this is a great game to own. its not only fun when you first play it but long after you have it. its one of those games you cant get tired of. especially with four controllers and four of you friends. graphic wise it looks great. the players look real the crowd looks real. gameplay is good and controls are the best. so, do i recommend this game, yes i do. and also it only requires 2 blocks of memory.

I am not a tennis fan at all but when it comes to this game, I am always up for some Virtua Tennis. The career mode is pretty good. Win matches to get money so you can buy players, levels and wears that can later be used in normal and multiplayer mode. The multiplayer is the best! It is a four player game that is always fun to play. This is always an alternative for multiplayer. Get this game if you have a big family! IT IS DEFINATELY WORTH THE PRICE!!!

I hope that this review was helpful to you!

intoxicating mix of speed, action and eye candy

Virtua Tennis is a pixel-perfect translation of the arcade hit. In addition, the game features a number extras designed for the port over to Dreamcast. The result is a very fun gaming experience.

Like Crazy Taxi, Virtua Tennis sports a number of extras in addition to the arcade port. Included in the Dreamcast version are: arcade mode, exhibition mode, and world circuit mode. World Circuit Mode is most challenging as you travel the world taking part in trial matches earning money and buying items such as equipment or doubles' partners. Your techniques are also sharpened in various training stages such as the pin crasher, where the bowling pins must be knocked down with serves.

Virtua Tennis is an intoxicating mix of speed, action and eye candy. Even if Sega had done a simple port of the arcade game, Virtua Tennis would have warranted a purchase. However, they have thrown in the extra modes to warrant a MUST buy.

Gameplay: 10/10- It feels like you really are playing tennis.

Difficulty: VARIES- You can choose the difficulty level that suits you best by going to the options menu.

Overall- 10/10 - If you own a Dreamcast, this is a must-have.

Most unrealistic tennis game I have ever played

The graphics are great, but that is it. There are very few players. No women. Why? Jim Courier is supposedly the best player in the game! What a laugh. I would rather play as mario or toadstool. When you are playing doubles you might as well be playing with a braindead cripple. Your partner is constantly making horrible plays. The control is decent. It seems like you can never hit a lob back, yet in singles the computer ALWAYS smashes them back. They should have just taken the lob function out of the game as far as i'm concerned. It was fun for the first day or so. My advice don't buy this awful game!

This is a greatgame that seems to be excellent in all categories, and yet, there is always something that seems wrong and could use improvement The graphics are smooth and are a testament to the Dreamcast, but unfortunately the faces of the players look TERRIBLE(on par with Goldeneye on N64), and the game suffers from occasional slowdown, especially in doubles matches. As far as control goes, the simple two button interface is ingenious and enables your friends to pick it up and be almost as good as you in minutes. Although there are times when I feel the control could have been refined a little bit more. I often found myself pressing A to hit the ball when it is right in front of me, and my character would dive for the ball and miss it. But probably the thing I hate most about the game is the unbalanced doubles AI. For some reason, your doubles partner finds it impossible to hit the ball in the area where the other playes are not. Another thing is the fact that most of the time your partner is behaving like Rain Man, but every tenth point or so, he will engage in intense volley match with both of the players on the other side of the court, and smoke them effortlessly, no matter what the difficulty. WHAT IS THAT! As far as the players go, I didn't mind the fact that there were no "superstars" as much as I did that half of the characters in the game are MADE UP. The do not exist. Period. Sega, at least pay some no name player to appear in your game rather than making someone up. Anyway...definetly check this game out, I'm almost sure you'll find a rental worth your time. I've really only mentioned the bad things when there is a world of good in this game. I guess I'm a little disgruntled because I'm trying to beat the last match in the World Circuit mode and having no luck.

Arcade Port

I was completely addicted when i first played Virtua Tennis on the arcade. All the different techniques and the smooth gameplay made VT one of my all-time favorite arcade games.

Obviously, I had to get the DC game! But it's a bit different... The graphics are way better but if played in a small tv you won't have a good time trying to just see the ball. The gameplay is a bit slower (maybe due to the improved graphics?) and there are differences in the execution and timing of certain strokes. Obviously I soon came to my senses and remembered it was a port... A good one but still a port.

I would buy the game just for the Arcade. But what makes this a game that a non-vt-arcade-fanatic like me would not buy happily if it was like the arcade mode. Here comes the great plus of the game. The World Circuit! I've spent a few hours finishing it and it was terribly fun. Add that to lots of new players with new strongpoints, two hidden players, the rpg component of the money you earn and use to buy shirts, players, stadiums and more and, of course, the possibility of playing a doubles game make this a must have.

BTW, a low-point... what about female players? I have a Sega Pro Tour (SPT)... I want a WSPT ;)

The BEST!

Game, Set and Match!

This game is cool. The graphics aren't the best, but the gameplay is very realistic. You get to play with 8 real tennis players, but the downside is, that they aren't superstars. There are three modes of play, Arcade, Exibition and World Circuit. Arcade is a "win and advance mode" and exibition is a "set your own rules" mode. In World Circuit, you play trial matches and train to earn money so you can buy equipment, players and courts. As you play and win matches, you'll become higher ranked in the world(you start 300th). I really like this and game... I think any tennis fan would LOVE this game.
