Quite Possibly the Most Over-Rated Game of All Time

After reading the other reviews, you may be wondering about the two-star rating. Yes, this game is beautiful to look at. The attention to detail is astounding. It's really to bad that the development team didn't put as much effort into things like gameplay or characters, or one of the other things that truly make a game great.

From start to finish, this game re-defines the term "cookie cutter". You walk along a pre-determined and shoot everything that moves. It requires no skill whatsoever. A two-year old could beat this game on "Legendary", it's hardest difficulty. That said, mowing down wave after wave of alien bad guys does offer some mindless entertainment.

As if the gameplay wasn't bad enough, the developers felt the need to add what can only be described as the worst cast of characters since the dawn of man. You have:

- Master Chief (you): Honestly, they couldn't give the guy a name? For those of you who don't know, Master Chief is short for Master Chief Petty Office, a high Non-Com rank in the Navy. You have about five lines of dilouge in the game, all of it spoken in a voice that makes you sound more like a neanderthal than a super-soldier.

- Cortana: A highly sophisticated Artificial Intelligence. She's integrated into your armour's systems, but serves no useful purpose. Throughout the game, she offers up a few vague hints as to what your objectives are, none of which are very helpful. You would think that she could at least give you a map, huh?

- Captain Keyes: Not much to say really. He's a fairly stereotypical military officer. Goes down with ship, and all that. You get to rip his brains out later in the game.

- 343 Guilty Spark: And finally, the one character that I actually like. He's evil, mischievous little floating robot who has more to his agenda than meets the eye.

All in all, this game was mediocre. Nothing about it to truly seperate it from the pack. If you see it in your local store's bargain bin, I heartily recoment picking it up. It'll give you a few hours of brain-rotting amusement. Othewise don'r bother. If you want a truly amazing game, I recommend picking up a copy of System Shock 2, Deus Ex, or even Half-Life.

I'm sorry...i just didnt think this game was that great out of what i played of it.Poor graphics and very reppetitive.May appeal to some gamers...just not me.Im not trying to tell you to buy it or not.Im just saying my opinion

halo is an awsome 1st person shooter

THis is one of the best first person shooter games i have ever played, and i have played a lot of them buy this game if you love first person shooter games.

I used to like this game alot. Now that I don't like it anymore, I find it quite unusual how people worship it. There was alot of hype over this game when it came out, and it's probably the only reason why Xbox sales were doing so well back then. I've pretty much gone back to playing PC games and my Xbox has been collecting alot of dust lately. Actually, the reason why I hate this game now is because of my friends. They used to make fun of Halo, then somehow, the demonic entity known as Halo took over their minds, their bodies, and their souls. We played everyday. They took it way too seriously and I can't stand playing Halo with them anymore. I began to notice some bad things about Halo:

-Everything about the game is way too childish. You play an invincible godlike character who just can't die thanks to his recharging shield and the powerups laying all over the place. The aliens are wimpy and cheesy. Plus there's an alien race that rips off John Carpentar's The Thing!!!!!!!

-Most of the game levels look the same! There were some variety, but not enough.
-Weapon names are too obvious. Quotes from people playing: "Oh, I'm really good with the SNIPER RIFLE!" "SHOTGUNS are good when you want to fight somebody up close!" "You use the PISTOL way too much!"
-Vehicles were invincible. At least, the warthog and the tank was. How come most of the alien vehicles could be destroyed?

There's alot of other things I could say about Halo. I believe there was too much hype when the game was just like any other first person shooter. What really destroyed Halo was when it was released for Xbox instead of for PC like it was intended too so it could boost Xbox sales. The game probably never even reached it's full potential thanks to the Xbox. The game doesn't even looked finished.
The plot has way too much hope in it. Even though the human race is being annihilated by an alien race known as the Covenant, everything is hopeful because of the god you play as. At least with Half-Life, there was almost no hope because there was aliens as well as soldiers trying to kill you.
Halo could have been a great game, but Xbox ruined it. PC version is not any better either.

I played this game for an hour 2 days ago, and i still don't know what the hell happened... Space ranger? Why does he keep walking around in circles? How did he get there? This game doesn't make any sense, and is not worth the plastic on the wrapper.

hmm i waited a couple of years after this was released to pick it up on pc, and i was not impressed. it was just another shooter. doom3 also seemed like...just another shooter. i was extremely impressed with half-life 2 however, but i really can't say what all the fuss was about with halo. i actually never finished it, despite being pretty far along in the game...i just got too bored with it.

With all the hype about this game, I thought it would be the game of the century. But I was wrong. The storyline is good, but a little to heroic. The Aliens are so dumb. After the first few levels (which take a while) you get new guns, but not until then. The vehicles controls stink worse then my socks. This game is a rent first game.

Half-Life & RedFaction is 1,000,000 times better than Halo in every way. The reason why all these people are saying good things about is that microsoft payed them off.

This ame is terrible just terrible..it's just an average shooting game but only it has the WORST controls [it takes a joystick and a button to climb a ladder]..and the graphics are bad...it's just plain bad
