DEFECTIVE! Do not purchase this product!

The peripherals on this game are complete junk. Just read the rockband forums and you can see how many people are having problems with this game.

My guitar was defective out of the box, so I went through the warranty replacement process and received a second guitar that stopped working after about 40 minutes (one of the frets registers as permanently down)

I have seen MANY other reports of people having similar problems. This product was obviously rushed to market with many known defects and should be recalled.

Fun, but many many problems.

While being a lot of fun this game causes much frustration setting up. Half the time we can't get the microphone to register properly with a controller. The guitar is unbelievably poor compared to guitar hero. Unlike the guitar hero version, it has an on/off switch that if on the back of the guitar. If you forget to turn this off your batteries will be dead overnight. When the guitar goes dead I can't even start a game with the vocals and drummer because I can't seem to find a way to get the guitar out of the band. This game is also a lot less forgiving than guitar hero on timing. I tend to hit notes early a lot more often and miss them from being too early. Overall guitar hero is 100x better than this due to all the shortcomings.

Excellent Game Marred by Defective Guitar

I was excited when I was informed that the Rock Band Bundle had shipped, as my roommate and I were eagerly anticipating its arrival. After we unpackaged it and set it up, we played for around 5 hours which is surprising since my roommate typically only plays the Sims 2. She was into the game as much as me and I highly recommend that everyone give this game a try, even if you don't have a strong musical background. Anyway, this game doesn't need much of a description, as we all know what the package consists of for the most part, and I can honestly say that it is one of the best games that I've ever played, although it has one major issue that others have mentioned: the guitar.

The reports that have been coming out about the faulty guitars are true, which is unfortunate. After only a few hours of use (yes, my roommate and I were respectful and gentle with the guitar), the guitar's downstrum started to malfunction and it started to double register notes. For instance, when I went to play a note, it would sometimes register as two or three, or sometimes not at all. The upstrum continued to work fine, but it's impossible to play a song (and boring as well) without using both the upstrum and downstrum. I cannot believe that this hardware is so poor considering this bundle is quite costly. Were there not any stress tests of the equipment, or was this game just another example of a rushed game for the Holiday shopping season? It's irritating, but in all fairness, Harmonix/EA are replacing faulty guitars for free, although you have to provide them with a credit card (for collateral) to receive a new guitar and the return box for the damaged one. Believe me, a majority of users have reported this problem, which is quite unfortunate. Although I have the PS3 version, I've heard that this issue is also present on the Xbox 360 version due to the strumming mechanism being the same on both versions.

On the bright side, the drums and microphone work great, and this game is incredible. While I know some may feel as though my 2 star review is unwarranted, remember for a moment how much this game costs. Although the guitar will be replaced for free, my point is that this issue should never have existed in the first place. With that being said, I do recommend this game to everyone, but just know that you will probably have to send in your guitar to get it replaced with a non-defective model.

Buyer beware.

Rock Band Concerns

We bought this game for our Grandson for Christmas..it is a great game and lots of fun but very poorly made. The guitar stopped working..the drum foot pedal broke the first few days.

We contacted the company (as was stated on the box) and received a complaint number and no further contact!! We called Amazon and you took great care of us. You sent us a whole new set at no charge and we are thrilled with your care for your customers!!

The second foot pedal has since broken!! It is so poorly made and of light plastic. Our Grandson has found a site on the internet selling wooden replacement foot pedals for around $30..guaranteed not to break!! We are thankful for that but it is a dirty shame that this should have to be an extra purchase to be able to use the game!!

Thank you for helping us and please do get after this company..they are terribly disappointing and unconcerned about their customers!!

Great game - Major flaw

The game is great...I mean really great, but there is one MAJOR flaw....

The drum set pedal broke....just now...snapped...

At the base there is this little dot...and smack dab through it I now have a huge crack...''It is no longer usable....at all...

I now have to either figure out how to rig it, or send it in for a replacement...this is cheap plastic molding and will not hold any serous drumming...

I don't really play the guitar much, but I suspect it has the smae weakness...they just feel...cheap...

If not for this the game would have gotten 4 stars....no Hendrix.....extra songs are extremely expensive, and they don't count toward your global ranking at all.....lame...PLUS you cant play them with anyone else unless THEY buy them too! LAME!

Edit: Just an update, there are kits out there to repair the pedal or replacement guitars that are much sturdier. I would definitely suggest investing in those things at the same time as buying this game, or you will spend a long time doing the broken item return tango with the company.

Who is to blame? Activision or Harmonix

Let me first say this, I played this game a few times at my friends house on his Xbox 360 and it was great. I have Guitar Hero III for my Playstation 3 and I have 2 Les Paul wireless controllers, So I decided to buy this game for my PS3 and sell the Rock Band guitar...BAD IDEA, I bought the product on amazon so I had 2 days to wait for my game to come in the mail. I purchased the songs I wanted ahead of time and I received my Rock Band and i'm hyped up and ready to play...then BAM I find out the Les Paul Guitar Hero wireless guitars are not compatible with Rock Band because Activision and Harmonix are both greedy and both want money. This pisses me off because I have to shell out another $50+ to get another guitar for Rock Band if I want to enjoy a full band. So if I keep Rock Band I will have to have 4 guitars in total. One for GH3 and one for RB. I like the GH3 guitars much better but it all comes down to money.

