An awesome title for the cube...

I had never played a Metal Gear Solid (MGS) game before but I took the chance of buying the game anyway, just because it looked so cool. I wasn't sorry. The play control was done fairly well-the only things I didn't like were the inability to change the camera view and the inability to move when in 1st person mode-and the graphics are a very nice upgrade from the previous version. All the characters have deep profiles that make them unique, from Solid Snake (the protagonist) to Sniper Wolf (a female antagonist). The only other thing that turns me off (but not much) is the fact that this is a fairly short game. I haven't finished yet, but I'm 12 hours in and I know I'm close to the end. Maybe it's just me, but it just feels like it goes by fast. Overall I would give MGS:TTS a 4.5 but since I can't, a 5 will serve it justice enough.

Old Snake, New Tricks

Metal Gear Solid was perhaps the greatest title available for the original Playstation, and one of my all-time favorite games. When Metal Gear Solid 2 came out, it dazzled me with it's excellent graphics and new gameplay options, but left much to be desired for the plot. Did we really need another action game that rips off the Matrix? (re: training program). Raiden was also a woefully stale character.

Fortunetly, Nintendo and Hideo have come together to release Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. This new game blends together the compelling cinematic storyline and great characters of the first game with the new gameplay options of the second game. For an added bonus, we now have all-new, John Woo inspired cut-scenes to help carry the story.

One reviewer made the erronous statement that Snake cannot run and fire a weapon at the same time (said reviewer should have perhaps read the gameplay section of the manual). Snake can indeed fire all manner of weapons while on the run, although any player will find that the "gun's blazing" approach will have them seeing a game over screen more often than not.

This game was awesome. I played the original on my friend's PS1 and i liked it. I rented this on my Gamecube, and i loved it. It is, handsdown, one of the best games i have ever played. But it has a downside, it is rather short. I beat it the first day i rented it, but i would gladly rent it again. What i liked was the ability to play the game over using the special items that you unlocked. I would definately recomend this game, if not to buy, then to rent. Oh, and make shure you have lots of space on your memory card cause you'll probaly need it. :) L8r.

Plays like the orignal, but doesn't hold true.

If you are a fan of the original you may be shocked to see what the cutscenes are like in this game. Snake finds himself jumping off of live missiles and doing cartwheels down hallways. You feel like you're watching Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon instead of an MGS cutscene. Snake is no longer a cool-headed soldier, but an overly aggressive maniac who points his gun at injured old men. That's aside from the slapstick humor that's been injected into every other cutscene.

The gameplay is largely unchanged. You can now go into FPV and a few other features from MGS2 make it in. Other than that nothing has really changed. A few very minor level changes. If you are an old fan and can get over the cutscene and voice changes than you'll find the gameplay is fun like you remembered, if a bit too easy. Newcomers will have fun playing the remake of a masterpiece, but might find themselve confused by the story if/when they move onto other parts of the series.

Solid Indeed

I never got a chance to play Metal Gear Solid when it debuted initally back for the Playstation. As such, I came into this game not really knowing anything about the series and about the nature of the game as a whole. Yet, i was surprised to see just how fun it really is.

MGS: The Twin Snakes is remake of the Orginal Title for the Playstation. The game, while an action title at heart, places emphasis on strategy and stealth. It is not so much that you must defeat all the enemies present, but rather you must outsmart them. If you do no avoid the enemy, you may find yourself dangerously outgunned. Though you do acquire some great armaments, the name of time is still stealth. This adds a bit of realism in the game, since in reality it is impossible to charge a room full of opponents and expect to survive them.

Graphically, the game features some well done visuals. It is comparable to the Playstation 2 release of Metal Gear Solid 2. However, if you have never played that game, take heed that the graphics are well done and very crisp. Yet, it feels that the developers did not take take to take advantage of the Gamecube's capabilities. Still, they are impressive.

When it comes to the sound department, TTS does not dissapoint either. The voice acting, as a whole, is superb, considering that there are no big name talent on board. However, when compared to the original, the voice acting comes up a bit forced. When you hear some of the characters speak, you will know what I mean. The music and sound effects are also great, adding a degree of depth to the game.

