a lot of people complain about the 3D Sonic Games, but Sonic Team has listen(for the most part). The game is mostly based on pure speed gameplay, though it sorta chages depending on the team. The new three character system is a nice twist, though tough to master at first, and there is also a tutorial that no one seems to bother mentioning. Furthermore, the game also tries to go back to it's root with Chaos Emerald collecting which are required(as in the previous 2D Sonic Games) to see the final part of the game. In addition, each team is different with their own difficulty level and team chaotix is more adventuring platform. Also brought back are Rankings and Embelems. This all adds up to a nice game, but like every game even those that claim themselves as a masterpiece: IT HAS ITS FLAWS.
First off, while I said the three team method is cool and everything, it is also sometimes confusing and you can't switch in mid-air. This game can get hetic(especially with team Dark), and sometimes the camera can confuse(which has been a problem as well in previous 3D Sonics). Also while each team is different, it's really about length and Difficulty which varies from Team Rose (easy) to Team Dark (tough). Furthermore, Team Chaotix Mission's can be very long and Tedious. Also despite the easiest team being there, this isn't a piece of take, it can take a couple to dozens of tries for one level or boss, and that can happen for a number reasons (mentioned in this reviews.
However, this should not deter you from the game, it is a nice change of pace in gameplay and difficulty. The music and voices are great, though you can't switch to japanese and some of the english voices are annoying. Plus if you are stuck you're team mates might give you a clue of what to do.
Sonic Heroes is by no means a perfect game, but does a nice job of changing Sonic's direction over some critics. If you like the 3d Games I recommend this, if you don't then atleast give the final version a shot and see for yourself.
Good Game, But Has Some Major Flaws

To start off this review, I have to say that I was hooked on Sonic ever since I first laid my hands on a Sega Genesis. Of course, there were other games, but Sonic was undoubtedly the coolest. However, since our favorite blue hedgehog has made the transition from 2D to 3D, things have gone downhill a bit. To make a long story short, Dr. Eggman is trying to take over the world again, and it's up to Sonic and three other teams...of three...to defeat him. That's the plot in a nutshell. The game starts out being really fun, and then it gets bad. For starters, during some of the levels, the only reason I died was because of the intensely frustrating camera. Such is the case with a part where you're trying to get out of an energy storage tank with rising red hot lava, and you're trying to jump through the rings that propel you upwards. But the camera is so wacky that you can't even tell where you're jumping before the platform gives way underneath you. Sega, if you're planning on doing another Sonic game anytime in the future, please do something about that camera! And, also, while I'm at it, this game really could've done without the stupid dialogue from the characters ("Wow! My head's spinning!" "This upward path is perfect for flying!"). All in all, this game is good for a rental, but I wouldn't spend fifty bucks on it. Ciao.

Let me put it this way. How hardcore Sonic are you?
Only true sonic fans will love this one because there are some annoying factors about this game that will make you wanna toss this game in the trash. The voices for one, make me sick. They talk too much and never fail to give you hints and advice during the game when it seems painfully obvious and unwanting. I don't know what Sega was thinking, I just couldn't believe it. It's supposed to be challenging.
Another thing is how easy it is to die during the game. Don't get me wrong, I love a good challenge, but this is nuts. It's like you'll find youself plunging to your doom when you should've landed safely on a ledge or something. Nuff said.
Everything else basically balances itself out. The game-play is very cool and the graphics are absolutely beautiful. They shine in every direction and never cease to impress. And when it comes to the game being straight up Sonic style, it has so much speed it's amazing. You'll find that the 3D and Speed mix very well. I just love it!! And the music is awesome - very reminiscent of the Sega Genesis days!!
So like I said, how hardcore Sonic are you? I'm hardcore baby...and I love this game.

I am a huge fan of the 3-D sonics all of them have been great and this one is no exception. However it is a bit to easy. The game has an anoying feture to tell you how to solve all the puzzles. The story is difrent for each team but all of them are fighting eggman sonics arch foe. I personly think that playing as three charecters at once is is not good. they could have made the teams like the teams in sonic adventure 2.
Pros
shadows not dead!
rouge, big, and cream are in the game
Tails finaly sounds like a little kid
We know the charecters ages
New charcters
Cons
You have to unlock difrent multiplayer modes
To easy
Shadow lost his memory
you have to control three charecters
robots have life meaters so a basic robot takes three hits to defeat not one
No chao garden
cheats
In multiplayer mode when its loading the stage press and hold A-Y and your charecters will be meatl (some times it works sometime not)

