Circle of the Moon was the reason I bought a Gameboy Advance. I was not let down. Beautiful graphics and sound live up to the Castlevania reputation, while the gameplay provides quite a challenge at times. About as long as Symphony of the Night, and a lot harder, CotM has tremendous replay value. By beating the game you can unlock new play modes. And there is a Battle Arena with room after room of punishing monsters. The only downside to this game is the lack of lighting. Castlevania is a dark series, and this game's graphics live up to that. They're very good, but hard to see unless you have equally good lighting conditions. I imagine this looks absolutely gorgeous on a Gameboy Advance SP.
An enjoyable game

This was my first GBA title. I purchased it in April 2002 and pretty much became bored with it. I personally missed the straight forwardness of the earlier Castlevania titles (that is to say I didn't care for the DSS cards). If I want to play an RPG I play Golden Sun (5 stars), if I want to play Metroid, I play Metroid Fusion (5 stars). When I want Castlevania, I want old-school whipping action.
I played it, enjoyed it, and traded it back in at EB for credit towards The Two Towers (also 5 stars).
you'll get plenty of good use out of it.

Castlevania is a respectable series. Fight vampires. Save the world. Sounds like a typical action game, huh? Right. Now don't get me wrong. Castlevania is a great series, but this one could use some work. The lighting is trash and you die nonstop until you get used to this poor lighting. Of course, I wish Harmony of Dissonance still had the DSS. That thing was great! Anyway, 3 out of 5 stars, or average for Castlevania: Circle of the Moon.
Oooooooooh!

Boy, was this game great. I have been a fan of Castlevania since the first one, and I've watched the series grow and evolve, but never disappoint. Circle of the Moon is no different, as it provides a lot of the gameplay reminiscent of Symphony of the Night for PSX, only on a portable platform. True, the graphics are quite dark, but an appropriate light source aimed at the unit will quickly remedy any sight problems you may have with the game.
Unless you're blind. Sorry, lights won't cure that.
Anyhoo, this game is well deserving of the Castlevania moniker, as it provides the RPG-meets-sidescroller type of gameplay that Castlevania fans lust for. It may very well be the best purchase for the system to date.

Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is one of the most challanging, yet fair games I have ever played. I've played many games where it was challanging sure, but only because your enemy used cheap moves or was insanely powerful in comparison to the enemies you fought to get to them. Not in this game. Castlevania: CotM maintains a constant level of difficulty while remaining fun and rewarding. You aren't completely reliant on levelling up throughout the game (though it certainly helps) as a good amount of skill can see you through almost any battle unscathed. A good title for fans of action games and RPGs, this game is easily worth a 10-15 dollar drop in the bucket.
