I'm a twelve year old gamer who first found "Sonic Adventure 2" on a demo disk after buying "Phantasy Star Online." I have the original game "Sonic Adventure" and I have to say that the game has much improved. I found in a magazine that the game runs a smooth sixty frames per second and has 6 playable characters including Sonic's pals, Knuckles and Tails. Sonic's adventure is mainly an action/adventure platform, Tail's adventure is a shooting platform, and Knuckles is a rare somewhat of a "hiding go seek" platform. The music for the game is fantastic especially for each action stage since the music sort of sets the mood for each stage. Oh yes, there are more than 30 action stages! The game also has some elements of the original game such as the blasting through each stage as fast as possible or just exploring, but now it is faster, the characters have new moves, new action stages, and basically all of the glitches in the original game are removed such as the falling through the floor. Over all, this game is really exciting, fast paced, fun, and is sure to please any Sonic fan. If you're not a Sonic fan, then this game definitely will make you one. I highly recommend buying this game. It makes you feel proud that you bought that Dreamcast.
Being a Sonic fan for the full 10 years, this is it!

On 9.9.99, when Dreamcast was launched, Sonic Adventure was a major hit. And it held and still holds the record for the best-selling DC game. But is that record's days numbered?
You bet!
Sonic Adventure 2 is another one of those special Sega games that blasts the competition out of the water.
When the demo of Sonic Adventure 2 was released and now comes as a bonus with Phantasy Star Online (PSO), I just couldn't stop playing it. A lot of people couldn't.
The graphics have come a LONG way from Sonic Adventure. You can already notice the improvements in the beginning of the first level of the beautiful San Fransisco streets. Sonic escaping from an Army helicopter, skydives with his streetboard, and then slides his way through the city, eventually gets rid of his streetboard, and does the rest of the level on foot. Pretty close to the end of the level, Sonic has to run from a BIG 18-wheeler, similar to a scene in the 1968 movie "Bullitt" and will run from that all the way to the end of the level. The semi is beautifully detailed. Sonic's spines start to flap once he really starts to move. And the city itself is also quite gorgeous under the beautiful sun and not to the mention the lens flare.
And the levels after that get even better.
Sonic has lost a tad of weight. He now looks thinner than in the original Sonic Adventure. And he now sports Soap shoes.
Gameplay is just exceptional. Sonic Team has now fixed a lot of the flaws that were wreaking havoc in Sonic Adventure. You can now streetboard and finally earn points for pulling off tricks. And you can now do gymnastics and jump onto bars that are placed above stairs and a few other places. Time your dismount correctly and you'll get more air time. Tails and Dr. Robotnik (But sonic and the gang prefer to taunt him once again by calling him Eggman, referencing to his egg-shaped body and his "egghead" mind.) now do battle in mechanized artillery machinery. Sonic and Shadow compete in a race to the finish, and Knuckles and Rogue go against each other in a treasure hunt to find hidden jewels.
As for the characters, S.A. 2 will feature the same number of 6 playable characters as last time. Except this time, you can now play as Shadow, Dr. Robotnik and Rogue too.
Rogue and Shadow are the two new character additions to the game. Shadow sports a type of hover shoes that work like rollerblades or skates that hover. He may not sport Soaps, like Sonic does, but he can still grind on rails and do gymnastics.
Rogue is notable for being the first Sonic character to have polygonal breasts that bounce. She also has a tad of a crush on a certain red Echidna named Knuckles (Of course, she won't admit it.) and is definitely inspired by Knuckles determination to protect the Master Emerald. Although her trustworthiness is in question.
Without any doubt, there's a definite chance that Sonic Adventure 2 could take over the title as the best-selling DC game and might make the best platformer of the year. After being a Sonic fan for the full 10 years, this is DEFINITELY it!
Happy 10th anniversary Sonic!