sonic heroes is an awsome game. it has colorful levels filled with twists and turns. the music's awsome, exept for the haunted house's irritating tune. the graphics are amazing! so, basicly what you can do is pick four different teams, each with a speed charictar, a strong charictar, and a flying charictar. team rose is with big, amy and cream. it is also a beginners team, which shortens the levels for not experienced gamers. then there's team sonic with knucles, sonic and tails. which is for medium gamers. team dark is for experinced gamers, and team chaotix is a mystery solving one. the bosses are fantastic, with lots of livea and cool exploshins. and mini games are ok, butcould use a little work. get it if you're a sonic fan, or not. two thumbs up. the great thing about it is the humor. bye!!

Game basics:
This game is an improvement on the other two sonic games for the GC. Sonic Team just keeps getting better and better and better and... Everything is better except for the chao garden, which is sadly not in this game. You play as one team out of four. When you come across a certain obstacle, you must usually switch to the appropriate leader: speed, fly, or power. Each type of leader has different moves, speed, jump height, etc.. Much of the time, these obstacles will be easy to pass - just one action - but some will be a little more challenging. Also, each leader has slightly different attributes and actions. Each team traverses the same levels with different variations, but each of them are different and have different extra missions. The gameplay is laid-back most of the time, and the enemies are usually pretty simple to defeat. Sonic coasts around loop-the-loops and other crazy tracks often, without you controlling him, but these situations are infrequent enough that they don't get boring and tiresome. And by the way, for those who don't know, rings are what keep you alive. When you get hit, you lose them all. If you collect more, you have a shield again. When you get hit without rings, you die.
Gameplay:34/35
This game is so fun that it would be enjoyable playing on a completed file with no obvious reason. Let me start out by saying that switching characters is NOT annoying and inconvenient, like some people say. It is actually quite smooth and fun. It is annoying, however, when your teamate gets hurt and you have to wait until they're recovered before you can switch to having them as the leader. It's graphical advantages help doing pointless things, like grinding on rails, become much more fun than they were in the other games. Some of the other things like graphics, music, etc. help this, but it would still be great without those. One of the factors is that gaming is very smooth. The light dash is easy to use, and if you don't press B at the right time you still don't slow down almost to a stop as in SA2:B (Sonic adventure 2:Battle). I won't even mention the light dash in SADX. I've heard people complain about camera, but I don't see why. It would only be bad if you were going backwards through a level, and this never happens. Most of the enemies have three hits with speed or flying characters, but this isn't as annoying as most sonic veterans would think. That's what power formation is for! There's also a new feature that can serve as a solution to this problem. Powercores! If you collect the items found in some enemies and item boxes, you will level up your character. Powercores level up your character's attacks, for the most part. If you have two for sonic, for instance, he can destroy most enemies with one homing attack. Unfortunately, you lose all of your upgrades when you die. If you die later in the level, you will have to do the harder parts without the powercores you were intended to have at that point! Finally, Sonic doesn't need to jump into the air to destroy an enemy. Knuckles can just become the leader and take out most enemies in one punch. The only things that really makes me lose my temper are the EVIL special stages.
Team Sonic: These stages are fast, smooth, simple, and fun. There are occasional places where you just hold up to run and admire the (amazing) scenery - that's OK, because these spaces are balanced by frequent platforming and enemies. In my opinion, Sonic, obviously the speed character, is the best of his type (along with Shadow, who is identical). He can execute a tornado move that removes enemies' shields, and he can dash along trails of rings. Knuckles is the power character, and his punches are debatably the best. Tails, who we all love :D is the flying character! All flying characters are pretty much identical.
Team Dark: Their stages are pretty much the same as Team Sonic's. However, they have more enemies, most of which are pathetic little things that make little difference. But they do have a few more difficult moments. Shadow is Sonic's clone as far as controls go. E-123 Omega is a lot like Knuckles, but he is a little more hyper, so he falls off edges a lot. Rouge ... I already commented about the flying characters.
Team Rose: Easy stages - easy, easy, easy. All the characters are slow. Their stages are about three minutes apiece. There are very few enemies. Very simple. Amy is slow, but she has some fun moves, including one where she uses her hammer to float in the air. Big is a lumbering thing, slow and annoying. Instead of punching, he throws the other characters. Cream is the third character.
Team Chaotix: Their stages have very random goals, like gathering rings or finding "hidden" objects. Some of them are fun, like one mission where you need to extinguish hidden torches. Espio the Chameleon, the speed character, can turn invisible. His shield-removing teqnique is a very good tool for killing him off. Vector throws his teamates like Big, but he is faster and his upgrades are better. Charmy the bee is the flying character; that's all you need to know.
Replay value/length:29/30
As I mentioned above, it would be fun without actually replaying it; just playing a completed game. It should last you a while, though. Unfortunatly, Each team has the same stages; just different paths, enemies, and traps. The goals, in order of sequence, start with beating each team's story, getting the chaos emeralds, beating the last story, getting all the "A" ranks, and then beating the extra mode that will bug you until you find out what it is. The replay value is high because of the gameplay and that there are no big secrets to give away.
