While the game may have some glitches i hav seen none yet. I play on a 1.8 GHZ 512 DDRAM and 64MB Ti4200 GeForce4 graphics card. The other reviewers have either something wrong with their computers or are potheads. If u think im crazy than see my validation at IGN.com, Gamepro.com, Gamespy.com, or Gamespot.com. Buy the game and enjoy!
What a disapointment

I don't very often wait on pins and needles for a new computer game, but I couldn't wait for Sim City 4. The hype was all about incredible graphics and a great new engine.
Well, it was a bunch of hype. It's buggy as hell, slow, and the graphics are sometimes worse than Sim City 3000 (pipes for instance). I have a kick... system, so I don't think it's a confict with my hardware either. What happened Maxis? I loved SimCity 3000.
I am hoping they come out with a patch soon...cuz this [isn't good].
How to become a great planner?

Hello! everybody I know this game is a quite difficult.I agree on that. But after several times fail to built my empire, now its time for me to be proud as great mayor for my city called as "The New Kuala Lumpur".I've been read all ur opinion on Sim City 4 and I felt very upset for those looser....and now for all the Sim City 4 Lovers especially those looser I wanna share with u all my secret ingredient...
>watch ur income & expensess(try manipulate it with a loan)
>mayor rating is very important as reward are base on it.
>education is a key for the city to growth as big commercial and high tech. industry need an educate workforce to operate.
>try to zoned ur area specifically.for example the best area for commercial is at the center of ur city. For residential area try to make it square and put playground, skateboarb park and etc in the center of the square. Also same basic priciple for commercial, put a plaza on it.For industrial try to built it near the train station and if u can support a port its more better.
>built police station, fire department, school and hospital in one area. And start ur adventure base on the coverage area....
>for the utilities like water & electricity will become ur major problem as these item will increase ur expeses rapidly if u dont know how to manage it properly.use ur I.Q and operate ur brain how to handle this matter.
Ok folks this all the time i had.dont forget to try this basic formula and i'm sure u can get some idea! Now my "New Kuala Lumpur" had reach 130,000. and I have only 3 cities in my region total population is 250,000 and the demand are increasing! can u imagine how big my cities is. And also i doesnt need any businees deal that makes my sim upset as my income per months is excess of $2000...remember plan ahead before u act!PEACE BRO...
Put the coffee-maker into overdrive! U'll be losing sleep!

I for one am absolutely thrilled to actually get this game. I for one remember how much I enjoyed playing Simcity 2000 but after losing it to a computer crash and the CD-Rom by unfortunate circumstances, I decided to get "Simcity 4" and I have to say I am absolutely thrill yet dissapointed at the same time.
I'll go into the dissapointments first just to clear them out of the way. The manual instructions are very inadequate, and only scratch the surface of the scope of this game. Also the game itself runs incredibly slow, even on the more advanced computer systems. The best way to temper this problem is to set the details to "low". The greatest fault I have with this is how some of the streets actually lay out. For example, It's a real pain trying to get a good street system because of problems trying to make them diagonal. Plus trying to get certain railroad crossings is absolutely a pain in the neck! the other one is the appearance of those much dreaded "No Job" tags that appear over my buildings (Indicated by a suitcased in a red slash circle) and I had to unlease a tornado to wipe them out as oppose to see them go neglected and abandoned.
By playing style, "Simcity 4" Follows the same patterns in a lot of ways like the Simcity 2000 games. You lay down zones, let it be industrial, commercial, and or residential. You also have to manage the city's fiscal status as well, by making sure your city doesn't fall into the pits of debt, passing ordinances that benifit the city...at a cost, and making it thrive by fighting crime through police stations and jails, fighting fires by building fire stations and dispatching fire engines, and educating your citizens with schools, colleges, and museums along with numerous other things.
On a much more positive note this game is a HUGE quantum leap forward from Simcity 2000 in almost every way. Two main reasons for this. First, the actual details are stunning! Now buildings, and houses look like real structures and the street systems are much more realistic instead of looking like a hodgepodge of shapes like some of them did on SC 2000 from many years ago. The landscape looks so incredibly amazing too. Now it looks like a real actual landscape whether it be hilly, a peninsula, or plains, it's absolutely amazing! My favorite is elevated plains (I.E. Texas Panhandle) right next to large mountains (Going from Amarillo to around central New Mexico). Absolutely amazing!! The best part of this game too is not only the improvements on the graphics and landscapes but the background music. ALthough some may write it off as background music but some of the music for this game is so good that I would go the distance to say that it's actually rip-worthy! I never thought computer music would actually sound this good!! It sure sounds light years above the cheap pop fluff that most corporate recording studios seem to throw out like hamburger packaging. The sound effects too are absolute amazing to look it.
The disasters are the usual although there are a couple of new ones. My favorite is the "Robot Attack" where you can send down a ten story alien robot on your unsuspecting sims when they start getting out of dodge and throwing giant explosive dinner plates. The other new disaster is the volcano. Hey if you love the movie "Volcano" you will love this one too!!
While this game has it's shares of flaws, it doesn't keep this from being the best computer game that I've ever played in my life. Go and get this game. You will absolutely be loving it. Just be careful with the clock because you will be having so much fun that you won't realize that you've been losing sleep from playing this! It's that good!
Great game, if you can get past the bugs...

