WOW!

I just got this game today and this game is the best sim. game ever! There are over 13 crimes that randomly happan, like Tping on High/Medium house wealth type and Assaults! The game is rather hard though, starting with $100,000 and haveing monthly payments on roads and other items. Seeing police chase the crimanals in high speed chases are always fun. You control where diesesters happan as well which is a nice feature. The game itself is just fun!

The lag is a big problem...

There is no doubt that the graphics in Sim City 4 are better than those of SC 3000, but the lag you get in return is not worth the relatively puny graphic improvement. Originally, I thought the problem was my computer, but after meeting the requirements, defragging (and going on a deleting spree), and reading similar complaints at both Amazon and Simcity4.com, I'm disspaointed to realize that there is probably something wrong with the game.

Hopefully a patch will fix this...

This is a good game, it has great graphics, but if you don't have the exact system requirements (including the video cards supported), then the game won't work on your computer.

Very Dissapointing

I cant give this game any more than a 1 because its practically unplayable. The requirements for the game are incorrect. If u only meet the minimun then dont get this game because it barely runs. The minimum requirements should really be the recommended requirements. I had to play the game on my friends computer because it didnt work on mine, and even then it was slow on his. As for the actual game, its not as fun as the previous sim cities. Micromanagement is annoying and very stressful. There are many missing features such as the tall skycarepers, annoying bugs, and again, constant slow down. The game is not worth it.

The title is absolutely right! It is a simulation, but that's it! You can't enjoy the game because you have to constantly worry about how much you spending for road maintance or whatever else there is. Bah! I wanted a game to enjoy not a game to add my stress to my life! But if you're looking for a game with beautiful graphics then I recommend it!

What Happened???

Well, I bought the game yesterday, and let me jus tell you that I was really confused when I started playing, because, unlike in other sim city games, (2000, 3000, etc.) there weren't any model/ already built cities to play off of. So, it's all up to you. Now, this might sound good, and it might sound bad. But, I played for 4 hours WITH MONEY CHEATS and still only had 4,000 citizens. No skyscrapers, basically a big town filled with a lot of houses. Fortunately, I got some wealthy people to move in (those big houses are really beautiful.) But my point is, you want to see what's on the front of the box, a big, sprawling city, and it isn't offered in an already-built city. So, someone [messed] up. But, I like the game.... mostly. Great music!

The premise of the new installment of Maxis' Sim City is be God, be Mayor and play with your Sims. I have been debating whether or not to purchase this game since it was release and I finally bought it a few days ago. I haven't played it much during this time period, so bear with me I may update this after further game playing. First off let me warn those out there that have an aging computer system, don't get this game without first getting a new computer you will probably not have a good experience with this game. So if your not planning on upgrading to a Pentium 4 system, I would stick with 3000 Unlimited, great graphics or not, it is not worth having multiple headaches from technical problems and computer crashes.

Comparing this purchase to the one(6 months ago) that I bought the SimCity 3000 Unlimited, I have to say that I haven't played this one as much. Which can be due to a couple of factors: one being I don't have as much time now as I did then. Another reason is I was already familiar on what it needs to make a "successful" city, or at least I thought so.

This version of the game seems to me harder, even if they give you more money to work with. However I guess that inflation has hit Sim City (I guess that Sim Nation's economy is taking a hit like our real world). The monuments and famous land marks are no longer free, and they put a dent in your City's budget. In fact other things seem more expensive with this game including the price of it. I would have to take out loans to be able to pay for my other loan payments...which on average would cost about S 30,000 per fiscal year...kind of hard to do when you have a city income of about S 1,500. Needless to say that I have been impeached sooner with this version then the last:)

However not all is bad, the graphics are great and it is cool seeing the Sims actually building. Some complaints that I had about the old version were: difficult to get farms and seaports started. This is resolved in this version as is my problem with the airport zoning. For both the airports and seaports they are prefabricated in this game...meaning they are more expensive to build and maintain, but at least it looks nice. As for as the farm or argiculture zoning...they are specifically zoned for no longer do you have the chance of factories building on the low industrial zones. In the "god" mode of the game (before you switch to mayor mode) there is more options to how you want the geography of your city, plus you can put animals such as horses and deer. Once you have switched to mayor mode, you can go back to god mode, but your options are reduced. There are new disasters, a giant Servo on the loose to distory parts of the city. As for the option to play with your Sims... Let's just say that this feature will need some work. The most that you do with your Sims is move them into their first house. They do give feed back as to what your doing wrong and what is going right for them. I had one Sim complain that she didn't like having to drag her kids across town to school.

So over all I am ho-hum about Sim City 4, but not totally disappointed with my purchase. I recommend this game if you have (1) a fairly new system <1 year old (2) if you thought that playing the odler versions were to one dementional, with the Sims living in your city they give you feedback, and let you know what it is like to live there. Even though you don't have the control over them like in The Sims.

This game is so fun! Here are the best features in the game... The way you can play as a god. Scupling mountains, planting forests, and animals. I always thought simcities were just plain boring, then I got mine, and WOW! This thing got me hooked, I was hook on "S". I thought to myself I need to quit this is worse than drugs. But I didn't this is just the beginning...

The Almost Perfect City Simulator

Once you get the hang of this game, it becomes a lot of fun! More fun than any previous version, and not just because of the cute graphics. At first, it feels the same as SimCity 3000, but you eventually discover that there are important differences behind the scenes: The internal algorithms that drive the city's development have been reworked to run more realistically. (SC 3000 was more "fantasy-based", in my opinion.) But, you never have to delve into too many complicated details to enjoy it! Once you understand a few zoning concepts, the game is very intuitive.

My computer is fast enough to handle it, most of the time, but those who attempt to run the game at its minimum requirements might suffer. There are also some visual bugs to work out, but none have been detrimental: Sometimes cars, trains and pedestrians run over each other. Sometimes traffic signals and train crossing arms do not sync properly, but these are purely visual anomalies, and do not really affect the game. Sometimes, ugly dark bars appear in the middle of large cities, but they seem to go away soon enough.

Some important new features include controllable disasters, true agriculture zones, improved terraforming tools, distinction of streets from roads, and better visual feedback with props and "zots".

The most annoying thing about SimCity 4 is that it forces a new "Region" system on you. This makes it more difficult to load cities from other sources, and it lacks a "Save As" feature. I also wish they had more starter towns.

Overall I am very pleased with the product. But, I guess you just can't have everything.

Could never get off the ground

This is overall a great game, but is kinda hard. I could never get my city off the ground, even with doing the same things the manual told me to do. Word from word. It seems that the game just didn't do as the manual or EA games had predicted. I am actually pretty sure that those screenshots are CGI. I did the expansion pack, and that made it more fun, but the same problem. I do recomend this game, but for the stragety game tipe, and ndot the space sim player that I am.
