This game is the worst. It is horrible sailing from place to place for the first half of the game. It is way too comic bookey. It doesn't hold a candle to oncrina of time.

I don't mean to crash anyones party but this game sucked... Its nothing like the other Zelda games.... I LOVED the origenal Zelda the best... And I liked all the others because they where based on the origanal, but this one is a totally diffrent story... it shouldn't have the opertunity to be have "Zelda" in its title. If they would change the green outfit (the only thing linking it to any of the other Zelda games) No one would even know it was sapposed to be a Zelda game.
Aren't we being a little dramatic?

There is a mixed opinion about The Wind Waker because of the graphics, but one has to keep in mind that cel-shading is more complex than the usual polygons. Besides, has anyone actually looked at the game? Gorgeous! I realize that you die-hard Zelda fans may be a bit discouraged with the graphics style, but deep down, y'all have a soft spot for the Hero of Time.
To anyone who's played through Ocarina of Time, this game takes place 100 years after Link defeats Ganon in that story. A young boy named Link is thrust into a quest he never expected when his sister is taken by a large bird, who first tried to kidnap a female pirate, who was dropped into a forest. Link goes to save her, and that's when his sister is taken. That same bird has been abducting girls with long ears, like a certain princess with an alter-ego. So that's how it begins, and later, Link gets the Wind Waker, which, like the Ocarina of Time (from that game) will play an integral part in his quest.
The graphics are amazing, and complimented with Progressive Scan support. Dolby Pro Logic II is a great bonus, the story is epic, the control is tight, the gameplay is unparalled, and just playing it is sweet.
Don't listen to what the detractors who bash this game because of the graphics say. The only opinion that matters is your own.
Zelda has always been a "Toon"

Being a die hard zelda fan, I have been reading updates of this game for a long time. I was one of those misguided fools that thought cell shading might not be the best idea for my beloved series. But boy was I wrong. Anyone that sits down in front of this game with a "somewhat" open mind and a love for adventure gaming WILL be in for the treat of his or her life.
The graphics blend together amazing to offer a complete experience. Gone are the days of the off looking pre-rendered backgrounds that made link look a bit out of place. Everything blends together to create its own cohesive world.
The gameplay is a clone of the famous Ocarina of Time. Nuff said.
Everything else in this game is just gravy.
In closing I would just like to state that I was thinking about the Zelda games of the past and I realized that Zelda has almost always been a "toon" type game in terms of graphics. The original on the NES was very toony as were the graphics in the SNES game. It was only in Ocarina that Link moved from that formula.
Cool Game

The Legend of Zelda series practically defined adventure gaming for an entire generation. Link, the hero of the adventure games, delighted millions by starring in games for each Nintendo console from the NES and Super NES to the Nintendo 64. Link brings this beloved franchise to the Nintendo GameCube in The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and he's more animated than ever.
The first thing you'll notice about The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker is that it looks completely different from any previous title in the franchise. Nintendo has opted to use cel-shading technology on Wind Waker; the result is that the game looks like a cartoon. Die-hard Zelda purists initially howled at this change, arguing that the game skews too young. I think it's fantastic. The cartoon animation style allows for better expression of the characters, and several of the animations--like Link trying to pick up an object that's too heavy--are so cute that you can't help but laugh a little.
The second thing you'll notice is a focus on wind. Instead of trotting around on foot, Link travels from island to island on a talking boat, but he doesn't get far without the wind blowing in right direction. Luckily, you'll learn how to change the direction of the wind early in the game, and you'll do so frequently--not only to power your boat but also to solve puzzles. Clever use of wind makes Wind Waker stand out from more conventional adventure games.
The third thing you'll notice is that the game is just plain fun. Puzzles are innovative and refreshing, and despite some tricky puzzles, I never felt too frustrated to keep playing. The locales you'll visit are invariably exotic and fun to explore, and the host of bizarre creatures you'll encounter (friendly and otherwise) are always a kick in the pants. Moreover, though the look is radically different, Wind Waker feels like a classic Zelda game. Veterans of the early games in the franchise will experience more than a bit of nostalgia while playing it.
The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker is everything you've come to expect from a Zelda game, and it's one of the best adventure games to date. This is a must-have title for any GameCube owner. --Joe "Wind Rules" Smith
Pros:
New cel-shaded animation looks great
Puzzles and characters are a lot of fun
There's a special place in the heart of any gamer who's ever owned a Nintendo console, and that place is shaped like a Triforce
Cons:
Some Zelda purists may be turned off by the cartoon look
Reason alone to buy a gamecube system!!