Sonic Adventure 2 is 10 times better than the first one. In this game you get to play as the evil guys in story mode.(Come on you know you've always wanted to.) You get to play as the good guys in story mode. Now that we've all finally grown out of that Crash phase, Sonic reminds us that he's the coolest character in all of gaming with the fastest and coolest levels you've ever played in your life. You get a 2 player versus mode featuring running, shooting, and hunting(Knuckles rocks!) that puts Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 to shame. You get 2 player Kart racing with all the characters and new levels that can be downloaded with the Dreamcast's modem. You also get a totally revamped Chao raising game. The A-Life game has been greatly improved and I guarantee it will keep you coming back to Sonic Adventure 2 for a long time. You also get Chao Adventure 2 to play on your VMU which the kids will love. There are so many options it's amazing what Sonic Team has included. There's even a Boss Battle mode where you can fight all the bosses in the game at once to see what your fastest time is. You can even download new menu themes, view all the cutscenes for the game and watch secret SA2 commercials. You also have aside from the story mode an action stage mode which features 5 missions each ala Super Mario 64 which will have you gladly going back to the levels over and over again trying to earn all 180 emblems. And trust me folks SA2 is overflowing with secrets to unlock. Getting all 180 emblems is very rewarding. Much better than getting to talk to Yoshi for 5 seconds. After you complete that you can go for all 'A' rankings on the levels and again more awesome secrets are unlocked. And trust me these levels are all wonderfully designed and amazing fun so you will want to go back and play them again especially Shadow and Sonic. The great thing about Sonic Adventure 2 is that you decide how much effort you want to put into it. Unlike most N64 platformers that force you to play and collect everything with no reward until the end, SA2 rewards you at every step of the way as you unlock all the awesome secrets of the game. The more effort you put into SA2 the more you are rewarded. This is definetly the best Dreamcast game I have ever played and will sadly be Sonic's last game ever to appear on a Sega console. This is the ultimate collectors item, but more importantly this is the ultimate game. Graphically this game is tops on Dreamcast as well. Shadow rules!
last and best sonic game on dreamcast

i have been waiting about a year and half for this game . At that time it wasn't officially announced, but i knew that they will make this game one day, and when i saw this yeaterday on the store i bought it right away. Anyway when i bought it, i thought it would be same as sonic adventure with better graphics, new characters, and new stages. But when i played for a while, i realized that this game was very different.
Differences- 1)you don't have to explore and find stages as if it's a RPG game. Like from sonic games from genesis, it brings you right to the action stage. 2)if you are thinking that this game is going to be too easy like the original SA you are wrong. This game's difficulty levels are much harder and more chellanging than the SA, and tails and Dr.Eggman's stages have puzzles to solve in order to proceed. ex. you have to find a switch to open doors. 3)it has many new moves and new options, such as grinding and chaos control and 2p play. 4)you don't pick a specific character and play only as him or her. Once you pick either hero or dark, 3 characters will constantly change as the story goes. 5)if you are playing as knuckles or rouge you are going to see that finding emeralds are more based on clues of the computer in the stages and the radars are not as accurate and reliable as SA. 6) in order to go to the chao world, you have to find the chao key in each stages, which makes it little harder. 7)you will find upgrade items in action stages since there is no such thing called adventure stages.(was that how it was called?) 8)and many more
so is the game better or worse than the original? i think it's better in most ways, but there are somethings that were better in SA.
better and pros- better graphics and details (obiously). less or no slow downs. no exploring. faster gamepplay. More chellanging stages. longer and bigger stages. excellent story (at least as far as i'm in right now.) minigames and 2p play. Many more.
and worse and cons- it might take too long to find emeralds=frustrating. it might be too fast and hard to play, especially as sonic and shadow, you might fall and die when you try to grind on a vine or rail. They say better but i think this game's camera's even worse than SA. The boss battles are less intersting and the vehicles are not good as doesn't look as cool as SA. Play time is short, about 12-15hours according to a website.
Although this game isn't perfect and have minor some cons, the general gameplay, graphic, difficulty level etc improved a lot. And it is one of the best dreamcast games and one of my favorite games. If you like Sonic, even just a little bit, buy this game now. It won't dissapoint you. And when i am done with this game, i will be waiting sonic adventure 3 on gamecube and hopefully on ps2. (since i have a ps2 and i am not planning on buying a gamecube for a long time.)

I've played Sonic Adventure 2 from the demo of Fantasy Star Online, and from what I've played this is going to be a classic game. The graphics are amazing, better then the first games which was still has awsome graphics. The games soung is great too, plus the characters voices are good. The lip sync of the characters could be a bit better, but it's still really good. Overall SA2 is going to be a classic for many reasons, thanks to this game Sega is going out in style. Also if you buy the game in the first couple days that it comes out you'll recieve a speacial box with some Sonic goodies because it's his 10th birthday. Happy Birthday Sonic for 10 great years of great games, and your last game of Dreamcast is going to go out with a bang!