Controlling the game is a brisk as well. The gamecube controller is well suited, as you will find that most of the control functions easy to handle. Movement can be done via the control stick or the D-pad. I prefer the jostick, since the D-pad is a but too small. If you manage to get a hand of the Hori Digital Game pad for the Gamecube, then that works as well.

I really do not want to get into the story too much, since that can spoil the game. However, understand that MGS games are known for containing very deep storylines that you may or may not agree with it. However, when all is said and done, you will be amazed at the many twists and turns the story has taken. Suffice to say, Solid Snake is a likeable protagonist.

My complaints from this game are few but worth noting. The game is rather short, placing more of an emphasis on the story rather than actual gameplay. This is dissapointing, as had the game been a bit longer, it could have been better. However, there are many difficulty levels and modes of play, so you can find yourself revisiting this one for a bit of time. Secondly, many of features implemented from MGS 2 are nice, but detract from the fact that this was made for the Playstation. As such, had the remake been more like the Resident Evil one, the new features could have been a more welcomed addition. However, due to the intense story, it might have been difficult to incorporate new areas, bosses, etc.

As a whole, this is a worthy Gamecube title. It is very fun, albeit a bit frusturating. The productions are of high value, as you may feel you are watching a movie. If you never played a Metal Gear Solid game, give this one a spin. If you have played the orignal title, then try this one out. It's definitely one of the finer Gamecube Titles available.

Dude, you know you're going to buy this game. You know you're psyched. Not I nor anybody has to convince you of anything - we're psyched, man. Metal Gear Solid was, for me, the most enjoyable gaming experience of the first "next-generation". Oh, those days, reading EGM fanatically, catching whatever hype they spat right in the mouth - and I am so glad I did. I was never very good at video games (still ain't), but when I played this, it wasn't like I was playing a video game, it wasn't like some geeky Japanese development team's cardboard-male-fantasy-sequence realized in pixel form... I don't know. Maybe I was just naive, but whenever anybody played it down, I called SACRELIGE! Will that feeling still ring true the second time around? For me, I'm sure of it. X-ing off the days, man.

INCREDIBLE

If you are a fan of the original game "Metal Gear Solid" and consider it to be your all time favorite game like I do then this game is for you as it mirrors the original and pumps it up to todays standards. The graphics have been improved along with the first person shooter option to take out enemies like "sons of liberty". Now, some may say why buy this game again if you already own it and have beaten it on PS One? Because it's like a "director's cut". For all of the film makers or novelists etc that wish they could do an old piece of work again but better this is "Kojima's" time to shine as now the game is done with SUCH wonderful technology to showcase the beautiful visuals of this game, It is both revolutionary and nostalgic all at once, the dialogue is the same the characters are the same but it's as if you played the original game without your glasses on now everything is crisp and clear and the first person shooting ability makes it my pick for best game of the year, I LOVED "Sons of Liberty" but found the story in the original the best, Im sure part 3 will be amazing also but this is a revamped classic that shows the original game in a new way that can grab new gamers. For old and new fans of MGS this is a MUST have!

My thoughts..

Ok, first lets take a look at this games postive attributes. It is the first metal gear for the gamecube and its only for the gamecube, stunning graphics, ausome gameplay, great camera angles, and not very glitchy. Its bad attributes, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, well uh not alot. This game combines the great story of Metal Gear Solid and it has great graphics and gameplay such as Metal Gear Solid 2. Whoever said gamecube is the least powerful needs to get their facts straight. For one thing the ps2 has a glitch in its system that makes all the graphics shaped square, if you'd pay attention to how they're made. But don't get me wrong i love ps2s almost as it was a stepbrother to my gamecube. But anyways enough talkin trash, the game looks great and i'm excited of all the new games coming in fall. (FOR ALL SYSTEMS) And I'd probably put this game on my list. If you like metal gear solid and you have a gamecube, get it! Later.........

I'll start by saying this, Metal Gear rocks, no matter what system it is on. Improved grapics and better control do a lot for a game, so whoever said this is just some stupid remake needs to get their head checked.
