Great Game

I loved this game. It had interesting characters and a great story line. Plus, some great puzzles.

But.....

I don't like the way it ended. To me, is was like the creators just were sick of making it and ended it in the fastest way possible. I wish it would have been a longer game.

A major disappointment

The Broken Sword series marked my entry into the adventure game genre, for as a mostly console gamer, I ignored a large number of classic PC titles. Those games, and The Longest Journey got me hooked, and so I thought I'd check out Syberia which seemed to offer much of the same formula.

But that common formula of obscure puzzles and pre-rendered backgrounds was about all that Syberia had shared with those classics. The game's plot - which in all adventure games is the make-or-break factor - is completely underwhelming. Perhaps it is unfair to compare Syberia to Broken Sword or TLJ instead of evaluating it independently, but there is really very little substance to this game no matter how you look at it.

In fact, it is only by virtue of a storyline that adventure games' often frustrating mechanics and obscure puzzle solutions are even tolerable. Without a story, an adventure game - much like Syberia - is quite unfulfilling.

It was fun

This was a fun game, but I found it a little short. The graphics are beautiful and the game is pretty easy play. None of the puzzles are arcane and with a little persistence can be solved.

There are a few annoying parts of the game, you can't move very fast (even when Kate is "running") and you have to go back an forth through several screens which can be annoying. Also most of the time ring of light cursor works, but once in awhile you need to go to the next screen but the cursor doesn't light up and tell you you can, you have to just try it. I found that to be most annoying.

Syberia is one of the best games I have ever played. I have re-played it atleast a dozen times because I loved it so much.

The basic story, you are Kate Walker a shy lawyer from New York, whom seems to have a habit of letting EVERYONE walk all over her.

You are sent to Valadilene (Val uh dee lin) in the French Alps, to oversee a take-over of the once popular Voralberg Toy Company. You are greeted with an unexpected twist, the owner, Anna Voralberg has died and seemingly with no heir.

You learn, however that there IS an heir, Hans Voralberg, Anna's younger brother. He left Valadilene a long time ago, to study mammoths. It is up to Kate to find him, so he can sign the paperwork that will give his consent for the factory to be sold.

Over the course of the Journey, Kate finds herself. She learns who she wants in her life, and who she needs to kick out of it.

This game is absolutly wonderful! If you have seen screenshots and you think the graphics are gorgeous, wait until you see the ACTUAL game in play, the graphics are ten times better.

One of the greatest things about this game, besides the graphics, plot, voice acting and creativity, is the character development. I am a writer, and I am in the opinion that if you want an audience to sympathize with the main character, he/she has to develop and grow like a human being. Well this game did that, you watch Kate develop and grow as her Journey continues, up until a climax that will leave you wanting a sequel.

I have always been a fan of Dreamcather Interactive's games...but they out-did themselves on this one.

I really hope that you will buy and enjoy this game as much as I did.

The best of the best

There is no question as to why this game won the "Adventure Game of the Year" award, among many others. The cut-scenes were breathtaking, the musical scores excellent, and the graphics just beautiful.I've played,I believe, almost every adventure game out there, including old and hard to find ones. This blows them all away.Kate Walker,a career oriented lawyer, must track down Hans Voralberg, the only living heir to the Voralberg Toy co.The whole game is based on her journey into four territoties of France,Germany and Russia, and eventually towards Syberia.Hans is an elusive man throughout the game. Her discoveries of an automaton creation, created by the mentally slow but brilliant Hans Voralberg,is an amazing adventure within itself. The shadows, sights, sounds, just everything about this game peirces the mind and soul. There were times,I was moved to tears...and times of rewarding triumph.Syberia isn't just a game,it's an experience. An experience, that I'll not soon forget....

A decent, fun adventure.

Five stars to encourage more games like this,The Longest Journey and a lot of the old, great, classic adventure games(Nancy Drew series included-not just for kids).

Awesome!

I loved this game. It worked! No glitches, no bugs, no patches...it worked great. It was beautiful. The cut scenes added to the game instead of feeling like filler. The puzzles were challenging enough to make it a fun game, but not so challenging that it felt like painful work to solve them. I was especially pleased with the length of this game. It was three times longer than I expected. Every time that I thought it was the end, there was a new place to explore. I was surprised by how fun this game was to play. I recommend it to anyone who likes adventure/puzzle games. I'm now looking forward to playing the sequel. Hurray for another female lead character!

Disappointed

This game should not be in the Adventure category. It is a puzzle solving game with good to excellent graphics. There is no player involvement other than "point and click". There is no suspense. The game is more suited to children in the 10 to 13 age group than to the 13 to adult group. "Shooters" are not my thing but this game is simply boring. I gave it 2 stars only on the merits of the graphics.

Many technical problems

I have not been able to play most of the game due to tech problems--Have not been able to save games so have always had to restart game. If problems could be worked out it looks like a fairly good game.

Adventure lives on

Sequels rarely live up to the original but Syberia 2 proves them wrong. The journey onwards proves to be as intrigueing and as involving as the premiere. No need to have participated in the first installment....Syberia 2 is a whole adventure onto itself. Go for it!
