lackluster

This game feels like a console game, not a pc game. That probably makes sense since I think they're going to release it for xbox eventually.

If you have played World of Warcraft or Guild Wars, don't expect anything like that. I'm not sure if its 'lame' or 'sucks' but it was ceratinly a big disappointment to me all around. Wish I didn't spend my 50 bucks on it.

Not worth your time....

Maybe its me but all MMO's lately seem to be the exact same but this game is HORRIBLE! I was in the beta and was pretty excited about it honestly. I bought it when it came out and played it quite a bit. The crafting sucks, the social sucks, huge bugs(which is to be expected when something is released.) and the worst part....3 months after release the design crew has systematically destroyed this game. More things are broken now than at release. I was very disappointed. If you want something fun and solid with good crafting with hardly any bugs I would try LOTRO

Biggest grinder ever made. All the items look the same. Creative use of maybe a total of 20 total armor sets in marketing.

The conent in this game literally runs out at points and you have to aimlessly grind mobs to level.

With dwindiling numbers on most all servers, finding groups for end zone quest lines is completely impossible. And the 1-80 levelling experience is absolutely dependant on these quests for experience points.

SO you end up having to repeat "villas" (can you say badge runs, only they start at low level, 5 tiny instances that all look the exact same, with boring goals such as "collect valuables in villa verde"). This will get you a 5th of a level every 6 hours on a timer.

OR you can mindless kill random mobs at 1000 experience each, for a total of 1.3 million to level, you do the math on the kills needed for that.

The armor is blatant false advertising.

Think world of warcraft, level 1-10 armor sets, with different stats at level 80.

TERRIBLE weapons and armor selection.

For former warcraft players, I will give you an idea of the games size, think elwyn, westfall, duskwood, redridge, felwood, and blasted lands.

Thats how small it is, about perhaps half of one wow continent.

They try to disguise this with lengthy zone in and zone out load screens.

Mounted travel, is around the same speed as running on foot.

Mounted combat, doesn't allow for use of abilities, only standard weapon swings, which are very weak attacks and meaningless in pvp, players regenerate health faster than normal swings take it away one must use combos to kill an opponent, and cannot on a mount.

Can't recommend this at all, boring, buggy and no rewards worth the play.

Still in Beta

I'll keep this short, since there are lengthy, more detailed reviews below.

Graphics-wise, there are no better games. Matched with some blood and gore, you have a reasonably immersive gaming experience.

The 'adult content' is all hype; aside from occasional, accidental nudity, expect the adult content to only be the aforementioned blood and gore.

The game has the potential to be far better then any other MMORPG that is currently on the market, however:

1) The game is effectively still a 'beta' with catastrophic patches at times fixing or breaking stability issues.

2) The classes are in a constant state of flux that makes it hard wishing to invest time in a character that will be 'nerfed' week to week.

3) Quests and endgame content are lacking. One has to grind on random mobs as opposed to complete quests in order to gain levels. All in all, one achieves levels quickly, however.

4) It is too early to really understand system requirements for the game. Vista systems seem to have worse problems then XP, and this game was supposedly made to run on Vista.

My recommendation is stay away from this game for at least three to six months. You will enjoy the first week of game play, as you go from a well developed tutorial village to the main world. But, once reaching the main world, the collective bugs and lack of content will rapidly diminish the fun and leave you frustrated.

A Huge Disappointment

Given the hype behind this product, I expected to be amazed by its unique 'adult' approach to MMOs. Unfortunately, blood splatter and naked torsos are no substitute for quality. Here are my primary issues:

1) Bugs. Bugs. Bugs. Someone call an exterminator because this game is infested. From terrain to objects to mobs to quests. This game never should have been released given the extensive amount of issues. I understand that all new releases go thru a debug stage, but this should never have left beta in its state.

2) Traveling. This is a fairly spread out game and there are no forms of travel short of mounts which a normal player can't afford. I spent more time runing around trying to reach areas than actually playing. Anyone that has played MMOs understands the tediousness involved. My only consolation was the graphics were pretty the first few times I saw them as I ran by.

3) Support. There is virtually none. Due to previous mentioned bugs, I've sat in queues that have lasted hours with no response.

4) Quests. Not only boring but predictable. I realize it can be difficult to come up with something original, but giving the adult theme there was so much more that could have been embraced that wasn't.

