PlanetSide- A new era of online gaming

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 0 / 1

Although this game has not been released yet, i have been following it since 2001.

This game is amazing, and if it works, will be the first [really big, talking in thousands of players on a single server] MMOFPS.

The graphics are great, there are many weapons too chose from. There are many vehicles, including a drop ship, buggies, quad-bikes, and hover vehicles.

Character customisation makes this game so unique. Anything imaginable can be made here. You want to be a Stealth-Engineer? Have fun. You want to be a pilot + a medic, go ahead. There are many different types of characters, ranging from pilot to a mech sort of character (referred to as a MAX armor)

Now lets talk about the story. You can choose to be one of three emipres (Vanu Sovereignty, New Conglomerate, Terran Republic). There is a planet called Auraxis, and the humans went to explore it. The wormhole they traveled through to get there closed up on them while they were there, and so now there stuck on Auraxis. People got angry, etc., etc., and now you have three factions staring down each other's throats. The Vanu are all for technology and how the human race is imperfect, and throught alien technology, can be made perfect. The NC are for a sort of... blow the sh|t out of everything you come across and the TR and just old fashioned. Hope that helps, I'd right more but I'd exceed 1,000.

Most Fun I have had in a wile

First off im gonna tell you that im a beta tester for PS, unlike all these other people i have actully played the game. Its still in testing mode right now but what i have played has been a wonderful experiance. with crazy graphics, great gameplay, and insane battles. The Fun part is creating squads, every kill they get you get experiance also. In other words this game is awsome. Go get it when it comes out and join my squad.

To the person that said this was a poor MMORPG, it is NOT an RPG.

This game is an MMOFPS, Massivley Multiplayer Online First person Shooter.

Beta is ok, needs a lot more goals though if its going to last, taking a base one day and then having to take it again the next just gets very tiring.

If you like Tribes, then get this you will love it...

Enjoy shooting people? This ones for you

Note: I was and am a beta tester for this game as well. If you are a big fan of Everquest, or other MMORPGs, then you need to move on to SWG or wait for EQ2. The squakers about this game are mostly those that come from RPG backgrounds, not those that come from Counterstrike and other FPS backgrounds. If you enjoy the online version of first person shooters, but get tired of the limited number of maps, small map size and limits to the size of your team then this is a great game for you. Plus you dont have to worry about the quality of the server hosting your game. Sony takes care of it! And for that you get the chance to battle with thousands, have a wide variety of weapons, vehicles and skirmishes. There are the naysayers, but it seems like you cant make everyone one happy, and some people will never be happy. Buy the game, sign up and start shooting people... oh and join a squad!

You will &*$%ing love this game!

You may think "oh no! Another crappy FPS (First Person Shooter) Halo knockoff!" If you think that, you are dead wrong! I played the beta to this game and i can tell you that this is a must get for anyone that has a modem (or DSL). The game goes like this.
Earth's government (The Terran Republic) discovered a planet and sent people to colonize the planet. There, it was discovered that alien technology was all over the planet. The science population called the dead alien race the Vanu (Vah-New) and began to incorperate the technology into the every day life on the planet. All was going well till the Wormhole that brought the people and supplies to the planet colapsed and all contact with Earth was shut off. With the Wormhole gone, the people began to rebel and some formed two new empires. They were the New Conglomerate (wanting to be free from oppression that the Terran Republic brought), The Vanu Soveregnty (wanting to move forward with integrateing the Vanu technology into the human body), and the Terran Republic (the loyalists to the Earth government). A war with no death started with the invention of the respawn tubes.
This makes for a fun game. You play with the world and meet new people (and kill them). With great graphics that make the game feel real and sound that will make you feel that you are in a real war, this game is a "must get"!

This is the best MMOG that I have ever played! It's also good to be in the game from the beginning, because we get to see it as it develops into a better and better game!
There are some lag issues, but the Producer gives really good updates on when things will be addressed and what the plans are to make this game even more awesome!
If you haven't tried an online game... this is the one to start with! There is a training area and everything!
Way to go Sony Online! I look forward to the improvements.
Like I said... give this game a chance! It's well worth it!

alright, short and sweet. here we go. this game is amazing, although i have a 56k modem, and had to pay for a good ammount of equipment for my puter, this game is worth 50 bucks. there is only one downside to the game, however. (when ya get it you'll know what i mea). at times, i feel, that after a base cap, that it is insognificant (spell?) due to the fact that after about an hour of gameplay, nothing has happened to that base or it was taken by somebody else. but what ever. great game for rpg and fps fans.

Okay but takes time

If you have time this is the game for you. You have to get new battle levels which take forever to get and the FPS isnt that great either. ALSO YOU HAVE TO PAY MONEY A MONTH AND THAT STINKS

Tribes2 with the fun removed

The gripe that I have with Planetside is that you don't seem to be getting anywhere or be making a difference to anything. Okay, I only played the demo (solidly) for 7 days, but in that time I helped retake the same base at least twice and I never seemed be advancing either in the conquest of territory or in the ability of my avatar.

Let me explain. In Planetside, you earn the ability to wear armour, use weapons or drive vehicles based on "experience point"s which gain you "certifications points". The more "experience points" you get (by fighting, killing, hacking into enemy installations etc), the more "certification points" you get to use to be allowed to use different bits of equipment, armour, vehicles etc. But even if you do this - you still don't really advance the cause of your Empire (you have to belong to one of three empires all fighting for the same territory) because at the end of the day - you are still just another grunt in a huge army of online grunts.

You don't affect the overall outcome one little bit. That's because there is no overall outcome. No goal, no victory. A sparkling performance from you means nothing. You don't even build your avatar into a powerful demi-god able to smite thousands with a single shot. You just get to compete in an ongoing, repetitive battle for the same installations over and over again and with no conclusion. Do you see?

If you're a Tribes2 player - then this is just Tribes2 with 3D grass, no jet packs and no winners. And what's more - it'll cost you. That's right, you have to subscribe to Sony Online Entertainment after the free 30 days period if you buy the full game.

So, I'm off to dust off my spin-fuser. Lets go vertical!

Frustrating game with poor gameplay, bad lag

The good point is that the concept is not bad but the actual game is. Bad controls, glitches in the program, bugs make this game frustrating to play. Very disapointed with this game.
