This is a non-MMO, and, almost as bad as Vanguard for bugs and playability

1 Rating: 1, Useful: 5 / 10

Lack of content might be expected from a new MMO, but at this point I am no longer giving a get out of jail free card for shoddy work.

The buggyness is everywhere from pve to pvp from quests to animations to the world itself. It's horrendous to the point where the bugs, to this very day (1 month from release) have prevented the economy from going.

Combine that with the fact this game is heavily instanced (picture 10 copies of Ironforge, and you constantly having to select from a pop up menu which one you are in so you can see your friends). The zones are small and are "on rails" which means very little open exploring.

The combat system is more button mashing that Diablo II with no strategy whatsoever.

This game is neither polished enough or fun enough to be a commercial product.

The Good, the bad, and the terrible

The Terrible: When you log in you have 5-10 offline messages, all from people whom want to sell you their in game money or their power leveling services. Ignore doesn't work against it because they create new characters multiple times per day. This game was supposed to be the first MMO designed for DX 10... I have yet to see that, and yes I have a DX10 capable video card.

The Bad: The User Interface is probably one of the worst I've ever used. Hardly any "HotKeys" and most of the ones that are there, require you to hold shift. Even the "Trader" (the place where you go to buy items from other players) has a horrible search system.

The Good: Combat is fun, and challenging. Unlike most other games, you get a sense of accomplishment for having better than normal items. The graphics are great even when you're stuck with DX 9.

Overall, this is a pretty good game for something that just came out. The devs of the game need to get rid of the gold spammers. They need to get DX 10 up. And they need to re-do the GUI.

When I bought this game I had heard way too much good stuff about it. Funcom made it seem like they were reinventing the genre. Its just another mmo, still grindy and a lot of running.

TBH i wasn't sure if conan was hype or a good game after playing till 40 conan is really good game the battle system is AWASOMe , pretty graphics and everything.

its has alot of release mmo bugs wich would be fixed in the future ( like it was with wow , blink fall through the world and still is not fixed)fun com has fixed alot of issue already and many are to come.

Im really enjoing my time with conan the pve aspect is very good the history in night mode was well done and involving.

The pvp so far is a blast since you need to actually FIGHT planm your attacks and the lvl diference doesnt affect that much if you maange to dodge the combos.

if you are on the border about this game i recomend to give it a try and judge for yourself to much negativity and hype around this game

Cons:
they didnt send me a tracking number but the product arrive in time ( amazon reseller problem not a problem from the game)

I love this game from the charecter creation to the gameplay. its very well thought out. I canceled both my WOW accounts after playing this game. This is probably the smoothest lunch ive ever seen in an mmo. Usaully after luanch of an mmo they get better and better with patches and add-ons from player feed back, so look for this game to just get better...

I had been playing WOW for the past couple years and was at the point that it no longer held my interest. My friend told me he was Beta testing Age of Conan and his description of it peaked my interest. I've been playing Conan for two weeks now and so far I am not disappointed. I like that it caters to the mature players, that really cuts down on all the drama and immature prattle I encountered on WoW.

Just another MMO...

After reading all the hype and watching the trailers I ordered myself a copy expecting great things from this new MMO.
I've played many MMO's where you run around and hack 'n slash your way to a higher level with little actual skill involved in fighting or taking down your enemies.

After hearing about AOC's combat system where you can attack different parts of the body and do combo's etc I thought just maybe we finally have an MMO where the fighting really does take much skill...
Well I was dissapointed to say the least. Fighting in melee is not anything special, you press either 1, 2, or 3 depending on where your opponents shields are not, wooppeee! - in my opinion this is a lame attempt to make fighting interesting. Blocking and parrying are things I would like to see of more in MMO's but in AOC its better to rather spend your time just blatantly attacking your enemy than trying to get the timing of your parry's right, as a good parry doesn't give your character any advantage to attack your enemy or put them off balance.

I also played with the Demonologist and resorted to using mainly one spell from my arsenal all the way to lvl 20. This got really boring after a while and the uselessness of the 'pet' I could summon lead me to removing it from my quickbar.

With regard to the games graphics the environments are lovely but still look a bit behind todays cutting-edge graphics. The sound and music score are seamless and the music does a good job of providing the right atmosphere.

I found the game to be extremely stable running Windows Vista and my 8800GTS, performance was smooth with everything on high, however if I turned the BLOOM option on performance dropped considerably.

After leaving Tortage and reaching lvl 20 I have uninstalled Age of Conan. Why? The storyline was good but I really felt I was wasting my time running around killing monsters to get my 'next hit' by levelling up. Maybe I'm expecting too much but I feel its time companies developing MMO's start bringing something new to the table in terms of player economy, ways to skill up and reward instead of more hit points and new spells.

Graphics & Landscape *****
Definitely next generation, beautiful full lush views, rolling hills and detailed equipment. If Wow or Eq2 will revamp their scenes to this level it'd be the game of the decade . No major visual bugs as far as I could tell. The cities are true architectural beauties, sunlight reflects off the stones etc. Only disappointment was relatively 'limited' playing area, I thought we'd looking at an island that was "vanguard" size ,with many many cities and environments. At least that's the impression given on the website . But at present they have only developed about 1/8 of that big advertised map.

