a pretty rocking sequel

No One Lives Forever 2 is another fun first-person shooter entering a crowded market. Like the original, however, it manages to stand out from the crowd with it's goofy weapons and gadgets, and general sense of Austin-Powers-style humor.

You play as Cate Archer, a James Bond wannabee who goes on a series of varied missions in a struggle against the evil organziation H.A.R.M. Over the course of several missions, you will fight a ninja in a house being carried away by a tornado, shoot at mimes with a tommygun while riding on the back of a tricycle, and avoid certain death in a human-compacting contraption. The whole game is very tounge-and-cheek, while remaining pretty challenging.

A great part about this game is that you can approach it from two angles: sneak around or guns blazing. Often you will have no choice but to take one of the two paths, but generally you can go choose between finding a stealthy means to accomplish your mission or just to hide behind a big tree and fire off bursts from your AK-47. New to the sequel is RPG-style "points", which you accrue by finding secret documents and accomplishing primary and optional mission goals. I think it adds a nice element to the game, as you can improve factors such as your weapons accuracy and sneaking abilities by allocating precious points.

All this sounds great, and it really is. However, if you played the first No One Lives Forever, you're going to be a little disappointed. There are hardly any new weapons or gadgets, and the graphics seem to be about the same. If you loved the original as much as I did, defintely pick this up though, especially since the price has plummeted on it.

If you're new to the series, however, start with the original game. It was longer, and arguably, a little bit better.

Great game that ends too early!

I bought this game on a whim...I used to hate first-person shooters. However, NOLF 2 gives me hope that the FPS is moving a fun, new, and involved direction. NOLF 2 is not your typical shoot everything that moves bloodfest. The spy-spoof premise draws the player in and keeps the gameplay exciting through and through.

The graphics are pretty fantastic, sound is great (you can hear the enemies coming from behind you), and controls are easy to use.

The ONLY downside to this game is it ends rather suddenly and unsuspectedly. I probably spent around 15 hours to complete the game. However, the fact that this game is so fantastic and the hope of a three-quel totally redeems the ending.

Pick this game up! You won't regret it!

Very Entertaining - but Cheaters Beware

I liked the first NOLF so I bought this sequel. This game is a lot of fun to play, the graphics are very well rendered and the humorous storyline held my interest. I especially liked using the crossbow, impaling many a foe against a wall! I also loved the fact that you can ride vehicles in this game, its alot of fun "thumping" guards with a snowmobile.

Some of the game levels are too difficult at times, "find this paper, get this switch"; prompting me to resort to cheat codes in order to move things along. Be warned: using certain cheats at certain times will lock you out of game's storyline; preventing you from picking up a necessary item that triggers a new plot sequence. I learned this the hard way, when I had to repeat an entire mission over because I could'nt pick up a briefcase full of supplies.

Other than that one problem I have had a good time playing NOLF2, my computer seems to like the game two since it runs just fine without any patches installed. Buy it.

Love the Brit Accent!

I had so much fun playing this game. The accent is to-die-for. Funny. Decent play time and difficulty is moderate, too. Regular shooter game that doesn't always scare you to soil your pants. =)

This game is great!

I've already played the teaser, (although I havent played the real game yet) and it was great. this game has great graphics, multiplayer, and overall gameplay. The first game was great so I expect this to be even better. The only problem is that my graphics card doesnt work with the game, and I wish the developers at monolith could at least change the compatibleness so everyone could play. On one of the reviews, it said

"This game works good on bad computers, and great on good ones."

But that's not true, I have 256 mb of ram, 40gb hard drive, 1.5 ghz processor, and (okay, this is pretty bad) a bad TNT2 card that's not compatible with T & L. So that thing about running well on a bad computer isn't true, most computers w/ 98 or 2002 or even XP (which I have) won't be able to run it unless they update their computer constantly. Just though this might be helpful check your graphics card before you order or buy or whatever. =)

If you get one game, get this one

Sierra and Monolith have on their hands the best single player FPS franchise in the world. Half Life may have revolutionized the single player FPS genre, but NOLF has perfected it.

