First off, combat has actually evolved several times in video gaming history. The most notable ones being Doom I, Quake III, and now Halo. Bungie, the makers of the old-time classic Marathon and Myth series, have once again scored a hit, a one million-sold-copies game. I'll say it right now: not many games have sold more then one million copies before.
Pros:
1. EPIC storyline ...
2. Excellent balance of gameplay
3. A variety of weapons to choose from (not very many yet useful in each of their own ways)
4. Extreme textures (I've never seen metal look so...well, real)
5. Extreme graphics
6. Co-op
7. Edit your own multiplayer gametypes (I LOVE this)
8. Outstanding Physics engine (The infamous Warthog jump...)
9. Playing as a Titanium-A Armor-clad super warrior ('nuff said)
Cons:
1. 30 fps (60 is Xbox norm)
2. No built-in modding (of course this applies to every console game...)
3. The Banshees (Covenant ship) die too darn fast!
4. None of the marines survived :( Oops! spoiler! :)
cancel the last two cons, those were just for....nothing.
so the final score is 9-2 Pros win.
Although rated M, Halo (were it a Movie)(which might happen soon ;) would probably have been rated PG-13, so those of you concerned parents out there who are worried about corrupting your child, turning them into mindless flood who attack anything with a biomass of greater then one cell, you have nothing to fear.
Halo is the best FPS on any consol. Period.

The game Halo in my opinion was and still is the best game ever created for a game system. It's filled with tons of killer fps (frist-person-shooter) action and is nicely complemented by and amazing story-line. You take control as a character only known as the master cheif, a genetically enhanced cyborg with a virtually indestructable suit of armor. (for more information on the master chief i would recomend reading Halo: The Fall of Reach by Eric S. Nylund. It's a great book filled action and sci fi themes that could put any other sci fi writer to shame. Eric Nylund did a great job on this book and I would recommend buying it also. 5 stars as well!...) As the master chief you can choose between an arsenal of 7 human weapons including a rocket launcher, assault rifle, and shot gun, or 5 alien weapons including a plasma rifle and a gun that shoots explosive needles. Both races also sport grenades. Besides the weopons there are also a variety of vehicles you can use in the game such as a human all-terrain vehicle sporting a 50mm chain-gun or a human tank with a 90mm barral and a 7.62mm armor peircing machine gun. The aliens in this game known as the Covenant also have some intersting transportaion including a one person reconnaissance vehicle that sports 2 plasma connons and a ground assault aircraft that has 2 fuel rod cannons as well as 2 plasma cannons. Besides these vihicles there are many other that you will see but not be able to operate. (Find out about them in the book or in the game what ever u like.) As u play an incredible story unfolds that will be unforgetable, and it even has an unexpected plot twist at the end. But,even with all that I think the best part of the game is the multi-player mode which allows for cooperative play or just playing against friends. But its not just fragging, o no its much more than who can kill who more times, u can play in variety of modes such as king of the hill or capture the flag or a game where u have to have possecion of a ball for a certain amount of time. All are fun and even just that regular fragging style is fun too. In conclusion all i can say is buy this game and buy the book too because they will keep you entertained for a long long time(I've been playing since February) So in conclusion all I can say is you won't regret buying this game and I would suggest playing the game before reading the book, it's better and easier to understand that way.
P.S. if u like the feel and sheer size of computer games better than system games than dont feel sad. Halo is coming out for the pc also. So have fun gamers and buy this game!...
This game is insane.

Just got my xbox and im at work writing this review, got to play Halo for about 5 hrs staright and im hooked! This game is insane, I am a big fan of FPP type games and this one has to be the best by far I have ever played ...... and im an old skool wolfenstein player. The Control is tight, the story in my opinion is a little lacking, but then again I am a hard sell when it comes to game dialouge, The graphics ...... WOW .... beautiful, grab the marine rifle go indoors, go into a dark cooridor and proceed to shoot the walls and the celing, you will then get the idea of the power behind this machine. Take it from a hard core gamer, BUY AN XBOX. PERIOD. and for anyone who wants to say that the games on xbox "doesnt look that impressive" i say this, they obviously havent played it and if they have they must be blind or stupid. This game looks like a 4rd or 5th generation playstation2 game while poor old playstation is still trying to put out quality 2nd generation games right now, remember when playstation1 first came out way back when .... remember what the games looked like? (1st generation) Now do you remember what their games looked like almost 24 months later? (4th generation) thats what the difference looks like between ps2 and xbox. Im not bashing but when the developers start learning how to properly utilize the power of ps2 to where it will START to look like a 1st gen xbox game, the xbox will be on its 3rd or 4 gen games, ps2 will eventually reach its limit, and xbox will just get better. People if you are smart you will buy an XBOX a.s.a.p. it is more than worth the investment.
p.s. I am the VERY prod owner of a ps2, Im not being a hater, i just know what is a better game and a better system.
Very Good Game

First of all, let's start with the game's hype. I agree that this game is a little overhyped, but all those haters who say this is the worst game ever have either:
a) Never played it before
b) Just like dissing Microsoft
c) Jealous because their friends have X-Box and they don't
d) Try to be individual by writing a non-mainstream review
Now let's look at the actual gameplay through the pros and cons:
Pros:
-Pretty good graphics
-Excellent physics
-Perfect storyline for sci-fi lovers
-You can really appreciate the effort by Bungie
-4 player multiplayer is really fun
-One of my favorite game musical scores
-Long levels
-Great weapon/vehicle quality
-Cooperative Campaign
-4 Difficulty levels
Cons:
-Has quite a few glitches
-Despite long levels, there are only 10
-Multiplayer has no music
-Small selection of weapons/Vehicles
Overall, I think this is a great game that is very fun and entertaining. I cannot wait for the sequel coming out in November 9th. I reccommend this game to all players except for those under thirteen, and are offended by popular games. So all of you kids who write a review for this game, go outside and play or something while you're still young.
Remember that scene from the movie Aliens....?