If you own GH3 and plan to buy this game, be prepared to shell out more money for an extra guitar. This game is really fun but this incompatibility issue drops the overall rating for this game. Get the Xbox 360 version if you have a 360.

better finds else where

The product has an hand fun of problems. I received this product and found a broken foot pedal, like i wouldn't notice. the guitar is glitched. The only item that worked just fine was the mic, but it isn't really good to begin with. If you decide to purchase this game i say go some place like walmart or a gamestop/crazy and get the warranty. DO NOT BUY FROM THIS GUY/GAL!!!!!!!

Excellent Drum Kit, disappointing guitar controller

I, like most fans of the Guitar Hero series, have been anticipating the arrival of this game since I first learned of its development back in July. When I first saw the photos of the guitar controller I became ecstatic. It looked like the guitar controller I have always wanted since I actually own a real Stratocaster made to the Eric Clapton "Blackie" design. The controller looks almost exactly like my real guitar! So with that combined with the fact that the game was created by the original development team fir Guitar Hero I and II, Needless to say I was quivering with anticipation.

The is no doubt that the guitar gameplay is very similar to the Guitar Hero series. For some reason though, I seem to have a harder time focusing on the notes in Rock Band since they are little rectangles instead of fat circles like in GH. But the song list is amazing and that certainly makes up for some cons. However there is one thing I cannot get over:

The Guitar controller sucks. There. I said it. The construction of the unit is just the cheapest of cheap plastic. When you are playing it, you feel as though you have to be careful not to break it. Yeah, the buttons are designed better in my opinion but the plastic actually bends under minimal pressure. WTF!?!?! And while I was excited about the buttons on the lower fretboard for solos, they are almost too narrow to be played by average adult hands. So now I will find myself plugging in my GH3 controller for Rock Band.
But there is a huge plus side: The drums. They are just incredibly fun to play. And while they may not be built like real drums but rather electonic drumpad abominations from the 1980's they seem as though they can stand up to some abuse. They are pretty hard to rock out to on the advanced levels making them a fun and addicting challenge. I have a good friend who is a drummer and he picked them up and did amazing on his first go do they are pretty realistic as you can get. The developers claim that if you can play the drums on expert level on the game than you are basically playing drums for real. Pretty neat.
The mic. I think this is alright. Works well but seems to almost force you to not sing in your natural singing voice. Instead they really want you to sound like the person singing the original song. Hard to sing like Roger Daultry one song and then switch to Billy Corgan the next. This feature seems to be almost designed for parties.
All in all a solid game. The song list is great and does not disappoint. Like I said, I just found the guitar controller and game play to be a letdown. At least the drums are great. But hey, you may feel differently. Have fun with it.

Fun Game, Flimsy Parts

Let's get right down to the basics. If you are familiar with Guitar Hero, this is pretty much the same thing with an expanded play set that includes vocals and drums. Vocals are similar to the Karoke games and do require an ability to sing on key. If you like Guitar Hero and/or Karoke Revolution, you will like this game. That said, I will get on to the product advisory.

1.) The set list is HUGE. It includes more than is listed in the product description and is far too expansive to capture on one list. The downfall is that it does not seem to have any real way of identifying the difficulty of the current song in career mode, at times. This is unfortunate as failures cost you.

2.) The set includes only ONE guitar but, the guitar can be used on Guitar Hero and the Guitar Hero 3 controller can be used for the game.

3.) The guitars are a bit on the flimsy side and are prone to breakage after about 20 or so hours of play. They do not click like the GH controllers but, they are not nearly as robust.

4.) You will need to put some kind of steel plate on the drum pedal. It is a plastic pedal that will crack if you start getting a little too firm.

Yeah, its loads of fun and everyone is going to want it for Christmas but, you will end up with broken parts by New Year. Do yourself a favor and either get extended warranties and/or wait until they address the problems and make a sturdier set.

You have been warned.

Great game, poor controllers

Rock band is a great improvement over Guitar Hero games. It is fun to play however the controllers do not quite meet the expectations and can take away from your overall fun factor.

My drum set had a faulty pad right out of the box and had to wait 2 weeks to get the replacement. The online replacement procedure was very simple and quick yet was too good to be true as seen in the result. Guitar controller looks and feels great, hope it does not die on me soon. No problems with the mic so far. As can be seen on the EA's support forum posts, a good number of people are having problems with their controllers which makes me think that the controllers suffer from lack of quality control.

Another thing to mention is that the drum pads are extremely noisy when you tap on them with the wooden sticks. If you don't have the volume up on your TV set, it is a good chance that you will only hear your tapping on the drums rather than the music or the notes you are playing. Some people are even sticking foam and felt sheets on their drum pads to reduce the tapping noise.
