"Triple Threat"

Being a hardcore Sonic fan, this game really impresses me. Sonic Heroes is a new type of action, designed to bring back Sonic's 2D days and blow them up into AWESOME 3D. They very much accomplished that. The levels are MUCH longer than Sonic Adventure (2) levels, and the graphics are much nicer. Most of the bugs from the SA series have been iron out such as collision, crappy camera (WOO HOO) and cheesy CG movies. However, the frame rate in most of the game is 60fps. However, it's not constant. In some places, for example Team Dark Stage 14 slows down just slightly were there is the second group of enemies. The special stage drops down to 30fps if you are blown up or there are many spheres on screen. Last Boss SPOILER!!: If those tree things are all in one spot and you walk by them, the 60 goes down to about 40fps so watch out for that.

In This adventure, you control three characters at once, and you must maneuver your way through an entire 14 long stages. You won't be able to get through them, however, without the help of your teammates. You need fly formation to fly up to hard to reach areas; power formation to break through walls and kill enemies ; speed formation....well to do the rest. Oh and run fast! The stages range from seaside resorts, to cities, to an entire fleet!

The stages, as mentioned, are larger this time around. Some may take you up to 7 minutes to complete. (which is a change from the previous games!) There are also difficult enemies which most aren't destroyed with just one blow anymore. Most take around 5 or 10. Power formation is best for them. Now here's what I rate the game:

Graphics-- 5/5 MUCH improved from the SA graphics. Everyone's sprites are much sharper, and the stages are much more detailed.

Controls-- 5/5 Better than before, with more use of the buttons this time. But at the same time simple and easy to remember.

Team Play-- 4/5 Sometimes gets on your nerves, but otherwise a great idea.

Story-- 3/5 Definitely not as good as SA2's story. I guess it's like this: SH was designed for game play and advancement, SA was designed for story.

Music-- 4/5 Rock. A lot of that type of music, which makes the game just right.

FIXED CAMERA-- 6/5!! Finally! The crappy cam was trashed and Sonic Heroes uses a different camera system, THANK GOD!

Multi-player--3/5 Still not much detail there. Race mode is in 40 fps, which can sometimes be annoying.

Futuristic look-- 5/5 This game really looks like it was modeled in 2100! It's really futuristic looking.

So the overall on this game is this: If you are looking for a sweet action game to buy, Sonic Heroes is a definite choice.

Same awesome Sonic-style, with new awesome team-play twist!!

Sonic Heroes is an Action/Adventure game where players control a team of characters throughout different stages, while battling enemies and making their way to occasional bosses. Each stage takes on a very fast-paced nature as you speed your way through loops, turns, bounce off certain obstacles in a pinball effect, spin around poles and through tunnels, launch yourself from cannons, and more. The basic game is much like previous Sonic games such as Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Sonic DX from the GameCube. The main objective stays the same; you try to get to the goal ring at the end of the stages, beat the bosses, and make your way through yet another stage until completing the story and game.

One major exciting new feature in Sonic Heroes is the team game-play style. Instead of controlling one character at a time, players control a team of three characters at once throughout each individual stage in the game. Each character on the team has their own special moves and abilities to help their team get further throughout the game. Every team has one character from each formation; speed, power and flight. Speed characters are used mainly for running, though they have their special abilities and attacks that make them useful and quite needed at other times, too. The power characters are mainly used for fighting enemies, they have the greatest attacks and deal the most amounts of damage. However, they as well have their own special abilities that make them useful at other times in the game too. Finally, the flight characters are usually used for flying to get to other, normally unreachable areas. Aside from the ability to fly, though, the flight characters have their own special moves and abilities just like the other characters on their team.

At any time during game-play, the team leader can be switched to that of another formation when needed. Though a major part of the game, it is quite easy to get used to and the controls aren't really a problem after playing for a little while. There's even a tutorial mode, which should help with game difficulty if it gets too tough at times, or you're having trouble learning it when you first start out (which shouldn't really be a problem anyway).

Any team is choose-able from the start, and each have their own separate Story Mode. The stages per team are fairly the same, but the difficulty is set differently according to which team you choose. The easiest team is Team Rose, and recommended for beginners. At the start of their story you'll be taken through tutorial mode automatically, to learn the game controls and simple basics before starting. Their stages are the shortest and have the least amount of enemies. Team Sonic has a more medium difficulty, with medium-sized stages and a moderate amount of enemies throughout those stages. The hardest team is Team Dark, focused more towards experts. Their stages are the longest of the game and full of much more enemies, and the enemies themselves are slightly stronger too. The fourth and last team is Team Chaotix. This team is meant for more a change in game-play. Instead of the objective of making your way to the goal ring at the end of each stage, you'll be given a special mission to take on and try and complete. Most of these missions are something along the lines of collecting a certain amount of a certain item, which you'll have to find scattered about throughout the stages.

