Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 is very cool for both the scenery types, roller coaster types, and also geust pleaser types. You can play all different ways too! There is a roller coaster director, which is pretty cool, although kind of weird the way everything is black except roller coasters. And there is the scenario director. This is my favorite aspect. You can pretty much anything. You can set the money, and everything. I know that my mom and dad were also happy the way you get business knowledge while playing this game. One of the cool things about this game is that you can take it to the max. The guests think so many different things, you can see what their fave ride is and everything. I would definetley recommend this game to anyone who is rady for a cahllenge! So play YOUR way and get RCT2! :-) rach*
Great Game

Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 is a great game for anyone who likes roller coasters and amusement parks and it is also good for anyone who likes tyccon games. The main point of the game is to built a theme park, built rides, built shops, hire people to work for you and get money. It sound easy but it is no. And it isn't too hard where you stay there a day trying to figure out how to play it. RCT2 is better then the first one because it has more rides and because it has rides and parks from Six Flags. I would give this game to someone from 8-18. You can even built roller coasters with the custom ride tool instead of using the track designs they give you.

If you played RCT 1 and you like these somewhat actionless but highly thought provoking games, you'll like this one too. This game is not for the Grand Theaft Auto set but instead caters to those who like to think through their Simulation games. It's not difficult to learn and play, and it offers endless option and tasks to carry out to make your park friendly, clean and something your little folks want to visit.
Go wild with your own roller coaster design but not too wild, if it doesn't pass testing, you should'n open it or risk harm to your park visitors, is the park getting messy with trash and puke, hire more handy men to stay ahead of the mess, do your visitors need to pee, build a bathroom, is the price of food and goodies too expensive, set a more reasonable price. As you can see, this is micro management at its best.
I can't say enough about the look and play of this game, but I can say that if it's shoot em up fast paced action you're after you need to find another game. If I could add one feature to this game to possibly make it better, it would be a front car view of what it would be like to ride your rides, other than that, I suggest you give it a try. I bought this as a Gold Box special for about [$$$]
Post script several years later: RTC 3 in 3D allows you to ride and the play element is still there but being a purist of sorts, 1 and 2 still better.
Loads of fun!!!

This game is so addicting creating an amusement park, rollercoasters and watching guests ride the rides you designed or premade coasters. Guest get off a ride and if they have a low nausea level they will get sick and then you have to get a handyman to clean up the mess. Vandals will bust up yur park benches (even the stone ones!) so you need security guards to protect your property. Rides break down and even catch on fire so you need maintence men to repair and inspect rides. Guest get hungry and need to use the restroom you can even hear the toilets flush, how funny! You will spend hours playing this game, even to wee hours in the morning and go to work on very little sleep. I am looking foward to rollercoaster tycoon 3 !
Its Baaaackk!!

Roller Coaster Tycoon is back and better than ever. This time it will combine rides from Six Flags Like Viper, De JA Vu, Goliath, and probably X (if we're lucky) RCT is truely a remarkable game the graphics are not first rate, but who the heck cares, it makes up for that in many other ways. If you know little about RCT (roller coaster tycoon) than let me break it down to you. It is the most addictive fun you will have. If you don't own a copy go out and cop all three titles: Loopy Landscapes, Corksrew Follies, and of course the origianl. This new Rct title comes with new features: Ready? A Scenario editer, new scenarios, ATM machines, actual resturants, escalators, etc I will let you find out the rest. If this review doesn't convince you enough to buy it then read the many other reviews posted, maybe that will help change your mind. I cant wait for RCT2 Like the others i know i will be addicted . Hats off to Chris Sawyer. He's done it again.

If you like to build roller coasters and scenarios, buy this game. If you just like to play the scenarios and expect to see anything like Roller Coaster Tycoon, don't bother. There aren't extra parks that you open after completing scenarios (which was the gamers reward). And there is too much emphasis on playing the 6-Flags Parks (I guess they must have helped to fund this). Chris Sawyer should have stuck with his original concept and just made an add-on for those obsessive enthusiasts who like to create scenarios. Waste of money for a true gamer.

The people still all look the same. There are women, children and old people in the real world, but in the "Rollercoaster Tycoon" world, thirtysomething men rule.
They still have multiple food/drink stalls. Wouldn't it make more sense to sell fries and burgers in the same stall with soda pop? DUH! Why for the love of God are there so many drink stalls? Can't they sell coffee and hot chocolate in the same stall? What about lemonade and soda pop? DOUBLE DUH! And why do we force them to buy drinks? Can't we sprinkle a few water fountains (the kind you drink out of) around the park? It seems to be the right thing to do for the poor teenager who can only afford the rides and not the soda pop for his equally broke date.
Why do we have to sell t-shirts, sunglasses, cuddly toys, and hats in different stalls? What the h!ll is a Souvenir Stall for if it doesn't sell every knick knack in the park? TRIPLE DUH!
The rain still makes the screen too dark, the puke still flies at unrealistic levels (you'd think the rain would wash it away), and your handymen still have no work ethic at all. I name my main handyman Joey Blake and I can't believe how lazy he is! You still have to constantly monitor handyman which really sucks the enjoyment out of the game when you have to grab one and make him sweep up that upchuck and empty that litter bin.
Nightfall would be a nice touch of realism. When it comes your lamps (if you have any) turn on to light the paths. It would create the point of having lamps.
And the park runs all the time. It NEVER closes! For the sake of reality the park should close and you could have a night crew of handymen who clean the h!ll out of the place for the next morning. Hopefully Joey Blake won't be on your crew.
What about snow? You get every kind of weather condition but snow. You might get some ice scenarios, but it doesn't snow in them, but it will rain in the ice scenarios for some reason.
Some things they did get right like making it easier to build rollercoasters and they seperated transporation rides from the gentle rides and water rides from the thrill rides. If that one positive point is good enough for you, buy this game. Other than that, it is merely another expansion pack of the first one. However, I am not going to say that this game isn't addictive because it is despite its horrible flaws.
I can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!

Omg, how much sleep did I lost with RCT? I was obsessed with the game and my friends ended up too. I can't wait for RCT 2 to come out. Another day of long nights up and no sleep. For anyone who hasn't played it yet, RCT is so much fun I started at 11 pm one night and next thing I know the sun was rising. Great game for Rollercoaster lovers.

Those of you who own the first three RollerCoaster Tycoon games should stick with them, there is no need to buy this "Not New" and "Not Improved" version of the orginal. At a time when software companies are competing with the likes of X Box and Game Cube one would think a little more time and consideration would have gone into the new and improved RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, sadly this is not the case. The new rides that are provided with this game are the only addition to an otherwise clone of the original, the remainder of the features and rides are mostly the same and new features are lacking. Keep your money in your wallet and skip this one!
Tons of Fun

Well let me start off by saying that this is the first computer game I have ever bought for my computer and I love it. At first I was a little worried after reading the other reviews because they all recommended that people new to this game should buy the first edition of this game. Well I haven't had a single problem with this game at all. The tutorials walk you through everything so as long as you can follow step-by-step instructions you will be fine, not to mention that the first edition doesn't add on to this one. I can't wait until they come out with some expansion packs for this game because it would be nice to see different stores, restraunts and scenery. My advice, if you want to buy the first edition then do so because you want to not what the reviews say, otherwise jump in feet first and have some fun with this game. There is no need to take this game that seriously, I mean it's a game for goodness sake. I think it's an awesome price for hours of fun. I have had it now for a month and I still play it almost everyday. It's very addictive. Have fun and buy! WOOHOO!!
