Awesome game, and the Dev's are active

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 2

In en era where most MMO's are either vaporware or crud, this one makes it to the top.

Like most other FPS's, the main goal of the game is too shoot people...over and over. And this game does it well.

Grand scale battles (150 vs. 150) are incredible, and with the new lag fixes, there is little noticable choppiness (except for the overpopulated Emerald server).

The Dev's have actually been talking and interacting with the community, already bringing in new content (no, I don't want to play ... mods, I want monthly content dangit), and are constantly improving the game.

True, its not as l33t as Unreal 2k3 (the combat model is kinda simple), and it doesn't have near the graphics of DoomIII, but other qualities MORE than make up for this.

Note: Have at least 1 gig of RAM and a good vid card to run the game at a decent setting with no choppiness.

While the gameplay may suffer somewhat from repetitiveness at times (take the base...take the base...take the base...), the fun-factor with friends is simply immense (I didn't get NEARLY as many LAUGHS playing other "hardcore" FPS's QuakeIII, MoH, CS, Tribes, etc...just trust me on that)

Great Game Needs Some Work

Overall this game is really fun. Sony Online needs to work out some of the lag issues that the game has, they also need to create a character transfer service so players can move their main character to a less crowded server. But like I said the game is really fun.

Great game

It is the only MMO that hasn't disappointed me. When it first came out it had a few problems but they have been fixed. Lots of fun shooting with tons of guns and vehicles. As well as a huge world.

Planetside: Frustration incarnate

I originally picked up Planetside long ago, before Core Combat. It was so bug riddled I finally had to quit...after 6 months I picked it up last month and tried it again. To keep things short, they fixed the major bugs but the game is victim to a terrible engine and very bad programming.

I have a Radeon Pro 9800, an Athlon XP 2100, 512M corsair Ram, and play on Windows XP. Still this game is all but unplayable even at the lowest graphics settings. With the LOWEST texture settings at 1024x768 resolution you will still have the game stutter even just walking around with no other players involved. Once you try to have a fight, or even walking around, the game can lock for a full 2 seconds at times. This means you are dead, even if you had superior firepower, position, and skill. You can seriously expect framerates of about 10-15 (or far worse) in most fights even with the hardware I have at low graphics settings. This is the reason I don't play the game any more. I can't begin to describe the frustration this brings to the game. Not only this, but the game STILL has bugs all over the place. The programming and engine are horrendous.

I have been told that if you have 1G+ ram, a 3Ghz processor, and a top of the line vid card you can actually play the game. I don't know. But unless you do, I'd heavily recommend skipping the game.

Exactly what I have been waiting for

I have been following the progress of Planetside for over two years now. I was involved in open beta and put in at least 60-80 hours of play. I would have been in more but some of my hardware (ram and video card) were causing problems and I had to upgrade. Before complaining "it's the game!" check to make sure you have the latest video drivers, defrag your hard drive, and try lower video settings.

In beta I was involved in some of the most exciting action In my many hours of online gaming. The Dev team for this game was exemplary. They listened to their beta testers and were phenomenal in sifting through ideas and incorporating the best suggestions. Over the past month the game has progressed a long way and exhibits good stability and exciting gameplay flow. The lattice system tends to encourage frontline combat, and Instant Action is available for those people who just want to go out and frag.

For those people who are into RPG style leveling, there is a battle rank and command rank system. BR buildup is fairly fast to br14 or so, as long as you participate in squad formations where you earn your squadmates as well as your own bep. With battlerank you get access to more cert points allowing a single character to become more versatile and specialized.

but at its heart Planetside is a First Person Shooter. Its cone of fire implementation helps for those who lag a bit.

You will get more enjoyment out of Planetside by organizing or joining an outfit. With an outfit you get to see your outfit stats compared to other outfits, get your own logo (not customized, only game built) which goes on every armor and vehicle, generally will have more fun.

Planetside is a blast, and the new content coming will make it even more exciting.

Ok, I have heard so much bad stuff about this game. So I decided to try for my self. IT IS THE BEST game ever made. The graphics are crystal clear. Sound is awesome you can even hear the cloaked Terran scum walking behind you. Every thing is awesome. Don't let anyone tell you other wise.

you either like it or you don't

The game is one of the best games out there. Well in my opinion it is. You my not like it, It is for the extreem First Person Shooter fan and I mean it.
The game gets a bit laggy at times if you dont have the right amount of ram "512". But once you get that it runs smoothly.
To tell the truth im addicted to it. I'm low in battle rank but it is so fun to gloat to the deceased and weak. So you either like it or you don't.

where's the single player mode?

I consider myself a true, dedicated fan of all sci-fi and fantasy games. Usually when a game comes out that has on-line/campaign mode, there is a single player mode for those of us non "on line" player, people who just like to play against the A.I. So to speak. So when I seen this game and the beauty of it I said, WOW! Looked for a sign that said single players.....NOPE! After I bought it I got a surprise of my life...Just on-line and for on line use only! I know some of the on line games such as never winter nights or half life are either single player or multi-player....boy I wish this was! I would've been happy if it would have been. Now it just gathers dust in a corner somewhere. So thank you Sony entertainment for nothing!

Bad programming and design ruins the game

The aircraft controls and gameplay in this game are absolutely horrible! They should take a good lesson from Halo on how to design aircraft controls.
The player vs player combat is flawed as well. Here they need to learn a good lesson from Quake 3 in terms of gameplay.
I bought this main game but WILL NOT buy the core combat expansion as I think this game is not worth it.