This game is omigodwheredidtheweekendgo good. It's exceptionally planned out, the graphics are stunning (although Link no longer looks like the same Link from previous games, once you get into the game, you forget about it)... it's comparable to a Disney movie. The game play is a great combination of fighting and puzzle solving -- and it's not so hard that the novice player gets frustrated and gives up, and not too easy that the experienced player gets frustrated because it's too easy. In every fighting instance you have to think out the puzzle of the fight -- how to win with what weapon. It's a perfect combination of smart and fun.
The levels are complex and involved, with secret rooms and "extras" all over. The interaction of dialogue between characters is cute, and some outrageously funny -- there are some inside jokes that adults will get, but too subtle for children to understand.
Nintendo is very good with what I call "carrot before your nose" games ... games that offer enough incentive and rewards to make you keep playing -- playing up until the very LAST possible minute before you go to work -- or you're falling over asleep.
It's that consuming.
It weaves a tale and takes you more than willingly along for the ride. And this game is the best of all Nintendo's offerings.
The game that deserves every praises.

The series of Legend of Zelda has always been fun and unique in many ways, the graphic, dynamic of the gameplay, and simplicity of the story plotline. I don't know why this game is not fully rated 5 stars, but it really deserves a full rating score.
Like everything, judge it after you have experience it. So don't think the Wind Waker is some kiddy game without the gory of Resident Evil or the over rated details of Final Fantasy, think about if the game is fun. Isn't that what video games are focus on? GAMEPLAY ENTERTAINMENT! The Wind Waker is a game dedicated on its unique gameplay and break through (well, not so much) of graphic abstraction in game design. If you have played Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask (previous game for N64), you will find similarities in WindWaker, such as the use of music notes and puzzles of getting the dungeon keys. But there are many differences as well, which you will have to find our yourself, no spoiler! The story plotline is interesting and surprising, but again...predictable. But hey! It is all about having fun with the game and puzzle.
So play it before you judge! Don't look at the screenshots and trailers, just rent it and play it. My feeling about the game is...it is like...playing a cartoon! Truly a state of the art gameplay.
Absolutely fantastic... and tremendously frustrating!

I've just finished The Wind Waker, the latest installment in Nintendo's famous series The Legend of Zelda, and even though I'm a Zelda fanatic, I can't help but have mixed feelings about this game.
On the one hand, the cute toon-shaded graphics are stunning. The gameplay, with its inven tive battle system where the hero and his enemies can pick up weapons dropped by other enemies, is irreproachable. The sounds, moods and music are captivating, even though there's no voice acting... but who'd want to hear Link talk?
On the other hand, it's not even that the game is too short, because actually the world is huge and the side quests numerous (although some might be a tad repetitive), nor that it lacks the traditional time/space warp (such as Overworld/Underworld, Young Link/Adult Link or Deku/Zora/Goron Link). It's that there are only five and a half dungeons! This can only leave you begging for more.
And this is what is so frustrating! The Wind Waker could have been one the greatest game ever made, but sadly it's not quite it, and I have no choice but to face the fact that it lacks the dimension of an Ocarina of Time, to name but one... So Mr. Miyamoto, when's the next one coming out?ÊÊ
Absolute masterpiece

How anyone can give this game one star is beyond me. It is simply the best game ever programmed. Miyamoto in an interview said this is how he envisioned a Zelda game to be all along. Finally with the power of the Gamecube he has been able to do it. The graphics are amazing. I too was skeptical of the cartoon look, but after playing the game, it really does lend itself to the free-flowing nature of the gameplay and truly sets the right tone for the game. The sound is great as well, but where this game really excels is the gameplay. The camera is very manageable and rarely causes problems. As in the Ocarina, you can spend an entire day just doing side quests to build character strength, etc. and not get bored. Then when you set out to complete the quest, the real fun begins. Amazing. A must have for any serious or casual gamer of any age.
