Awesome game for music lovers

I absolutely love this game, and if you are into music, you will too. There is a great song collection, and the downloadable content has also been very good so far.

The only complaint I have is the lead guitar. I'm not sure if it's just my guitar, but it felt musch stiffer than the one that came with Guitar Hero 2 & 3. It's not too bad, but I do notice i have to hit it a little harder.

The drums are pretty challenging, and if you have never played before, it takes some getting used to. Making your arms and legs do different things out of sequence is just unnatural, so you have to train yourself.
Once again, great game, and I would definitely buy it again.

What a game with disappointment

Ok...Bought this after I bought Guitar Hero 3 and I was a little disappointed about Rock Band....One might think that after spending 169.00 plus to get this game that 'EVERYONE" wants and then find out it doesn't all work!!! I'm giving this a 5 star just because it looks like it will be a blast to really play and all if we can get a set that will actually work..meaning the 'DRUMS'!!!! Got everything plugged in, put together and then ready for the drums..and what happened...the drums worked for maybe 45 seconds and then quit! Tried it over and over and it kept doing the same thing. Boy..was all us fuming!!! After reading some reviews it seems like this happens to other ppl too. So after working hard for my money and then purchasing this gift for our son...I have to say...I was disappointed in it...He has been really wanting this and couldn't wait and this happens...AT Least Guitar Hero 3 worked just fine with no problems...Having the PS3 has been a great thing...but Rock Band really disappointed us!!! Oh just found out by someone that works for Walmart...three sets were brought back by 9 this am cause the drums wouldn't work in all of these! Have a friend that bought one...opened their box..and the game was missing, the foot peg for the drums wasn't there and the controller was gone...boy..what a mess!

And party everyday..

I wasn't planning on purchasing rock band, but christmas brought a little persuasion in the form of gift cards, so I went ahead and picked it up.

First of all, I was a little annoyed at the lack of paperwork for this game, as not everything is intuitive..I couldn't find a manual aside from how to put together the drums and guitar(duh?). When we first started playing I was navigating with the guitar, and we couldn't figure out how to get the microphone to work. It makes sense I suppose, since the mic has no buttons on it, that you need a controller, but it could've been mentioned somewhere (had to look online), since not everyone will think of that right off the bat.

Secondly, I'm very annoyed that right now I have no options for my PS3 to get a bass guitar other than buying the ENTIRE special edition again. Waiting a few months to complete the "band" or wasting $120 (figure guitar will cost 60) is beyond stupid. In fact, if anything, for at least the xbox 360 owners this is actually motivation for people to buy Guitar Hero 3, just for the guitar, rather than spending the money on a Harmonix released individual guitar...oh well, on to the game itself.

Guitar:
Having played through GTH2 on xbox 360, I was worried about some of the reviews for the Rock Band Guitar. Having used it now though, it seems fine, I'm accustomed to the strum "bar" clicking on a strum, so the spongy feeling strum on the RB guitar took some getting used to, but I didn't mind how the buttons felt at all, and anyone who's never played a game like this at all I'm sure won't care.
Drums:
This game takes up a ton of room, mostly due to the drum kit, which consists of 4 pads and a pedal which acts as the bass drum. Honestly when you get flowing with the bass and pads, playing the drums feels awesome. My only complaint is that the tapping on the drums tends to drown out the drum sounds in the actual game, ah well, crank it up I guess!
MIC:
Haven't tried it on harder settings, but on the lower settings I know the mic only works with tone recognition, so as long as you hum/sing/gargle the right pitch for the right length of time, you're good to go. Pretty sure the mic is set up just like any of the karaoke games to recently hit the market (i.e. singstar)
GAME/SONG:
Popped this open last night and we all got sucked in right away, even though there's not a _ton_ of variation on character looks, you can still get a character that looks somewhat like yourself. We made our band and proceeded to blow through a few hours like nothing, definitely a fun party game. Rock Band includes the addition of "solos" wherein you can play whatever you want, fun stuff. Aside from that plays almost exactly like guitar hero, at least at lower difficulties. Lots of character aesthetic customizations as well i.e. makeup/clothes/jewelry/tattoos/instruments etc etc.