Plot:6/10
The plot sounds pretty lame at first, but at least it makes sense in the end if you think about it.
Team Rose's story begins with Amy, Big, and Cream looking at a newspaper that had a (black and white) picture of "sonic" stealing Big's friend "Froggy" and Cheese's brother, Chocola chao. Those of you who played SA2:B have heard this kind of thing before.
The Chaotix detective agency (Espio the chameleon, Charmy the bee, and Vector the crocodile) finaly gets work in the form of a walkie-talkie thing that comes in the mail. Strange.
The Dark team's members meet each other when Rouge invades Eggman's base, accidentaly awakening her future team members: Omega and Shadow, who "died" again (if you watch sonic X you'd know what I mean).
Team Sonic's story starts with a message from Eggman that states he will have the ultimate weapon ready in three days. Smart, Egg belly. Actually, he does need them for something. What? Meesa no tell you! You SHOULD figure out the reason at the end of the Egg Albatross.
Graphics:17/15
THIS GAME HAS THE BEST GRAPHICS OF ANY GAME IV'E SEEN BEFORE!!!That is to say it's good, you understand. Special effects (what else am I supposed to call them?) surround characters when they do anything but the most basic actions. Unlike SA2:B, there are actually stages that have nice backgrounds. All the levels (except one) have great scenery. Instead of walls, now, there are pits. (But HEY! at least you get to see cool scenery when you die!) For instance, in Grand Metropolis, there is a futuristic city down millions of feet. Or in Rail canyon, there is an EXTREMELY intricate canyon. Only one level has walls as backgrounds. Not to mention that the character models are incredibly detailed. And finally, many cutscenes in this game are in awesome CG. Phwew!
Music/sound: 9/10
Highly appropriate music for each stage. Not only that, but it's fun to listen to on the soundtrack. Each team has a cool theme song plus a main and final boss theme. Team Sonic's is kind of lame, and Team Rose's is a true matter of opinion, but the others are nicely done. It's kind of hard to hear what they're saying, however. And yes, you rap fans won't enjoy the Team Rose theme that much, but so what?
It starts out annoying when the flying characters say "Wee" or "Yah" or whatever they say, but you get used to the noise.
It's sometimes funny to listen to what the characters say when they get points. Some people complain about the characters talking too much. Think about it this way: How could they not talk? Would the three of them do the mission in silence without even talking too each other?!? However, some of the lines are repeated frequently, which is kind of annoying. Some are also poorly translated, like Tails's, "Look at all those Eggman's robots!" =0.
Overall:95/100
I added up the scores for the different categories and this is what I got. In summary, this game is fun to play, can be played over and over again, has great graphics and sound, and has an okay plot.
TRUE SONIC: If I've said it once, I've said it 300,000,000 times: this game is nothing like 2D Sonic. That means that fans of the 2D Sonic may not like this if they have closed minds, and it means people (actually - like me) that generally hate 2D Sonic to death might like the game. For me, true Sonic is only starting.
THE COMMON CONS
1. camera problems: I disagree with this entirely. The camera is not a problem! What is everyone's problem!?! Do you press the camera zoom-in button to try and move?
2. Story: Poor Sega. they can't make everyone happy. Some people say there is too much, and some say there is not enough. I personally like a good storyline and a lot of it. Just not as much as in SADX, where there was a cutscene after every stage.
3. ___ can't___: Sonic can't spindash, Knuckles can't climb or glide, and Tails can't tail whip. It's true, sadly. BUT WHAT WOULD BE THE PURPOSE OF FLYING IF KNUCKLES COULD CLIMB AND GLIDE? WHAT WOULD BE THE PURPOSE OF SONIC'S TEAMATES IF HE COULD SPINDASH? WHY THE #@!$%@ WOULD TAILS TAIL WHIP WHEN HE CAN SHOOT HIS TEAMATES IN THUNDER SHOOT? New playing styles are okay, people.
4. Graphics: read my opinion on them above.
5. Music is not good: stupid rap was trashed after SA2:B. Play that if you want rap, and play this if you want actual music. The stages have awesome music playing in the background. You won't find yourself singing it, but it makes incredible BGM.
6. Powercores: OH NO! A REAL CON! *gasp* *choke* *cough*. Read all about it in my gameplay rating above.
7. Stages have identical themes for each team: Think about it this way: would you rather have a lot of stupid backgrounds (SA2:B) or a few REALLY awesome ones (Sonic Heroes)?
8. Some of the levels have the same paths for two teams: Since you only have two missions per level, playing as another team on a level could be considered a hard mode for that level. I've never really gotten sick of a level because I played it with two teams. The thing is: there just aren't enough missions for each team to make the stage repetetive.
9. Enemies are too simple to destroy: this is an easy one to disprove. If you're that good at the game, then you'll try to go for points by destroying enemies quickly. (getting points earns you an "A" ranking, and you need to get all A ranks to complete the game)
10. the 2D games are better: I think people say this so much because they aren't wanting change. It's true, the 2D games are much faster at their best. Nevertheless, I like the 3D games more.
Q and A:
Q: Is this a true Sonic game?
A: It follows the tradition of the past two 3D games, though it mostly follows the speed characters from both games. It depends on what you think a "true" Sonic game is. These aren't at all like the 2D games everyone is attached to.
Q: Is switching between characters like playing three playing styles at once; would it be like alternating between Sonic and Knuckles in SA2:B?
A: No, it has the same playing style all the way through; the switching just adds a ton of new moves and techniques.
Q: How hard is the game?
A: Easier than SA2:B, but harder than SADX. I'd rank it at medium difficulty. Like most games, it is a lot harder the first time through.
Could have been a classic but no.Still a great game though.