Game play **
Reviewing the videos and box descriptions beforehand, you'd think your battles are going to be skilled death match bouts or strategic plays . I.e a tactical boxing match style with a "Cinderella man" ability to vary for different foes. Instead they are largely slug fests. Yes you can vary the attack buttons and hit off their Armour defenses, but that's about it. Doesn't make a huge difference which strike buttons you use, as long as you use a lot of them. Note Combo moves are just sequence buttons as opposed to "special" events. For example as a ranger using a bow, I can't "aim" at a certain target area, i.e. the legs of a armored defender. I can send wounding arrow, blood drain etc but there's only two defense factors to figure out, health and shield direction . An improvement sure over most MORPG's but not exactly a game winner. I had wanted to use marksman plays instead of merely generalized wounding skills. Yes there are modifiers, but there presence is limited. In the end it doesn't really matter which class you choose, 85% of the time you have to melee the encounters to finish them . When I did die the reason was nearly always because a NPC spawned next to me (additions) or the whole camp aggro'd. Easy to level.

Classes***

The games heart is defiantly located in the barbarian mode i.e. tank. Whilst an attempt is made for mage's and priests, I got the feeling that given the large amount of tight dungeons instances, pvp changes and npc swarms, all classes are not built equally. I don't criticize being a tank , just if your not totally comfortable with being a slugger, you probably won't like the game

Atmosphere -**- ( depends on your taste)

The Devs here should be credited with going with their own definite style and taste. Rather then a "bland" non descriptive environment, they went for dark an dirty. So yes there are "swear" words and gore, but its not too explicit and most of it is related to the game play. Some players of course think an adult game means your now free to behave as a idiot. I.e. because its "M" rating you can " grief " and be obnoxious. I had wanted to play as a mage, but the choices were demon lover, undead death magic lover or demon/hell worshiper. Not good it you prefer not be involved in following overtly false/ demonic influences. It'd been nice to be able to least choose 1 'good"/"neutral" character. My point being the devs have labeled all magic 'evil' , regardless if its not to everyone's wishes.

Technical and online Side ****
Easy to set up, few game bugs, high requirements but you get high results, some glitches but devs are diligent to correcting them. Trade skills not so great and some in game items are yet to be seen. Some crowded playing areas and harsher for solo players. Basic UI ,which isn't that developed or adaptable.

Overall ***

Although it was an interesting experience I am not going to renew past the 30 day mark. It appeals to a certain type of play and that whilst the atmosphere and visuals are great, you are largely stuck in a Melee type world. I had hoped as I leveled there would be more mystic/interesting elements but not really, its Rambo as opposed to Apocalypse now. I certainly didn't have any "wow" moments(no pun intended at all). The Devs should be congratulated for a bold, stunning game. But doesn't mean it is for everyone.

Simply Amazing

I would recommend this game to anyone who is an MMORPG fan or just looking for something new, fun, and innovative to play. I've been an avid World of Warcraft player since it was released in 2004 and this one just blew me out of the water.

The new combat system developed by Funcom is both fun and involving. No more lining up a chain of skills and just clicking down the 1 through 0 keys to get it off. In Age of Conan, you use directional attacks with your weapons and combo attacks using these directions which can have devastating results. The combat itself is real time, using an active blocking and dodging system which can make or break you in player versus player combat. You can download the Age of Conan Combat Tutorial video from most any gaming website.

Features such as a Guild City that your in game guild can work to build, and eventually large scale guild siege warfare over the Battlekeeps your guild can build in the Borderlands add something you can work toward, be proud of, and look forward to.

The graphics in the game are simply amazing, and while it requires a quite impressive machine to run on full graphical settings, it can be scaled down to run on a moderate machine. Being a mature rated game, the environments are both dark and beautiful at the same time. The lush forests, gushing rivers, snow swept mountains, and shining deserts are all detailed and in many places decorated with savage trophies such as heads on pikes, or bodies hanging from trees and lying on the ground.

The enemies encountered in this game are, for the most part, human, or else a slight derivative of human. There are no elves, or dwarves, or gnomes in this game. Despite that, each of the enemies are well designed and detailed. You will not find this game lacking in variety.

Though the game is slightly unfinished, as are all MMORPGs within their first few months of release, I would highly recommend this game for anyone who wants a fun new game to play or simply something new instead of the same tired old game we've all been playing since late 2004.

Everyone is shipping the game at this time, You don't receive download information due to the fact that a million+ people would be requesting the game files via digital download lol. Do you know what type of network traffic that requesting 20GB of data for launch time would create. I would hate to be that server!!! Give the game time to ship, It's killing me too, I can't wait until I have it installed and updated! I will play EQ2 now, EverQuest2 graphics and PvP is still amazing! 24 classes and 19 races is unmatched in EQ2. Hey Try EQ2 free while you wait, It's far more adult than WoW, and better swordplay/magic pvp and graphics.
