Like most games the difficulty level is absolutely ridiculous. Need a game that non experts can beat.
AI is too good!

If you liked something like Deus Ex, then you may like this game. I actually was expecting a fast paced FPS like Half-Life 2, Call of Duty 2, or Battlefield 2. This game has those elements in it, but it's more storyline based where you talk to people, have missions, and get money to buy/trade items. I think of it as an RPG + FPS
I found that the action is difficult because the AI is very good at killing you. I play on normal difficulty settings. The weapons are also very weak and it takes about a full clip to kill the AI, unless you get a lucky head shot which is not easy to do. The movement compared to other FPS like Battlefield 2, Half-Life 2, Call of Duty 2, is very slow in this game. I supposed it creates a sense of realism.
I lost interest in this game after a few days of playing. I just got too frustrated with the AI being too good, the slow movements, and random radiation mine fields in tunnels and outdoors with which you die if you touch them.
Graphics and sound is nice, but I don't care about those details too much. I just want good and fun game play. Maybe when things slow down in my life and when I have more time, I will try this game again. For now, it's going back in my shelf.
My specs to play this smoothly:
Pentium 4 3.2Ghz
2GB RAM
Nvidia 7800GS AGP video card
1680x1050 resolution - low graphics settings
Bugs ruin this game. Wait for more updates

A potentially fantastic game ruined by a too early release.
If you buy this game you will be paying to be a Beta Tester.
I've installed two updates and it still has serious problems.

This game has very good graphics and detail with weather patterns. But that is all that is good about the game. A whole lot of reading and not a lot of action.
Just O.K.

I was disappointed in the game engine, but it's still ok for people who aren't used to better games like Battlefield 2 or Half-Life 2
don't waste your money

I looked forward to this game and waited thru all the delays. they should have delayed another year. aside from the bug problems, the game just sucks all by itself. when a game thinks it's being challenging by bringing NPCs up behind you to attack from an area you just spent a lot of time and ammo clearing, that tells me how weak the game play is. so I spent $50 for a game that is selling for $20 6 months later now that everyone knows how much it sucks. THQ has gotten their last dollar out of me. FOAD
Worthless product

This game takes place in Russia and was written by Russians that have no idea how to write a game. Actually, this is just a sorry excuse for a game. The game is fundamentally flawed-EVEN after it gets patched. And the patches will keep coming. Don't waste your money. I would have rated this a negative 4 stars, if I could have.

I am not new to pc gaming and I always figure there will be an couple of hours of problems and patches like a lot of games have. I've always been able to work through them in the past with other games. The problem with STALKER is that when it crashes you have to unplug your machine, or at least I did. After at least 6 hours trying to make the game run for more than 10 minutes without crashing, I gave up. I just don't have any more time to waste on it. I won't send it back to Amazon I'll just eat it. The little I was able to play looked like a fun game that I wish I could play. But until they come out with another patch or something, it simply is unplayable. Of course this is just one case. Your experience may very.
the AI enemy guns have better range, the game needs patched or mod to fix

couple things make this game unjoyable
i like the world of chernobyl , worth the price of the game, but its not like other fps, its anoying that they could fix this stuff if the company would release patch to fix the hit detection of the weapons...the AI weapons are longer range and take less bullets to kill you, you forced to fire sevel shoots to the head close range, forget about the sniper rifles they are dum, takes too many shots to kill , i scoped a head shot and enemy AI has a crap pistal and killed me hundred feet away wtf?
lame RPG posing as an FPS

Walk around. Die of radiation. Walk around. Die of radiation.
This game is too complicated (like Bioshock) to be enjoyable. Game makers should take cues from Half-Life, Crysis and COD 4 which are exciting but you don't have to read the manual over and over and over and still not figure it out.
This game sucks.