5) Player Interaction. I spent so much time fighting for mob spawns on those rediculous 'collect X number of items and kill X number of mob' quests. That I played PvE and not a PvP server meant not only did I have to wait, I had to either accept the people that would just run up and take what I was clearing to or become a rather obnoxious person and do it in return.

There are more general issues that I've encountered, but these are the primary ones. Dont waste your money on this. Go play WoW or wait for the next MMO to roll out.

Best MMO in Years

I played beta. I played early access. And I've not played from launch. This is a great game with lots of potential. Is everthing perfect? No. But neither was Week 1 of World of Warcrafter either. I love the setting and the fact that the graphics are not all cartoony.

Give this game a try! I word of warning--you really need at least a 8800 GT to play this well.

Great Game despite the negative reviews!

I have to disagree with a lot of the negative comments here.. If I actually based my buying this game at the beginning reviews in amazon, I would have never purchased this game and missed out on a awsome MMO. First of all I have played many MMO's over the years and this game is actually one of the smoothest releases, aside from minor patching and a few extended downtime days, I have have been pretty impressed with the launch. You do need a pretty decent computer to ensure you get the full feel of the game, but the graphics and sound are really great. The gameplay is a little different than what i am used to, but who says change isn't good. Like any good mmo sometimes tweaking the game out takes a year or two.. I normally don't write reviews but just saying the game is crap and still beta is midly laughable. Just like any mmo, this type of genere will be always a work in progress just like all of the mmo's that are currently out there.

Paying to beta test an xbox360 game

This is the worst MMO ever made. It is very heavily instanced because it is primarily an Xbox 360 game. Anything they add in the future will always come back to if it will work on the 360. This is not a real MMORPG.

Not worth $50

This game sucks after tortage, the storyline goes poof and the beautiful voice acting follows. end game content doesent exist yet, hopefully it will in the future, siege battles suck because the walls.. your able to walk right through them. player buildings are useless, World pvp doesent exist. Every zone is instanced, theres no open world every area is very linear which leaves little room for any kind of organized tactics.. so far pvp is a mindless camp fest. Combat fails.. its just a button mash like a single player action game, think pirates of the carribean legend of jack sparrow or that old lotr game.. I bought it on newegg for a few dollars less..most of the classes are so bugged they nearly arent playable.. i actually feel like im playing a no budget cheap asian mmo.

This game is not worth $50 I think funcom ran out of money thats why they released this.. its still like playing a game in early beta. Now now.. i know wow was pretty empty when it was first out.. but at least it had world pvp.. it was playable it didnd feel like i was playing an early beta game.

It takes along time for npcs and textures to load too. i might stand there for 5 minutes before the game will load the npcs so im able to finish a quest etc. I just built this computer with top of the line parts theres no reason for this. In Crysis with all settings maxed out 1280x1024 res my fps never goes below 35 in the heaviest combat.. in AoC im lucky to get 25 fps just standing around and 15 during combat. This game is a train wreck that should not have been released for at least another year.

Seriously spend your $50 on mass effect pc or assassins creed, give this game a few more months, if it hasen't been shut off by then it might be patched enough to be playable.

Let me just say im forever grateful i came to my senses before buying the collectors edition... Iv canceled my account before they had a chance to swipe away $15. Im still using my free 30 days.. Once that runs out im gone. I may return in a few months to see if anythings changed.. but honestly id be surprised if AoC is even still online by then and funcom isen't bankrupt.

Waste of $50, 3 hours install time, 2 hours patch time, 30gb hd space.

Crushed by it's own bugs.

Age of Conan was a long time coming, but it's drilled up as too little, too late. The strong majority of it's unique content never made it through, and what surfaced was a weak collection of genre basics with a half-cooked melee system.

The launch is probably the worst in the MMO genre since Funcom's last title; Anarchy Online. Everything in the game just about is bugged into non-use. Stats aren't even functioning. Yes, stats. Skills do not work, feats do not work, AMD processors and ATI cards are left to rot, classes are wildly broken or imbalanced, It's a mess. All of the promising PvP features talked about? Nowhere to be found. They've clearly released a product that would is alpha state at best, and dug themselves consecutive years of patching just to catch up.

I would suggest as a long term genre fan to wait for Warhammer Online or Blizzard's next World of Warcraft expansion. There is absolutely nothing of interest that made it through to the final Conan release, and you'll be waiting in the cold a long, long time waiting for the patches to fix it all.
