i've played it for a year and 10 months....i just cancelled my subscription. this game is now the worst game i've ever played due to the recent changes.

I am rewriting my review because the SWG team at Sony has completely ruined the game. I played it and loved it for over 2 years, then NGE completely and utterly destroyed this game. Sony is scrambling now, I see commercials on TV now and offers with them giving away the expansion packs if you buy the game. This game WAS great, now it is your typical, linear MMOPRG, but only in the Star Wars universe. You may like it, but be prepared to go loner, because when I ended my sub, there was hardly anyone on any server I checked out. Gets prettly lonely when you are all alone in a universe.

Allright, I'm finally going to post a review. After many months of reading some of the reviews people post, I feel like its my turn to say whats on my mind. First of all, let me say that this game is a drug, and you can easily become an addict. The game is so much fun that it becomes the highlight of your day on most days. I go to school full time and I'm currently in the military and still find time to play, even though most times its at the cost of sleep. When you first start of the game, you'll probably be lost for a couple of weeks, I suggest you join a major guild, If interested you can always join DMG-i in the Gorath server, we'll be more than happy to help you. After you receive some help and guidance, you'll be able to start enjoying the game alot more. The graphics are spectacular 4/5, The sound is Great 3/5 and if you like the star wars theme then you can go as high as 5/5. Here is where it gets tricky, this game is not as fun unless you want to get to Jedi, cause thats all the content it has. You can pretty much do anything in the game, its like a sur real world. It seems as is the devs are trying hard as of lately to improve the fun factor in the game, and it is showing, in the last patched the game has become alot more fun than ever. Please try in and if so, play in Gorath server, DMG-I is our guild.

Looking to ruin your life? Good. You've come to the right game! Be prepared to wash the next 3-4 months of your life down the tubes! This game is so so so addicting and best of all there is something for everyone so all can be hooked.

You like Sims online? Then become an Master Entertainer in the game and chat your hearts desire off in the Cantina.

You like Knight of the Old Republic? The take the path to become jedi. Note: For those who have nothing to do 24/7 this is the profession for you. :)

You like creatures or pets? Good! Beoome a Creature Handler and and tame wild pets and make them your own or sell them!

You like sicence? Become a Bio-Engineer and make tissues and clone extrordinary creatures.

You like helping others? Become a master doctor and heal people and increase their stats via Buffs? P.S. you'll make a boat load of money with this profession.

You hate jedi? Good become a Bounty Hunter and hunt live in-game jedi. May the force be with you not them. :0

Move your way up the Imperial or Rebel army!

Build a house! Make your own clothes! Make weapons. Harvest precious minerals and meats!

Hunt down the Rancor or force sensitive NPC's.

Its all up to you!

And best of all the greatest saga ever told will be yours!

A MUST HAVE!

I received my SWG copy with skepticism. However, not only was I blown away by the graphics but amazed at the intuitive interface. I just came off playing Earth & Beyond and Ultima Online found this had a much easier learning curve. The SWG tutorial was great and you can be out and about with all the other galaxy folk searching for your old pal Darth Vader in no time. It is the next level of MMORPG's in my opinion. I would label it a must have for any Star Wars or MMORPG fan.