UNITY's Cate Archer is back to battle the nefarious H.A.R.M with a whole new graphics engine to boot. And like James Bond, she gets better and better with each episode.

Ill keep my review short and sweet so as not to bore you. The new graphics are stunning. Water has never looked so good. Grass waves in the wind. The characters are highly detailed and their mouths literally speak the words. No more "chewing gum" mouths. The weapons and gadgets are spectacular, I used each and every one of them. You can gun your way around a level with an AK-47 or snoop around with a brand new "utility launcher" The inclusion of which was done perfectly. It truly is the most versatile of cate's weapons and great for silently moving around.

The plot is wonderful and I wont spoil it for you here. Needless to say, it was so good I had my girlfriend watching over my shoulder the entire game like it was a movie. She would not let me play unless she was watching. And thats testament to the brilliance of this game and of its predecessor. Its not a game, its entertainment. You dont play a "shooter" you play a movie that is complete with witty characters, exotic locales, and stunning gameplay.

Do us a favor Sierra/Monolith, dont make us wait 2 more years for NOLF 3. You have an amazing engine and a world class franchise. Please produce another NOLF soon, Cate is too good to be shelved for long

I love this game...being able to play cooperatively with a buddy is awesome...it is a blast to hook up with a friends and strategize while playing. I only hope that more games come out that allow coop play. Halo did it and that was the most fun my buddy and I have had playing a 1st person shooter...NOLF2 is right up there.

Awesome Game!!!

It's has been long time since I've played a good single-player first person shooter. I must say the NOLF2 is a class above many other games I've played in the past. Its graphics presentations' are sweet, it has decent audio and extremely fun gameplay. Though its humour is a little slapstick, one can't help but laugh. It's good fun!!!

NOLF 2 Review

I never played the first No One Lives game, but this one somehow appealed to me in the previews. The phrase "She's smart, She's sexy, And she's knocking them dead from Japan to Akron, Ohio" got me. I had bought one of the newest spy games (James Bond: 007 Nightfire) but it just wasn't cutting it. Unfortunately, my computer couldn't play NOLF 2, so I forgot about it. IMPORTANT NOTE: Your video card needs hardware TnL to play this game and many others. As far as I know, all Nvidia chip sets support this game. However, I finally got a new computer and it all worked out. I borrowed a copy from my friend and I was blown away. This was the first game that actually had some good humor in it. The ingame cinematics are cool, but sometimes look a little outdated. The gameplay itself is also spectactular and the music is pretty cool.
However, I soon found that everything that you do always revolves around "skill points" or nifty little credits that you use to upgrade all of your skills (armor, health, gadgets, etcetera) I often spent hours on some levels searching in every drawer and cranny for notes, tapes and papers. I got frustrated sometimes when I couldn't find what I needed. Also, I only recognized a few of the many many guns that NOLF 2 has. Still, NOLF 2 is a very nice game with a good plot and great graphics and characters.

Best Game I have Played So Far

I have just completed the game. This is the best game I have played so far.

Pros:
1. Good story. There is enough content to be made into a short movie.
2. Strong character development. You will get to know and like Cate Archer the heroine of the story.
3. Good voice acting. This is exceedingly important. Good voice acting is required to draw you into the game.
4. Some humor.
5. Almost photo realistic graphics. I have the Radeon 9600. You will probably need something comparable.

6. Value priced. It is now under ten dollars.

Cons:
1. About 3 missions involve pixel hunting. I have to use a cheat code to end one mission. Having to search for a unique item in a large level slows down the game. What is more frustrating is the some of these items are randomly place, probably to give this game some replay value. This means that a walkthrough is only of limited use in locating these items.

Apart from some frustrating pixel hunting, this game succeed in drawing me into it. It provided several days of pleasant distraction which is why I played video games. The low price and entertainment value make this game a must-have for anyone who plays video games.
