I haven't played the current version of SimCity and I am not one for speculation, but from the aspect of the game itself. You have to use your wit and careful planning to build the perfect city. It is rare that there is a game that causes the user to us their brain to play well, which is why this game is the very best. My wish however didn't come true in this game and I think they should incorporate it into the next version (Elections) I think it would be great to best your knowledge of persuasion as well a action to get your citizens to like you and elect you as their mayor, but if not then the computer will take control until you decide a better approach to improve the lives of your sims. So for those of you who like to think and use strategy to play games this is the best game for you

The look of the game itself is wonderful. The region concept and the god mode are also new perks that make this version interesting.
The game however is very hard to get going. Trying to get a city budget to balance requires intense monitoring of resources and spending, down to the building.
The main negative for me is that you cant turn off disasters. And, for those of out there who want to plan the perfect city and maintain it in a bubble this is no longer an option. So, eventually as your city grows you have to spend on Fire and police. There is an auto-goto disater option btw, I previous reviewer was incorrect.
Overall, I would have been more satisfied if the game had been [less expensive], but [$$$]is way too much. Be prepared to do some intense monitoring or plan to use this as a ...coaster.
I run a 2.2m, 736 RDRAM and a 128 ATI vid card on a P4 and I saw few hangups in the game play itself. Though the scroll is different from previous versions and it takes awhile to get used to the sensitivity.
I enjoy the intense managing and I would rate 5 stars but for the high price.
It does not disappoint

I have been eagerly awaiting SimCity 4 and it did not disappoint me one bit. It seems like they upgraded every feature in the game and expanded the possibilities of game play immensely. The only downside I might see is for fans of SimCity who might have older computers - with all the enhancements this game needs a state-of-the-art PC to run. I wouldn't run it on the "minimum" required. Make sure you have at least the "recommended" or better - to run all the new features this game really needs a PC with horsepower! (but its worth it!)

Sim City 4 was a BIG disappoint to me. I thought it would be so much better than it is. The game to much too complex. I can't figure out how to get my population above 3000. Something always goes wrong and there is no explanation in the game as to how to correct the problem. I ordered the "Prima Official Strategy Guide", however, it doesn't include the information anyone needs to figure out Sim City 4. I highly suggest no one should buy it.
Just not fun...

I've been playing SimCity since the original Nintendo release. I awaited the release of SimCity 4 with great anticipation, but I have to say, I was very dissapointed.
The graphics are good and all the features described were delivered, but... the game just isn't fun. I sat watching my cities develop (which takes forever) and realized I was having about as much fun as doing laundry.
I also found the game very easy. If you have played previous versions getting a big city takes little thought, just a LOT of time. I found I was constantly just watching the screen as I waited for stuff to happen.
I hope they make a new version that is FUN again, but I can't recommend this one.

SimCity4 is the best computer game you can ever imagine. You get to make up your own town and watch it change. You go from a flat piece of land to a mega-city. It is really cool. I bet you will want to play it.
A fantastic game! Maxis has redeemed themselves

I have been eagerly anticipating this game for some time. I have loved playing the Sims in the past as well as enjoyed all of the older versions of SimCity. I fondly remember laboriously playing it on all of my old machines "back in the day".
However, after playing the hideously bad "Sims Online" I was wondering if there really was any hope anymore for Maxis and Electronic Arts.
Lo and behold... there is. This game is simply everything a SimCity fan could have ever expected and more. Not only is the gameplay divine, but the musical score is top notch, ethereal, even catchy... but it isn't intrusive, which is a bonus.
The game play itself has been cleaned up, simplified a bit and the overall appearance should make fans of The Sims right at home. The feature to import your sims characters is pretty neat, too, although there seems to be a bug that lets you import PETS from Unleashed as though they were human players! It certainly gave me and my girlfiend a chuckle to see Waggles Kat going off to work.
In all, I think this is a fantastic game. Even the tutorials are great, and I hate tutorials.
Thankfully, I picked this game up TODAY retail at an Electronics Boutique (computer software retailer) at the Mall. They weren't SUPPOSED to have sold it, but they did because some other franchise owner was selling it as well. Lucky me!
Please oh please purchase this game. You will not be disappointed!
Speed Issues? Crashes? I don't know anything about that...

You know, I've read quite a few of the reviews on here, and I just don't agree at all. I love this game. The graphics are great, and the gameplay mechanics are incredibly detailed. I remember way back when you could put all your schools in a row in one corner of the city and it would serve the whole populace. Not so in SimCity 4. As for the people who are having trouble with speed and crashes, I'm very sorry. Maybe you just need to tweak your computer. I'm only running a P3 500 MHz with 224MB RAM and a 64MB GeForce2 with Windows2000. Yes, it may be running a mite slowly at times, but it's still very playable.