Expect something more than your usual MMORPG

Star Wars Galaxies disappoints many because it doesn't exclusively concentrate on action. Many customers buy this game expecting to be Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, or Princess Leia. They don't expect to be a Xaverri, Kid Dxo'la, or Ton Phanan. Never heard of these people, they are all minor, but influential characters, in the Star Wars universe. The 3 main characters experience epic struggles. In contract, the former 3 characters experience struggles of a different kind (to survive, to budget, to fight without a light saber in your hands, and to develop some form of sustainable existence). Star Wars Galaxies allows the player to gradually build up a character into a person; complete with contacts, conflicts, and adventure. In addition, most players expect to become a Jedi immediately. The experiences that create a Jedi were horrendous (even Yoda said so). Hence, the Jedi path is hard, because the Jedi path is, well, hard. For casual players like me, SWG is a perfect game. I'm not working towards a force slot. Instead, I've slowly developed 3 players(SWG allows up to 10 players on different servers); each with strengths and weaknesses. For die-hard players, there are many professions to master (from smuggler to chef). In addition, die-hard players can take one event (pvp combat for instance) and slice it into multiple playing experiences (ie. commando, combat medic, factional armor smith). For combat oriented players, there is always an Imperial presence and many rebels running around. Finally, SWG is a life oriented game; meaning, your character can change as your interests change. Example: I started one of my characters as a novice artisan, worked my way up to novice weapon smith, changed into a tailor, and now am working towards a master artisan. In addition, I picked up some rifle, fencing, and scouting skills on they way. In the near future, I hope to maybe dabble in the architect profession. All in all, Star Wars Galaxies is a deeply immersive game that will continue to get better as they add expansions to enhance the playing experience. More importantly, it takes roughly a month (incidentally, the amount of prepaid time provided with a new SWG purchase) before you start to realize the scope of the game.

For Star Wars fans, this is a MUST HAVE game. How do I know? I have beta tested the game for the past two months, and I am not bored with it.

Imagine any role in the Star Wars universe, and with a little time and effort, you will be able to partake in that role. There are so many professions available (tailor, bounty hunter, marksman, smuggler, chef, weapons designer, dancer, and even JEDI!) that everyone will find something that suits them.

So why only 4 stars? The game isn't really complete. The servers are very stable, but some aspects don't really feel "Star Warsy" enough. For example, as of now there are no vehicles or mounts. That means no X-wings, no landspeeders, and no dewback riding. The war between the Empire and the Rebellion certainly was not very visible during beta. The developers promise that vehicles will be available at a later date through patches and expansion packs.

I can't imagine any Star Wars fan or MMORPGer not loving this game. This may not be for the main stream fan who just likes the movies and wants to be the hero of the Rebellion like most of the Star Wars games out there, but for most PC gamers, this is the must have game of the year!

This will be the best game ever created!

If you were disappointed or just angry with some of the Lucasarts products that have come out in the past, don't let that repel you from buying this game! ... Go to [a website], read about the game, and look at the screen shots and you will agree with me. The landscapes look so real! It's like you could reach your hand into the screen and touch the images popping out at you! After going to that website I was hooked on the game and could not stop reading about it. If you are a really big fan of Star Wars, prepare to live your fantasies! You can choose from a wide range of jobs from a cook or dancer to a smuggler or bounty hunter and even a jedi! There is also an expansion pack coming out six months after the release of the original product. In the expansion you will be able to buy your own personal ships and engage in space combat! ...

My two cents: Awesome game! Although I don't play nearly as often as I used to - my account for this game has been active since the game launch in 2003. I plan to continue for awhile to try the expansion of Jump to Lightspeed. This game is fun for adults and young people (yes I'm an adult) - a must play for Star Wars fans.

I Have really been looking forward to this game for almost a year!!
for those of you that are just hearing about this game it takes place in the Ep 4 -6 time pirod where you can live on planits such as Naboo Hoth Yavin 4 and Chandrila.
The game lets you fix up your person however you want changing all parts body armor hidden guns if they can do it in the movies they can do it in here. You Can build your own houses and Shops, Bars, Bases, Hidouts (For Bounty Hunters)
In Galaxies theres a range of schills such as Jedi, Bounty Hunting, Jedi giving you schill in combat and resoning schills Bounty HUnting giving you schills in tracking, Aiming, and Combat schills. If you belong to a clan you can create your own Town for your clan in your town you make the laws you can let anyone in you want and keep out other clans :)
I'm making this sound like a kids game but this game is for all ages what I have said so far is what they tell you on the web sites what they dont tell you is how you can build empires and rule the Galaxie:P
in later Exp pack you will be abel to fly your own starfighters and sharships fight with other gamers in space and take on star destroyers if your dumb enough :) anyway BUY this game!!!!!!