Got a chance to demo this game at Xbox Odyssey in SF, and I must say I was pretty impressed w/ the gameplay. The graphics are on par w/ what you would see on PS2, e.g. Red Faction. But the multi-player team mode is a little more engrossing than the solo missions in RF. During the game there are always a few other troopers who are fighting the enemy and you'll hear radio chatter, which make you feel like you are part of an assault team. The game had the usual number of weapons capable of inflicting varying amounts of damage. The controls for changing weapons, reloading, jumping/squatting, etc. were pretty standard. In my limited playing time, I didn't notice any puzzles that needed to be solved to complete a level, but that didn't bother me much since puzzles tend to slow down the action anyways. Overall, I think Xbox has a winner here. After a long day's work, there's nothing like coming home and emptying an entire magazine of bullets on an alien and watching it go down in a cry of pain!

Yeah, its that good. Ive heard a lot of good things about this game. I didnt think it could stand up to the hype. Nothing has impressed me since Half Life. Except Counter Strike, of course. But this game had my jaw on the floor. I rented it first just to make sure. I can't use my Hollywood Video card for a while because of all the late charges. The first day a friend and I played Co-op just after finals. After the first level, we closed the curtains, scooted the couch within inches of the TV and turned off our cell phones. We would have done it sooner, but we were too into the game. The controls aren't as intuitive as the old standby mouse and keyboard, but they work. The storyline, enemy AI, graphics... its all here. I love the fact that you can use the enemy's weapons. Some complain that you can only carry two weapons at once. I think its more realistic that way. There's a reason this game is the #1 seller on Xbox... Yes, its that good. It won't dissappoint. When does Halo 2 come out?????
A Perfect Game

This game deserved it's 'Game of the Year' award. It is by far one of the coolest first person shooters out there. This game is totally immersive, and it truely feels like you are in the alien world admist a huge battle. It has great weapons, awesome AI, and near perfect level design. It looks great (it's on the XBox after all!), and how can it not? It's just the little touches that make me smile, such as the sun peaking through leaves of the trees....I love that stuff. It looks good, it plays good...and it sounds good.
On top of all that, it has a great multiplayer mode. At my work, we had a 16 player link set up (that's four xbox's, four copies of halo, a local LAN connection, 16 controllers, and of course 16 people)...and let me say, it rocked! People were rollin' on the floor laughing....it was great fun! If you have an XBox, you MUST own this game.... 'nuff said!

I bought this game over four years ago and just have to say I must of replayed this game at least a dozen times (Start-Finish). This game was one of the major reasons I bought an Xbox then an Xbox 360. If you like to play shooters this game is for you.
The graphics even by today's standards are very good. The campaign is best thought out story I have ever seen even better than movies. The only thing this game lacks is online play but this game was released just before Xbox Live came out. If you want to play online get the PC version or buy Halo 2. Once you beat this game get Halo 2 it was also an extremely good game. Halo 3 will be on sale for the Xbox 360 in a year hopefully less.
Best Shooter Ever?

What's left to say about Halo: Combat Evolved? I mean, I believe every Xbox owner has played this game atleast once, and a big part of them love the game. I bought my own Xbox some weeks ago and I couldn't wait to play this game Halo of which everyone was talking about so much for years... My expectations were at the top, and the game had to be a real masterpiece to fill my expectations. And, oh boy, it did.
Analizing the game, you see that, graphically, this game is a beauty. Perhaps not the best Xbox can give you (this game runs at 30fps instead of 60fps), but you'll be impressed. The soundtrack is a great thing, it totally fits every situation (the main menu song is amazing... I'm seriously thinking about buying Halo Soundtrack), and the voice acting is top quality too. The controls are perfect, I wasn't confused by them, not even once... It feels awesome, and you can choose what kind of controls you prefer. Well, that's about it, technically.
If somebody told you Halo is worth picking an Xbox for alone, don't think this someone is crazy. If you like action/sci-fi games, Halo will be an unforgetable and eternal experience for you in gaming world. Even if you don't, you should atleast rent it. Not a single Xbox owner should leave the plataform before playing Halo. It's like having a Nintendo64 and not playing The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time, do you feel me? If you don't own this game and you own a Xbox, I wouldn't think twice before buying it. How can a game survive with lots of hype since 2001, when it was realeased, and it was hyped even before... There's not a second option, dear gamer... The only option is: this game kicks a**. And I really hope Bungie won't let us down... But it won't be a easy task for Halo 2 to be better than this first game.
A beautiful and amazing experience, Halo is a must-buy game for anyone who owns an Xbox. That's it, don't waste your time reading even more reviews. Just order your copy, and you'll also write a 5-star review when you play it.