And I'm glad he did! Lets face it people, it will never be the same playing a Sonic game on a non-Sega counsel! I know this game is coming to Gamecube...but seeing him on a Nintendo counsel (Who used to be Sega's biggest rival) is a bit strange! But if the true blue was going away, he was going away with a bang! And the result is "Sonic Adventure 2!" The first Sonic game for Dreamcast was a great game, but many people felt that most of the time they were just holding up on the analog most of the time! This is no longer a problem. Now you will have to turn...a lot!
That's right, no more running straight! Now it's time to actually make a few sharp turns in the game! Not to mention Sonic now has new moves which allowes him to grind, climb, follow rings in mid-air, flip, and snowboard! Sonic's new moves are great and stylish! Not only that, but Sonic's new rival Shadow has most of those moves (And some of his own) to add new challenges! The game is about rivals so you can choose weather or not to save the world or conquer it (It says so on the back of the box)!
There are problems though so don't think this is perfect! For one thing Tails (For some idiotic reason or another) spends his whole game in a robot shooting bullets instead of flying and stuff! I don't know WHAT he's doing THAT for...but it doesn't work for me!!! Next is the whole Knuckles/Rouge thing. These guys can glide, run fast, climb, punch and kick, and Sonic Team can't seem to give them anything better to do then search for pieces of the Master Emeralds!?! And these levels are slow, boring, and a bit on the tedious side!
Graphically speaking this game runs at a smooth 60 fps without a hint of slowdown! And at the speed this game goes at that's increadable! I don't think the PS2 could handle that speed (Although Gamecube might)! The english voices are still flawed and acted weakly, but now you have the choice to switch to the japanesse voices so I recomend you do so! The music is good, but for old times sake where the heck is some of the classic Sonic music? The Choa mini-game is fun and cute...but long!
I recomend you make sure you have time to take care of this stuff! What else am I missing...oh yeah the bosses rock! This is easily the best Sonic game yet! Although Sonic will now be on other game systems I'm glad that his last appearance on a Sega system turned out like this! Not that I have anything against "Sonic Shuffle," but that game would have been a weak exit for Sonic! If you own Dreamcast get this game! You won't be sorry!

Sonic Adventure 2 is all around a decent, although somewhat disappointing game. It had a lot of potential, and got surprisingly good reviews, but it did not live up to the hype. Don't get me wrong, Sonic/Shadow levels are awesome, and really fun despite being easy. I would even have to say that Sonic levels by themselves would nab a 5. The game's major fault, however, is the different levels for different characters. It would be fine to play with Knuckles or Tails in levels similar to Sonic ones. They are cool characters. But instead, Tails (as well as Eggman) are put into inane shooter levels. They are bearable, but detract from the games essence. The Knuckles/Rouge levels, on the other hand, are downright horrible, and possess almost no redeeming value (other than you get to be Knuckles, and glide, punch, and climb on things).
The storyline is surprisingly good and well thought out, as well as non-cliched, for a simple action game. Having a Hero and Dark sides of the storyline is really cool, and they help color each other in. The cut scenes are plentiful and well done, though the English voice acting is terrible (Japanese voices with English subtitles is preferable). The bosses and boss fights are interesting and added a special flare (at least the ones that weren't other playable characters). The graphics are nice. A little outdated, but good enough that it doesn't detract from the game. Though the camera is bad enough for it to be impossible to see any of the graphics anyway. On a side note, I think that is exactly how Sonic and Eggman look. I don't know what the other reviewers are talking about. The music is amusing at first, but seemingly not very well done (the menu screen music, if left running for ten minutes, is enough to drive one insane).
One last thing to mention: Chao World. It is a nice, adorable, well programmed, fun little diversion, but is ultimately pointless (especially without a working VMU).
All in all, Sonic Adventure 2 was cool, but with some infuriating flaws, like non-Sonic/Shadow levels, which pulled it down from 5 to 3 stars. Still, I would suggest buying it if you're looking for a little action or adventure. Have fun.

This is one of Sega's best games. I like to play with both of the good and bad sides. I can beat the ultamate life form, but I haven't gotten around to it. I like how they added masks for the chao, hero and dark gardens, kindergarten, and some different abilitys when you are in the gartens (kicking, slapping, petting, whistling, petting, and flying forever.) I only wish that there was an adventure field like in Sonic Adventure 1.

This is one of my favorite Dream Cast Games. It has good graphics, but when they talk it's like wacthing a Japenese Godzilla movie being translated into english.
You may be either the Dark or Light with each differnt levels and story line. The characters you get are Shadow, Rouge, Dr. Robotink, Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles.
You also unlock SoundTracks you can listen to in the Options menu. I never really pay much attention to this though.
My favorite thing in this game has to be the Kart Racing Feature You unlock in the Tails and Rouge chase level.
This is also for two players too.
You can also get new objectives in the level you beaten in the extras menu.
Overall this is a cool game you must buy it when you get the chance.

Sonic Adventure 2 is a sequel to Sega's original smash hit Sonic adventure, but the graphics are much more advanced than Sonic Adventure. It has many characters to choose from like, Sonic the hedgehog,Tails the two-tailed fox,Knuckles the echidnia,Dr.Robotnick,Rouge the bat,and Shadow the Hedgehog. I think its Sega's best game yet and I encourage them to make Sonic Adventure 3, or something.
