The first Metal Gear Solid on PS was awesome. That game was mind blowing. And one of the best features it had was the music. It was incredible. This version completely did away with the music and did a whole new soundtrack which was a huge mistake. The graphics were better, but that still didn't make the game better. However, if you 've never played the original game on the PS, then you might want to check this game out.
No excuse for stupidity

Instead of saying one system is superior to another or who dropped what ball, I'll just tell you why I believe this should be a truly great game. Nintendo players didn't get to enjoy what many, including myself, believe was truly was one of the most original, well acted, intelligently designed and written video game experiences ever. Playstation owners got what is in my opinion one of the best games ever released, and it was followed up 3 years later by a disappointing sequel. The sequel's storyline and character..um..*twists* sucked, but the graphics were stunning and involving, with things like first person perspective aiming, etc.
Now, the best parts of the sequel are being melded with the much better original game, and if the same voice acting is used we should have a stunning, wholly cinematic experience. PS2 is getting MGS3 soon which is a treat. But based on the info and screens I've seen, Twin Snakes should appeal to (A) those new to Metal Gear, (B) those who want a mature, intelligent character driven story, (C) those who are uber-fans and simply have to have the most polished, pretty version of the game, and finally (D) those players who only own a Gamecube and never got a chance to play Metal Gear Solid, a game ahead of its time. How many times have you thought "I wish this game was on my system" or, "Man, if only the original Metal Gear looked as good as the sequel!" I know I have, and now it's coming true. I can't wait!
MGS2 + MGS + Best next gen system besides XBOX = Sweet!

First I would just like to say both the original MGS was for sure one of the best games and so was MGS2, I played both and loved them, and then I heard an MGS title was coming to the GC, I was excited, oh yeah I was, I'm glad they put this on the GC, with this system you have the potential to put better graphics into a game besides the wrather weak PS2 which dissapointed me with disc read errors and not many appeling games beside MGS, I have both systems and I think the Gamecube is just so much better, it has better controls, better games and with MGS on its side it towers over the PS2 in graphics, contols, and game selection, plus all PS2 really has is RPGs which I think suck! Though with gamecube only at 100 bucks any gamer should get it, and PS2 fanboys shut-up with your PS2 is better than any other system and the you can watch DVDs crap talk, the quality of the DVD player is the worst, just get and APEX DVD player, they're only like 60 bucks and I never had a problem with it unlike the PS2, plus GTA MGS Jak and Daxter and maybe the new ratchet and clank are all going to be or already on other consoles so I think the old nerdy fanboys should shut-up!
Great development, and kick @ss graphics

This is a pretty good and challenging game.. cinemas and graphics are awesome. The mouth of the people move while talking, something it did not do on the versions of play 1. I have not played it myself, but I have seen the gameplay.. I will play it as soon as I finish Hitman 2.

i dont have a problem with the gameplay... its the storyline dialogue that has been hacked up and words changed to "dumb it down" or over explain different aspects of the story developement. it felt like the script was given to bad actors. in the original, i felt that the story was delivered near flawlessly. it feels cheezy in this remake but nevertheless the gameplay, the reason we all buy the game, clearly shines forth and has truly improved over its predecessor and is worth the buy. but don't expect to be engaged in the story the same way you were on the playstation.
Finally a great mature game for the Cube

I rented this game after beating the original several time and all I have to say it this game is a masterpiece. The graphics are good, the blood flows, and Solid Snake is a bad ass. The only negatives are bad voice acting and not adding anything new, other than that this is a great game.
Metal Gear fan = must buy
Not Metal Gear fan = rent first

It still is, and always will be, a classic.
The updated graphics are great, and if I'm not mistaken, they also added some very nice cut scenes. Some may complain that they're too "Matrix-y" but I think they fit the game rather well and are very entertaining, regardless of the implausibility of some of the scenes.
The updated gameplay, which basically adds all the moves from MGS2, is somewhat nice, but makes the game a little easier. The original simply wasn't designed with first person shooting in mind, it makes the game a little too easy now. For instance, in the original, there was a room you had to get by where you absolutly were not allowed to use your weapons, forcing you to either sneak past the guards, or sneak up behind them and snap their necks. Well, now you have the tranquillizer gun, and can just put them to sleep from afar. Pretty easy.
The second time around, I also notice how cheesy the plot can get at times, maybe back when I was younger I could tolerate cheese better. Oh well.
At any rate, it's nice to know that the granddaddy of all sneaking games is still one of the best, despite all the different variations on the sneaking theme in games that have been released of yet (it seems all games these days has at least one "sneaking mission" involved).
Bottom line: Worth at least a rental for those who've already played in, just to see the game played with hardware that matches its sophistication. A must-buy for those who haven't experienced it yet. If you thought MGS2 was good, it's worth your money to figure out why the rest of us thought it was a somewhat dissappointing sequel.
A Snake-charming reimagination

Almost six years ago, one of the greatest of all console games hit the Sony PlayStation, Metal Gear Solid. It featured next-generation gameplay, coupled with that a deep storyline, unforgettable characters and some of the best audio/visual presentations ever conceived. Now that classic has been revamped for Nintendo's GameCube. While Metal Gear veterans shouldn't expect anything drastically new in this version, it's still nonetheless a cinematic masterpiece that both seasoned fans and newcomers alike will both enjoy.
You are Solid Snake, the legendary hero sent in to a secret Alaskan base to discover the whereabouts of Metal Gear Rex and whether the terrorists have the ability to create a nuclear strike. The gameplay elements from Sons of Liberty can be found here such as first-person shooting, hanging from ledges, and hiding in lockers. While they're not required to play through Twin Snakes' levels, it's still a welcome change even though its more of an option.
Visually, Twin Snakes is one of the better-looking GameCube titles. It's slightly more detailed than Sons of Liberty. The game does tend to suffer from slowdown and the framerate is almost never constant. The level designs haven't gone through any significant change but the newly enhanced real-time cutscenes will surely draw players in. Sound-wise, the sound effects from the original are still intact. One disappointment is that some of the memorable songs from the original soundtrack have been altered. MGS vets will also recognize that a couple character voices have been dubbed differently as well.
Twin Snakes isn't in the same veins of a remake like what Capcom did with Resident Evil. It may be basically the same game that was released back in 1998, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Players can finally be able to play Metal Gear Solid in its best version yet, and although this reimagination of that classic hasn't broken any new territory, the fun still remains. Special thanks go out to Nintendo, Konami and Silicon Knights for collaborating to bring this title to GameCube. A Solid game.
