OK, so I also LOVED Rock Band! My son (13yrs) and brother-in-law (36) and I (30something) spent hours Christmas morning rocking out! It was a great music list and lots of fun building up a fan base. Sadly the guitar broke on Day 2. No reason, it just stopped working. Also I thought the Guitar Hero guitar should be compatible only to learn xmas morning it would NOT work (boo!). We are sending in for the replacement, but what a downer during xmas vacation. Also, our cousin's drum set didn't work. The replacement web site is set up well, but we're a little worried other parts will soon start to break.
Great fun for a family...

Ok...first, we are just your normal household. Mom, Dad and two boys (10 and 8) who get a kick out of playing games together. Well, Rock Band has been a hit since we opened it. Everyone can play at some level.
Pros: Good graphics, great song list, easy set up, easy start up, drums seem strong, drum sticks are real, solo frets on guitar, mic is durable and playing as a group is awesome.
Cons: Guitar strum bar is weak (broke within two days but EA was very quick to respond and sending replacement), volume controls for instruments not adjustable enough, no storage for drum sticks, mic or guitar stand (one on the drum kit would be a nice way to keep the whole kit together) and not being able to get second guitar/bass right away.
Overall this is a terribly addicting game for everyone. I understand the appeal to teens and 20 somethings, but we (40ish) love it. There are additional songs available for purchase online which will be very cool. With the exception of the guitar issue, I would give this a 5 star rating. EA did own up to problems with the initial run of guitars and claim to have corrected it for the new release and replacement ones. Hopefully this is true. We hope to enter into a local competition as a family. Can't wait to see the kids faces when we walk through the door and rock to the Beastie Boys - Sabotage!!!
Thank you!! Good night!!!

First of all, Rock Band is great when everything is working properly. You will blow many hours on this game with your friends and family. The game, sound, graphics and music are top notch. The Drums and Mic are great, but the quirk problem is the guitar. For the PS 3 you have only one option for the guitar and thats the one EA makes. The Guitar Hero 3 guitar for PS 3 won't work until they have a patch which is in limbo because of a legal battle. The Guitar has issues with strumming and connecting. My guitar lasted about 4 days before giving out. I went online to read on EA and the net about the problems with these guitars. EA will give a replacement, but how long for that process? Might want to have a second one on hand just because of the problems. Batteries seem to drain quickly, might want to get a battery extender/ charger for the guitar alone. If you have a PS2, get Rock Band for that system, at least you will have more guitar options. Wish I had known earlier about that. I heard XBOX 360 Guitar Hero 3 works with that system. I hope some generic wired guitars come out for PS 3 so I won't need batteries. In the meantime, I have a preorder on another guitar as a backup. At least, I can keep switching for new ones with EA until they resolve the problem with these things. What a headache...
Rock Band Takes Music Gaming To The Next Level

As a big fan of the Guitar Hero line, I was skeptical at first about Rock Band, and thought the sound of adding drums and vocals was kind of dumb. I should have had more faith in the folks at Harmonix because they have created a game that takes music gaming to a whole new level.
Rock Band really hits its peak at parties, or when you can get enough people together to fill out a band (especially if you can scrape up another guitar controller to play bass). I always liked Cooperative Mode in Guitar Hero, but Rock Band's Band World Tour mode just blows my mind. And you can play individual songs with people online, which is cool. (Too bad you can't do a full Band World Tour online just yet. Maybe there will be a patch for that...)
The song list for Rock Band is totally awesome, and getting better. The songs that come with the game span several decades and genres, and the downloadable content is great. Plus, Harmonix has already announced that they'll continually be adding more songs. Hear a song on the radio today, play it on Rock Band tomorrow.
In general, I really like the controllers. I've read that the very first batch of guitars had quality issues, but I've played with two different Rock Band guitars and both were well made. The design is bigger than the GH guitars, which is good for me as I am a big guy with big hands. My one fault with the guitar is that the secondary fret buttons are so small, there is no way that I can play them, but gameplay does not require you to use them.
Contrary to some other reviews, PS3 owners cannot use GH guitars in Rock Band or vice versa. Rumors of a patch have been circulating, but nothing concrete so far.
In summary, Rock Band is a great game. If you liked Guitar Hero, you'll love Rock Band. The solo mode is good, but the band mode is frickin' awesome. Plus the quality and variety of the song list is phenomenal, and growing all the time with additional downloadable songs. Crank it up at your next party and rock out!
If you love Guitar Hero, you'll love this!

Rock Band takes everything Guitar Hero has and kicks it into Overdrive. Playing the Guitar is not as challenging as in GH, but the fun is still there. The Drums is where Rock Band really shines and is what will provide the most challenge. All of this is just Single Player. If you play with a full band, this game can blow GH away with it's fun factor. It's so much better to get everyone involved, especially if you have someone brave enough to sing! The music is top notch. I honestly can't say there's a song I don't like. Even songs I haven't listened to or cared about for years become cool again once my friends and I "play" them for real. Also, Rock Band comes out with new Downloadable content all the time. If you don't mind paying for them, there are 50 songs available right now (Feb 8th) and 12 more in the month of March. The Who, Nirvana and Metallica have all said that they will provide entire albums for download as well, but no dates on those.
Overall, if you want the next level of what Guitar Hero offers and you have a lot of friends, this is a must have.

