My only problem with this game is I bought it about 2 days after I purchasd the expansion packs for RollerCoaster Tycoon I (RCT for short), because of this I was not quite prepared and ready for the RCT II. But let me tell you now that I have figured it out, it is a blast. I have more fun with this game than RCT I.
To prove that to you let me go through some of the cool things on RCT II.
First: The six flags option is incredible. Being able to use build and maintain actual six flags parks is incredible.
Second: The building options on the game are also much better. You are allowed to build your coasters much higher and that makes things incredibly fun to build.
Third: So many eating places...so many drink places...So many new and exciting rides. There are so many new things that if you are a veteran of the game and know RCT I really well, it will make you excited to see the new and improved rides.
Fourth: Veteran RCT gamers, in just about every way that you wanted the first RollerCoaster to improve upon. Has been! Okay bigger parks, better parks. More options for pathways and queue lines. It is INCREDIBLE.
For those first time players of the game, I would suggest starting with the Gold Edition which gives you the original RCT game as well as the two expansion packs. Start with the easy ones, because some of the later games are difficult to get into until you have a basic knowledge and appreciation of the game. Overall RCT the series is wonderful and is fun for all ages. If you buy it make sure that you start with RCT I and then move on to RCT II.
This is not really a sequel

Don't buy this game if you're looking for a totally updated version. It's not. Its really just an expansion pack -- a good one (unlike loopy landscapes and the other one which didn't really add much). I really think that you shouldn't label a game part 2 unless you completely redo the interface, plot or some other MAJOR part of the game. This was just some nice add ons and tweaking.
Great fun, hoping for more features

The new features of this game are great additions to the original Roller Coaster Tycoon, yet I think they could have added a few more goodies for the cost of upgrading to a new game (verses an expansion pack). For example, a great compliment to the game would be to include an array of animated elements like ghosts and pirates that could be inserted into dark-rides to create true theme park attractions. (I keep forgetting. We're building Six Flags parks, not Disney.)
All the same, it's a truely great game and a must have if you enjoyed the first.
Relatively Disappointed

Personally, I believe the first RCT was much better than this newer version. This is geared more towards creating things rather then playing the game. Don't get me wrong, the roller coaster builder is great, but you could have done the same thing in that open scenario in RCT.
I also didn't like that only a few scenarios were included with it. They added the option to make your own scenarios, but I like to conquer challenges given to me rather then ones I make myself. You can go to the website and download what they call "more scenarios", which in reality are most of the same ones from RCT plus a few more. Why they didn't add these (or others) in originally, I don't know. Putting in another few (alright, it would actually take a lot more to satisfy me, considering that I had heard that there would be astounding new scenarios waiting for me, while really there weren't) scenarios alone would have made me have an entirely new outlook on the game.
Not only was the game play not living up to my expectations, but also the graphics hardly changed from the first one. RCT's graphics were hardly very good themselves, and RCT2's look like someone forgot all the technology that is now around. A little 3-D would have helped, perhaps.
Perhaps I had RCT2 on a golden platter before I got it because I loved RCT so much, but this was quite a disappointment. All the new features are wonderful, but they just could have done so much more. I was quite angry that I wasted $... on this. I'd stick with the original if I were you, although it's outdated, it really just has more you can do (in my opinion). However, for those of you that don't much like being confined to completing the scenarios, you would probably like RCT2 more.
It's all a matter of opinion, but I don't recommend this.
This game ROCKS

My brother got this for Christmas. Eventually one day I was really bored (yes, bored enough to watch teletubbies or clean the toilet) and started playing it. It did not take me long to figure it out. You can change the name of your park, which I did right away. I added all this crazy music to my rides and gave my rides and stalls the strangest names. But enough about me-- lets talk about you, as a buyer. This is a great game to play when your bored enough to watch teletubbies or clean the toilet (more fun too). You can build a normal old park and take it seriously, or you can go absolutely CRAZY!!! (you can drown people, hopefully by accident, put music on every ride, make underground rollercoasters, etc.) I would most defenetly NOT recommend this for children under 9. It can get confusing.
Don't buy it if you don't want to be addicted!!

I loved this game! I could not stop playing it. I have built up great empires of theme parks, with all of the great strategy and money management you would expect in any great tycoon game. There is a feature where you can build your own rollercoasters, which I loved, although mine weren't very good. One thing is that it is pretty tough to build roller coasters that go under the ground. I love this game and I would suggest that anyone who loves tycoon games gets this. This is a must have!
Very Cool Game

I am a huge fan of the "tycoon" games and currently own quite a few of them. I first played this game at a friend's house and then begged my parents to let me buy it for myself. I was learned that RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 only came in the Windows-operating version, and realizing that my family only owned an iMac, I was very disappointed. (I was introduced to the fact that there were many more people using PCs than Macs at that time.)
Later that year on Christmas day, I opened a box containing a PC and was instantly overjoyed. I played RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 for my whole Winter vacation and have not stopped playing it since.
The overall gameplay of RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 is incredibly fun and challenging. I haven't gotten tired of it since that fateful Chistmas a few years past. I have since discovered the luxury of creating my own scenarios and now play as more of an entrepreneur of forking in the money from my highly profitable parks than just building rides aimlessly and watching my guests scream with delight.
Overall: A game very hard to get tired of!
