Best Zelda yet

This is a great game. At first i said...nope...because the graphics looked like they were very cartoonish. But then once i started to play it....i started to love the cartoonish characters. They really did a great job with this game because it is very long and you keep on getting new songs to unlock new things...and new sword moves that are really cool (and helpful). This game also has one of the best story plots i've ever seen...i can't explain the plot in here....because well....i'd be giving away the game's secrets....and i can only write 1,000 words in this review.

Another awesome game to continue this series

Ever since I started the playing the Zelda games on N64, I right away wanted more and more to come. All these games are actually challenging everywhere you go. Even in "Wind Waker", there is a great storyline and a bunch of new characters you face. Also, what I thought was really cool was the fact that Ganon, or Ganondorf, returns in this game to battle you. This game also creates a lot of suspense to all the players. The "Wind Waker" game will keep you on the edge of your seat for a long time.

Why oh WHY does everyone like the graphics?

The Legend of Zelda has been a beloved Nintendo series since the heyday of the NES, and it has been getting progressively better until the thrill-a-minute Majora's Mask for the N64. We all looked at this game's previews with hesitation about the cartoony graphics, but when we got the game, everyone commented that they didn't mind said graphics.

Everyone, that is, except me.

Don't get me wrong--it's a great, absorbing game, but the graphics never really clicked with me. But graphics aside, the music is great, the area is huge (huge (HUGE)) and it's really fun. The replay value is rather low, but that's okay. However, I can't help hoping that the next Zelda will go back to the previous style of graphics.

One of the finest Zelda games ever

I've been a hardcore Zelda mark ever since I first popped that gold cartridge into my NES way back when. I've followed Link up Death Mountain time and again, from the NES to the GameBoy to the SNES to the N64 to the Philip's CD-I.....okay, let's not mention that travesty of a game again, shall we? I've got the comics, I've got the cartoons, I ate the cereal...I had the friggin' board game and watch for God's sakes! Anyway, the point is...when I got my GameCube, the first game I had to have was Wind Waker, and it did not disappoint! Like many Zelda fans, I was shocked to see the graphic difference, but instead of moaning about how childish it looked, I realized just how great of a game this could be, and I was dead on the money! Flat out, if you only get one 'Cube game this Holiday season, make it Wind Waker!

Great

Graphics are best ive seen next to metriod prime, Metriod prime and zelda are the greatest hits for ngc if you don't have them pick them up if you don't have a gamecube pick that up too!

Monumental Adventure

Many of the complaints surrounding this new Zelda game have centered around one thing: Cel-Shading. Does the game actually suffer because of it? Absolutely not. In fact, I find the new graphical style quite refreshing, and an undeniable part of the game's charm. While some may quibble that the new look has reduced the classic Zelda gaming experience to the "kiddie" realm, know that these detractors are most likely disgruntled gamers that removed the disk after fifteen minutes of play time. The classic adventure is here. The highly enjoyable and fresh puzzle system remains. The story is intact. The quest is unrivaled. Let those who base gaming on eye-pleasing pyrotechnics look elsewhere for their adrenaline fix. I for one found The Legend of Zelda: WW a wonderful experience. I am sure you will too. Highly recommended.

Engrossing and magical...

Nintendo's been trying hard to bring its major franchises -- Mario, Metroid, and F-Zero, to name a few -- to the Gamecube. Almost two years after the release of the Gamecube, they've finally released the next game in the Legend Of Zelda series. And fans will not be disappointed.

Some have derided the game as "kiddy" (an argument often leveled against Nintendo and its products), pointing to its cartoonish cel-shaded graphics, the easy-to-understand storyline, and the young age of the protagonist, but to do so is to overlook one of the most engrossing games available for the Gamecube. While the game is certainly accessible to younger players -- the difficulty is not extraordinary, though some of the puzzles may require parental assistance -- older ones will find plenty to like.

The graphical style has probably been the most hotly debated part of the entire game (which is odd, because Zelda titles have generally been renowned more for their gameplay than for flashy graphics). Rather than the texture-mapped pseudo-realistic 3D style you generally see (as in, say, Super Mario Sunshine), the entire game world is rendered with a technique called "cel-shading" (a "cel" being what traditional pen-and-ink animators call a single frame of animation). This gives the game a bright, colorful, and at times cartoonish look. It's a bit underwhelming at first, but as you explore the game world's vast terrain, you can appreciate how much style and personality it gives the game.

The gameplay is similar to what was seen in Nintendo's two N64 Zelda games (Ocarina Of Time and Majora's Mask). This is not a bad thing, especially since Ocarina Of Time is widely regarded as one of the best videogames ever produced. The combat system has been slightly tweaked, as you are now able to counter-attack enemies, and you have a few more moves of your own. You can also disarm some foes, and pick up and wield various enemies' weapons. Wind Waker feels a bit less connected than the last few games, because the entire world is a giant ocean dotted with several dozen islands. Some of the islands contain sprawling towns and mysterious dungeons, while others are little more than barren points of rock (though almost all of them hold some sort of secret). Link's trusty Ocarina has been replaced by a magical conductor's baton, with which you must tap out various rhythms on the controller in order to cast magical spells. The game also features connectivity with the Game Boy Advance, allowing a second player to assist you in certain areas.

For those of you who still have your doubts, I have a short story to relate: When I got this game, I was living in a dorm with about 30 other people, and as I was in school, I didn't have a ton of time to play it. My Gamecube lived downstairs in the communal TV room. One day during finals, I had nothing to do, so I went to see if I could play my new game. What I found was one of my friends playing, and about 8 other people sitting there, just watching him play and shouting helpful advice. I came back a few hours later and they were all still there. If that's not the definition of engrossing, I don't know what is.

This is the first Zelda game I've played. It's great. The graphics are amazing. The animations and character expressions are dead on perfect. The story is light hearted but draws you in and makes this game just plain fun. One down side I was little disappointed with is there's no voice acting. You have to read everything. Maybe I'm spoiled by all the games who use voice actors. I don't mind reading. But I think voices would add personality to the characters. Not a big deal though. The controls take a little getting used to and there's a lot to remember. But once you get used to them they are rock solid. The camera can get a little annoying but it's much better than most games.

This game is excellent fun, and should be very appealing to new and existing fans of the series alike.

The new style of graphics is pleasing, yet a little mixed in results. I love the settings and most of the characters. I personally find link to be a little strange and concur with many others that the shadowing on his chin makes him often look like he has a beard. It's a small point that doesn't detract from what is a great game.

I feel that this game has a diverse and interesting range of characters, a trait very common in the series.

The audio could have been better. Many of the tunes are similar (if not the same) as in previous games and are very repetitive. I have to admit to finding myself whistling them though when I am not playing it.

The characters talk using text boxes. I personally believe that today's games consoles can offer much more than this. Perhaps hearing links voice would spoil his character somewhat, but I feel that voice over would definately improve any interactive story.

I think this is a much easier game than previous ones in the series and that is welcome, however it isn't always obvious what the next mission steps are and I recommend a guidebook/walkthrough be purchased. In my opinion this enhances the title as a lot of confusion and thus frustration is avoided and less time is spent wandering around wondering what to do - it keeps you in the action and where the challenges are so for me it does not spoil.

You'll enjoy this game. Every gamecube should have the pleasure of running this.