We bought this game for our Grandson for Christmas..it is a great game and lots of fun but very poorly made. The guitar stopped working..the drum foot pedal broke the first few days.
We contacted the company (as was stated on the box) and received a complaint number and no further contact!! We called Amazon and you took great care of us. You sent us a whole new set at no charge and we are thrilled with your care for your customers!!
The second foot pedal has since broken!! It is so poorly made and of light plastic. Our Grandson has found a site on the internet selling wooden replacement foot pedals for around $30..guaranteed not to break!! We are thankful for that but it is a dirty shame that this should have to be an extra purchase to be able to use the game!!
Thank you for helping us and please do get after this company..they are terribly disappointing and unconcerned about their customers!!
More fun than the law should allow

I've had this game less than 24 hours, and I'm already prepared to call it the best game ever. I never thought I could enjoy anything more than guitar hero, but this has done it. That drum controller is ridiculous fun. I've also played guitar and sang at the same time on a few songs. I own a real mic stand, so I was able to set it up. I've enjoyed guitar hero and karaoke revolution, so this is combining those games for me, plus adding that drum set! I did have to put in some time calibrating for the lag caused by my DLP TV, but once I did everything worked superbly. So if you're having trouble with the rhythm, spend a little time working that out. I can't wait to play it for hours and hours and hours...
The big questions will be:
1 - Will the hardware hold up
2 - Will the downloadable content come through, and will it be reasonably priced.
3 - Will the online play deliver.
If this game comes through on these counts, this could very well go down as my favorite game of all time.

If you were one of the few lucky people able to buy this product when it was in stock, then you already know how fun this game is. The fact that many stores did not stock the ps3 version of this game makes this game even more rare. The gameplay is an upgrade from guitar hero, and is really fun. The drums have to be my favorite because not only are they the most fun to play but they are also the most engaging. The microphone is another cool aspect that when thrown in at a party makes beer drowned voices even better. I recommend this game to everyone, expecially because new songs are coming out every week!
Gameplay-10

Visuals-10
The only thing i am not happy with is that individual guitars will not be available until febuary so you will have no bass player until then. But i love the game besides that fact.

It is everything all in one! Buy this for your kids and they will love you!! My kids have never owned GH games and are not into Rock but they are blown away by this game! It is fun for the entire family!! ALSO we own all the systems and decided to purchase it on PS3 due to the guitar being WIRELESS! (Xbox is a wired guitar) I'm not worried about any snags comming up in the system, like everything else the company always improvise with updates. (we heard it all last year when PS3 was released!PLEASE!) JUST HAVE FUN!!
Great Game with Great Potential

A disclaimer to start: I've never played any of the Guitar Hero games, and I cannot offer an opinion as to how this compares to them. Rock Band is my first foray into the world of virtual rock stardom.
The Good: This is one of the most fiendishly addictive games I've ever played. My "band" had a case of just-one-more-song syndrome that kept us up till 4 am the day we unpacked this. The song list is impressive, with classics like "Paranoid" to appeal to dinosaurs like me through brand new hits like "Here it Goes Again" for the younger set. New songs are already available to download at the Playstation Store and more content is promised. The tutorials walk you through all the game mechanics, so even though I'd never played any prior guitar games I was able to jump right in. The drum kit is amazing, great fun to play and sturdy enough to withstand use by an adult. I've read in several places that if you can run the drums on expert difficulty you can essentially play the drums for real, and I have no problem believing that. Avatar customization adds another little fun element to it.
The Bad: With the wide range of songs it's almost guaranteed that there's going to be something in there you don't like, and as far as I can tell there's no way to skip songs in career mode. In solo mode I'd like to be able to customize the look of my whole band, instead of just my own avatar, and keep a consistent lineup.
The Ugly: You've read it before and I'm telling you it's true... the guitar controller sucks. It's not very solid, the buttons are kind of mushy, the strummer misses notes now and then and the lower-fret controls are useless for any but the smallest hands. (UPDATE: after four days of use the strummer gave out completely and I had to request a replacement from EA) Also, since the game only ships with one guitar the only way to put a full band together (vocals, drums, lead and bass) is to have a friend who's also bought the game come over and bring his axe along. Fortunately, with all the frustrated internet chatter about this issue I'm sure that some 3rd party controllers will be available before too long, or perhaps an improved Sony model. As it is now the guitar is the only thing standing between this game and a five star rating from me.
Overall: for anyone who loves to air-guitar but lacks the time (or talent) to learn the real thing this game is awesome. The price is steep but worth it.
Props to Amazon: they gave me a 6-week shipping estimate and delivered the game 36 hours later. AND it's covered by Amazon Prime shipping. Nice work guys!