Some other small additions and differences aside from the new team element, include a small level-up feature that's limited to three levels and resets at the end of each stage, stronger enemies that now use an HP system, more items, longer and more detailed stages, different types of bosses, and obviously other new details such as obstacles along with the story being different, and set through new stages. Instead of the old "search for the Chaos Emerald" stages, keys found throughout regular stages in Story Mode lead to special bonus stages where Chaos Emeralds can be collected. By racing through these bonus stages, collecting spheres to boost in speed, and avoiding spikes and bombs that slow you down, you'll be able to try and catch the Chaos Emeralds. There is no Chao Garden in Sonic Heroes, but it does include a nice variety of multi-player modes, the only flaw being the slight glitches and slow speed in Action Race Mode. Replay value is taken care of with a stage selection screen as usual, along with cool unlock-ables and extra objectives and missions to take on after beating the original story with each team.

Over all, Sonic Heroes is a combination of the previous Sonic games in that it's still very fast-paced, the objective is mainly the same, and the style and set-up is still that of before, along with the same familiar characters and look and feel to the game. Many new additions have been added, however. New upgrades, sharper and more colorful graphics, new stages and bosses, and the twist of team game-play together create a great new Sonic game for fans and non-fans alike!

Sonic, Tails and Knuckles on Another Cool adventure

Hey your dude Kai here and Sonic, Tails and Knuckles are back.(By the way i'm 13 had to use the other review) anyway the Eggster is back and at it again and he has a new machine (metal sonic, just has a few upgrades) and he announces that it will take over the world in 3 days. sonic with a grin on his face speeds off in the distance, tails and knuckles follows. this game as five teams, sonic team, dark team, amy team, chaotix team and super team and if your wondering i did beat the game. each character has different attacks Tails is thunder shoot, Knuckles uses his fists and can jump in the air and shoot Tails and Sonic at enemies as fireballs. There is also a special attack you can use when the team gauge is full. Hint: you can use it again when the gauge still says team blast, all you have to do is go to sonic jump in the air and press b. So overall this is a cool game, and i rate it a five. So buy the game, have fun and have a great time ( it is a good game to let your anger out if your mad, lol). I was amazed at first but the game is not a bad idea i mean the storys not too bad and the gameplay is very fast-paced.I was happy to see that the old collect enough spheres to get the chaos emerald was brought back from sonic the hedge hog 2 for the sega genisis.This game isnt for everyone but for you sonic adventure fans you might like this one.

It's got SPEED!!!

Ok, both of the Sonic Adventures were good, not great games. Reason being is because the speed levels for Sonic/Shadow were the best to play. Looking for emeralds and shooting things were not objectives intended for a Sonic game. When I read the review saying that Sonic is back to its old roots again, I was anxious to pick up SONIC HEROES. The verdict....the speed is sickeningly delightful.

Sonic Team keeps the now-popular groupings of characters, but branches off to 4 individual teams (Team Sonic, Team Dark, Team Rose, and Team Choatix). Now Team Chaotix is a throwback to the Knuckles game on the short-lived 32X for Genesis (I know, what the heck am I talking about says the younger generation of gaming, but it's true). I guess Sonic Team figured why not knock the dust off these characters and re-vamp 'em. Each team travels through 7 massive zone (14 zones) of death-defying loops, lush colorful worlds and yes....all in quickness. Tricky areas are platform-jumping (especially over bottomless areas) and the camera's zoom-out on loop sections (if you're used to it).

My favorite levels are the Casino and Hang Castle levels. The Genesis days shine brightly through the bumper-bouncing mayhem and slot-machine madness. Hang Castle reminisces on the Death Egg stage in Sonic 3 with the flip-upside-down level feature.

My only grips is the MUSIC. Sometimes it's annoying, sometimes it's hard to hear. Again, what made Sonic a success back then was the soundtracks. I wish Sonic Team would focus more on the tunes the next go-around.

Go for the neck-break speed and SONIC HEROES will be a instant favorite!

I absolutely loved Sonic Heroes my first time through. I played as team dark first (Mainly because i think shadow is way cooler than sonic, and I love Rouge's attitude). Team Dark has the highest level of diffuculty. So it was kind of stupid playing as them first, because the other teams are pretty much the same levels, in the same order, just a whole lot easier (especially Team Rose...I hate Big).Anyways... what I'm trying to say is that i agree with the others in saying that it's replay value is really low (not including team chaotix). I love the team vs team battles though, especially when playing with a friend. I really loved the Team Dark VS. Team Caotix battle...You show them who's boss Rouge! =) The music is HIGHLY ADDICTIVE, especially "This Machine" (another reason Team Dark's my favorite). Anyways... If your a pretty big Sonic gamer, BUY IT. If not, or if you've never played it before, i still recommend you at least rent it.