First off, I have to say the game it's self is great. All of the new features are great, the graphics are supurb, and the realism is unbelievable!
However, one possibly fatal drawback to this game is that it's already notorious for bugs. This is easily one of the least stable games I've ever played. And check out any Sim City 4 forum, I'm definitely not alone.
Even with a fast system (mine is a 2.4Ghz P4, 1024MB DDR ram, 128mb ATI video card), and even after doing all of the defrags and disk clean ups that the game recomends, the game crashes, hangs, and displays glitches constantly. Turning down shadows, cars, etc can help, but what's the fun in that??
While the game and it's graphics and features are great, this is definitely another prime example of EA releasing a game before it's ready, and your game play will suffer because of it. Maybe they'll release a patch some day...

I bought this game because I saw screenshots of it on amazon. It has fantastic graphics and wonderful sound but there are some set backs:
1.Extremely hard to make money
2.Services cost a lot of money monthly
3.Very Very Very slow on even the best computers
4.There is no unlimited money cheat like on SimCity 2000
5.No job zots drive me insane!
So overall only a so so game. Not worth the 39.99 I had to pay to buy it!:(

I had waited quite some time to play this game since it had been quite pricey, and yes I made a good decision to pick it up in thebargain bin. Th graphics and sound are stupendous, however it is basically impossible to make money. One keeps losing money all the time and I find it to be way to hard. The previous versions had all been improvements of prior versions of the game. To me this was a visual improvment but at the same time the gameplay suffered a major blow. I was so disapointed after having played if for a few hours and then making the drastic decison never to play it again...
Great graphics but VERY restricted options

All the Sim City games were better than the one before. With Sim City 4 it is great to see the stunning graphics and plethora of new parks, buildings etc. But, unlike previous Sim City games, with Sim City 4 you can't just slap a city together and let your imagination run riot, which I thought was the whole point of having Sim City. You must build up a city from scratch and carefully monitor your expenses. If you go just a little wild, you get fired as mayor. While this is fine, the lack of an option to play the game and see it's true potential without having to do it from the beginning each time is a major downer for this game. Sim CIty 3000 is better.

Number of complaints:
(1) Aside from the technical bugs and performance constraints (which are considerable), the game suffers from a ton of UI isssues (try reading the news flipper while the game is actually running),
(2) Succes in the game relies on a level of micromanagement that simply isn't fun (there's something fundamentally not right about a toy that fosters frustration and stress)
(3) The rules and simulation parameters aren't intuitive (how is anyone supposed to know that tax rates of 9.0% are neutral or that high density zones collect less taxes than low density zones?)
(4) The supplied documentation [is weak].
Unless you're a [real] Sim fanatic, I'd avoid this one.
Sim City 4 is awsome!