At this stage in the game for this genre of game I'm still disappointed with song selections. IMHO these companies should implement some type of game registration that allows integration of songs from older version of the game into the new one. I guess since Rock Band is the first of this series, the point is moot, but the fact that you get 40 songs + a handful of downloaded songs (that you pay for) to choose from truly feels like it's done just to milk more money from the customer. I don't think the songs themselves are actually that hard to program, if they could expand their song base a ton and pay royalties whenever a song is downloaded i.e. napster that would make me 100% satisfied.

All in all, great, addicting game.

My fiancee and his friends and our neighbors love this game, if you have kids they will love it. I know my 2 two yr olds love it too. Needs some work, somethings are crappy our guitar broke with in 1 weeks use, we talked to friend they said its normal just takes a week for a new one. Also could be done better with the indentation on the keys to help guide you. Maybe next time they will raise the separation's on the keys...... Maybe they will make it easier to get an extra guitar too because we want an extra. :)

Rock Band on the PS3 was a big hit with the family over Christmas break. It provides hours of entertainment and allows for multiple players working in a co-operative mode instead of a competitive one. The game allows each player to select their level of difficultly so that actual musicians and vocalists can actually take roles that are hard enough to provide them a challenge as well.

The older folks really enjoyed the 70's-90's tracks while young kids who had never heard these songs found them musically challenging. Likewise newer songs tended to see the reverse. This game will stay relevant as long as you can continue to purchase more tracks on the PS Network (I've already added more than 20 additional songs) and that the addition of newer/nearly current releases make it into the Playstation store as well.

Bought Rock Band for PS3, as a Christmas Gift for our--believe it or not-- 24 year old son. In fact it was the only gift that he asked us for, and let me tell you, he and his younger twin brothers had a blast. By Christmas night, all five of the children (30, 28, 24, 15 & 15), plus two son-in-laws, (30, 31) and three grandchildren, (8, 7, & 1) were all upstairs in the room having a blast! Literally, they were at it the entire 3 days that the oldest son was home. Now they all want the game. I would definitely say the game was a success, even if a bit pricey. Watching them all have so much fun, made it well worth the price! I would buy it again.Rock Band Special Edition

I love it but I don't think my playstation does.

I have loved this game from the first time I sat in the store and played it. I bought it on the spot and brought it home. I was so excited when I played my first song using the drum kit and my wife on guitar. Immediately following the first song the playstation 3 said the disc was damaged or dirty and stopped playing, so I checked the brand new disc and it was still in mint condition, but alas, my playstation 3 from that point on would not even recognize and other game discs, dvd's or cd's. I took the system back which I had only had for 4 days at that point and exchanged it for a new one. It ran fine, and we rocked out hard for about 2 weeks and then one day It stopped and said the disc was damaged or dirty. The air was immediately expunged from my lungs and I almost crapped my pants. I checked the disc and it was still in mint condition. I put it back in the machine, with fingers crossed, and it would not recognize any game discs, dvd's or cd's from that point on. UGH! I took the machine back and sent the game back to EA to get a replacement copy, I am now on the third PS3 and am waiting for the replacement copy for Rock Band we will see what happens, I love this gamne so much that I would be willing to take my ps3 back and exchange it every 4-14 days if necessary just to keep on rocking! Let's hope third times a charm...

Nearly epic (things I want in the sequel)

Expectations were high and for the most part Rock Band has delivered despite its smaller sales ratio to GHIII (to be expected with the price range differences). My Strat came with the flubby strum bar issue which EA support took care of and the new one seems fine. RB has a nice diverse range of tunes that showcase each instrument and taste range, what I would like to see in the next one is different set lists for each instrument making it a richer less reptitive experience as you play through each. My other problem with RB is the lack of high score keeping locally on my PS3 for those of us that don't or can't take our consoles online. Finally I really expected a freeplay type mode for the DRUMS as alot of us did and to not have just included a blank track for us to play openly with seems like an oversight or a malicious omission.
The good news is after you get used to it the instruments are sturdy and fun to play and this game absolutely soars in local multiplayer mode where it is sure to bring people closer together musically than a karaoke machine ever has. HARMONIX please consider open mic and freeplay drum mode for the next release, and you know we want all those downloadable tracks on a disc for those of us who can't take our consoles online. Recommended for free spirits, rhythm game and music fans alike just don't expect too much from the package and you won't be disappointed.

I thought Guitar Hero was fun the first time I played it, but after playing Rock Band, I don't think I'll ever look at Guitar Hero again. Invest your money in a fun experience and purchase Rock Band.
I can't say anything bad about this game.