While Sega has come out with many new games recently, you can buy this for around $20-$30. It's one of those "fun platformers to pick up when you're bored". I love this game because you can choose to be one of four teams, each with a strong member (very good combat skills), a fast member (for devastatingly super-quick combos), and a flight member (not very strong, but can fly). Each team also does have slightly different variations on each character, for example the purple hedgehog on tean Chaotix throws ninja-stars while the black hedgehog on team Dark does a charge-attack. Also, in story mode, each team has different ways of play while on the same levels. (Level 1 is the same whether you play as any different team, but the mission objectives may be different). Combat, however, is a little sketchy and repetitive because you fight the same enemies over and over again in almost the same situations. The lack of boss fights was also a loss. A good part of the game, though, is that the gameplay itself is seamless yet still action-filled. More experienced gamers might say "Wow, this game is so simple it's not even fun..." while developing gamers might say "Weee, I love this!". One thing to know, however, before you buy it is that most of the time when you die, you get sent back to way early in the level. This means that if a certain spot is hard, you might have to do the exact same thing over and over again just to finish the level. (ANNOYING). Don't buy this if you expect a complex game with deep gameplay and strategy, only buy it if you want a fun game to play once in a while and have a good time with some friends maybe.

A Perfect Masterpiece!

Perfect. This game has it all: amazing graphics, catchy music, cool attacks, etc. This game is so cool. The fact that it has 12 playable characters makes it even better. It's fun how you can control three characters at a time. Since the fact that the characters are divided into teams, that means that there will be a lot of communication between them. This is a huge upgrade from the previous games because there was barely any talking, except for the cutscenes. I admit that Charmy and Big the Cat's voices are a little annoying, but everyone else's voice is okay.

What I like most about the game is the music. The music on this game is tight. The best songs, in my opinion, on this game is the BGM of Seaside Gate and Grand Metropolis. In fact, I downloaded the music on my computer so I can listen to it while surfing the Internet.

Overall this is a great game. Any true Sonic fan should play it.

Another sonic blockbuster is headed our way!~

I am a hardcore sonic fan, and this game looks absolutely brilliant. I read the previews, and saw a couple of webshots. The graphics are beautiful. The gameplay looks spectacular, since now you go toguether in teams [Team sonic (Sonic, tails and knuckles) Team rose (Amy, cream and Big the cat) Team dark (Shadow, Rouge and some other guy) and team chaotix (I don't know any of those guys I just know one of them is a crocodile)]. It looks like we're having a new sonic blockbuster headed for us in January!

Sonic Team brings an innovative plan to the hedgehog council but doesn't quite see it through. Sonic games are all about speed, instinct, and reflex-you run around dizzying loops, hoping you're fast enough to press the jump button before you fall on a bed of spikes. Sonic Heroes had the potential to take that concept to the next level, but somewhere along the road to change, Sonic Team seems to have gotten spooked by the unknown. Sonic Heroes' brave new conceit is that you're in control of three different characters at the same time. A team (there are four to pick from) consists of a Speed, Power, and Fly character, each with a different set of moves and abilities, and knowing which character should take the lead at any given time is an integral part of the gameplay. Like most Sonic Team games, Heroes gets high marks for replayability as the four teams have different quests, even though the levels and powers are fundamentally the same. Where this system is most successful is in the combat. You quickly learn to identify which combination of attacks will fell your foe the fastest (Sonic's tornado to rip off a shield, Knuckles' Jump Slam to hit the guy while he's down), and switching between characters becomes a matter of instinct thanks to a simple-to-remember swapping system. While there aren't a lot of enemy types, the game has fun with grouping them, and they're always fun to destroy.Strangely enough, Heroes doesn't always seem to trust its own character-swapping gimmick. Most of the time, it's too obvious who's supposed to take the lead as signs are posted that tell you straight-up whether Speed, Power, of Fly should tackle the next situation-and many times, it turns out, it doesn't really matter. Too frequently, the game takes control for you to hurl you through a section, and you're left feeling like you're watching instead of really participating. This can be frustrating on the flipside, too, when you're sure the game is going to automatically land you safely on a narrow tightrope after a blind 200-foot fall...and it doesn't.
Though the Xbox version's visuals are a little sharper and the GameCube's controller is a little more suited for the action, the presentation is otherwise nearly identical-fast and colorful, but fairly simple with an overabundance of orbs and boxes, and an underusage of shadows and lighting. Sonic's trademark electric rock soundtrack is in full force (like it or not), and the repeated voice samples telling you what to do delight as frequently as they disgust. Sonic Heroes is a creative stab at reclaiming the essence of hog; if it only had a little more faith in its own clever idea, it probably would have broken the sound barrier.
