Slow, enjoying, yet still somehow dull

The game is beautiful. This is easy to see from the opening scenes, and the first steps of gameplay. However, the movements become slow, and the puzzles pointlessly boring. And though the game claims to be an adventure game, it still lacks ANY action at all. What happened? Didn't someone working on the project, stop and say "This game may play in 8-10 hours, but it feels like an eternity".
This game would best be displayed as art, on a wall monitor in a millionaire's home. The graphics were nothing short of beautiful, but the gameplay, and focus both took the backseat. Find something else to play.

full of surprising experience,
though it's 2D,
but better than most of the 3D games.

Just finished this game. It took me a couple of weeks of everyday playing to finish it. Once I figured out most of the solutions to the hard puzzles were in the same area, it helped to solve the tougher ones, other times I had to use the book to figure them out and would not have been able to find the solutions without the guide. The storyline was very good and I loved the ending. The music and settings were beautiful. It was definitely entertaining. Very enjoyable to play. Hints: I missed the book in the library about mushrooms so I couldn't pick up the elixir. Preparing the drink at the bar was impossible without the solution.
Needed more wind-up men, puzzles

This is a good story with great locations and atmosphere. This game had huge potential. A world of gloomy clockwork inventions is perfect for an engrossing, item collecting, puzzle solver. Unfortunately, they left out the puzzles.
The sounds and music were well done. Not LucasArts, but good.
Woody Allen writes dialog well. Video game makers don't. The dialog here is not entirely painful. They are smart enough to keep it brief and to the point.
The cut scenes are expertly done. The openening really is TOO good.
They had a good thing here, they just didn't take it far enough.

All I can say is that this WONDERFUL game plays out like a movie or book, you get really involved in the story, the graphics are wonderful! This was my first adventure game, and I have found no others since that I enjoyed as much as Syberia and Syberia II. The puzzles are tricky enough, but not so difficult that you end up getting frustrated and quitting - Also, the puzzles are pretty logical, as opposed to puzzles in Myst where sometimes you never can figure out the logic. Please try this game, you won't be disappointed!
One of the very best adventure games I ever played!

Excellent game in every way. The graphics are breathtaking, the storyline is interesting, it keeps you wanting more and more of it. The ending definitely suggests a sequel! I can only wait with baited breath. I love this game and would recommend it highly to any adventure game lover.
Loved the game most of the time

I read some of the reviews below and agree with most of the positives and some of the negatives. The graphics were beautiful, and I did not have any glitches like some other people have described, although the game did crash frequently. I had to save constantly because of that little bug. The story was fun. I especially loved the automatons. They were very cool, and the graphics showing how they worked were fantastic. I was disappointed in the end. You never actually get to Syberia, this place you are trying to reach the entire game. I'm hoping that means a sequel. If you are expecting an open ended game, this is not for you. The game is basically linear and is more like watching an interactive movie than playing a game. The "B" plot that takes place by cell phone was interesting, but not very believable for what was supposed to be character development. I'm hoping for a sequel where you can actually visit Syberia!

After hours of First Person Shooters, stressful rounds of SimCity4, and a little bit of Uplink, I think that Syberia was a wonderful getaway. It didn't require too much thinking, just a simple puzzle game. I absolutely enjoyed the characters and their voices. It's really quite funny at times, which I really enjoyed.
I've never played an adventure game besides this a ten minutes of Longest Journey (on a friend's computer) but the graphics are really nice, realistic. Kate's movements are a bit slow but I think it's a nice detail that she'll look up to a ladder as she's approaching it, not only when she's at the foot of it.
Like I said, the gameplay is easy, like an interactive storybook, a brilliant one at that. I like how the story is told, and that is important.
I recommend it, although it ends abruptly and ready for a sequel. Buy it new, or buy it used, it doesn't matter, just play it.
Syberia is a Great Adventure Game

The story and graphics are amazing in the point & click adventure. You will fall in love with the French village that Kate Walker has found herself in.
