend literally about 98% of the time only killing 2 of those kinds, again, literally... it gets old, very old, very, very old. Then you fight the "flood", which are about the same thing, you get literally hoards of them, one after the other, but its all the same alien, just like the covenent, no change in colors, looks, nothing, same thing. Boring, fast.

Then, the maps, as good looking as they are, it just gets very old running through drawn out buildings, room after the EXACT SAME room shooting the SAME aliens one after the other, I mean, with all the time put into this, it could have been a bit more interesting, a little scene here and there when you meet someone or whatever, maybe fly a plane or something just doesn't cut it, shooting the same aliens over and over just gets stupid.

When you replay the game, thank god the developers allowed you to skip right to your favorite levels, because most of them get realy old quickly. This is a plus, and the multiplayer is pretty good too.

In conclusion, the gameplay is the best, EVER, the game is actually worth owning, because after getting sick of the ... gameplay on other games, you run back to halo to cleanse your system. I have yet to find another game so refined as halo, there are no complaints about gameplay, or graphics, or options, just tediousness. Lots of the same thing.

Game of the Year!

Halo will undoubtedly get the coveted Game of the Year. This game will be to the Xbox what Goldeneye was to the N64. It is without a doubt the best console FPS shooter ever.

To start off, the gameplay is incredible. The controls feel natural, and are easy to get accustomed to for first time users. In part due to the great controller.

The graphics on this game are stunning. Everything in this game boasts incredible amounts of detail, and this is onl a 1st gen Xbox game!

I could write pages on how great this game is but I have decided to keep it brief. Even if you were to base an Xbox purchase solely on this game it would be well worth your while. It's that good, and WILL undoubtedly get Game of the Year.

One hundred and ten percent.

This game is the latest in a series of universe-changing (and unbelievably addictive) first person shooters.

First, there was Wolfenstein. (I barely slept for weeks.)

Then DooM and DooM II blew Wolfenstein completely out of the water.

Then Quake made you permanently renounce your allegiance to DooM.

Then Half-Life made you say: "DooM...? DooM who?".

And Halo will make you permanently forget all of those.