First of all Id like to say Game Cube is a great system and if youre a huge Sonic fan like me then Game Cube blows X Box and Playstation 2 right out of the water at least in that department. You got Sonic Adventure 2,Sonic Adventure DX,Sonic Mega Collection(those 3 discs are NOT in PS2 and X Box's library)and now this. While it isnt exactly a classic like Sonic Adventure DX which was a masterpiece this game does come close and its a breath of more fresh air after Sega's disappointing Super Monkey Ball 2 game.Id say you should get all the Sonic games you can and this one is a must.

Sonic Heroes has all that a game could have, kind of. The switching characters can get get confusing and the bosses seem easier than in other Sonic games. Other than those two minor things the levels get repeatitive, pretty much all the levels are like SA2(Sonic Adventure 2). But the bosses vary, and the three characters are awesome, the graphics rule and you finally get to see the Chaotix in action! The four teams are Team Sonic, Team Dark , Team Rose and Team Chaotix. Team Sonic consists of, you guessed it, our heroes, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles. Team Dark has Rouge, a renegade robot named Omega and (surprise)Shadow(Shadow has amnesia so you won't get how he survid in SA2). Team Rose-Amy, Cream, and Big. Finally, Team Chaotix, Vector, Charmy and Espio. Oh, Eggman has the same idea as always TAKE OVER THE WORLD!! Not to mention an old enemy of Sonic comes back too... Go out and with Sonic speed get this game before Eggman does!!

PROS
-Better voices
-Better music
-Beautiful graphics
-Enemies don't die after 1 hit
-Levels are longer and more challenging
-Multiplayer
CONS
-Camera angle still needs a bit of work
-No Chao Garden
-All of the teams go through the same levels
-Pointless in-level dialogue ("Wow, my head's spinning!" "What a wild ride!")
-I don't think it's fair that they made Team Dark have the hardest stages. They're my favorite team, and their levels take like, 20 minutes to complete. And the boss battles... oh, the boss battles...
-They brought Omochao back (but at least he doesn't stalk you in the levels this time)
OVERALL
This game is wonderful and highly addicting, but it does have some flaws. But hey, nothing is perfect, right? I'd reccomend renting it before buying it. I congratulate the Sonic Team for making another great game, and even if it does have flaws, they can't do anything but keep getting better. I reccomend this game.
