Huge number of technical problems

Unfortunately it appears to be badly bugged for many people. Problems include inability to play online as game freezes on login in screen. Some people are unable to even play offline without physically disconnecting their computer from the internet as the game tries to log you in online to verify your software. This problem occurs even for those who have their DVD in their drive.

Should be a good game if they figure the bugs out.

Fun, but flawed

Fun, very unstable. I have 4 gig of RAM and an ATI X1900XT but, like its predecessor COH, Opposing Fronts crashes about 2 of 3 loads. You just get into a skirmish against the PC and it crashes. The patches are difficult to find, take a LONG time to download, and then don't really improve anything. Still, I've downloaded all the patches and the game still crashes constantly.

ruined multiplayer

Relic, Relic, Relic.... why did you go and thoroughly ruin a multiplayer experience that needed to be fixed in the first place? The updated graphics look nice, but have made multiplayer 4v4 games so laggy that the games are unplayable now. When will progammers learn that it's about the overall experience and not just the graphics? I've got a pretty good system too (C2D, NVidia 7800GT) but since multiplayer is p2p, it's dependent on everyone's systems.. and most can't handle the new expansion.

AVOID

A nightmare to get up and running.
Straight after installation the first thing it does is want to download a 140Mb patch, which fails to complete after several attempts.
I downloaded the pathc seperately, extracted it, and so far I have been unable to get the patch to install.
i.e. I haven't yet played this DX10 game on my DX10 card.

Absolute fiasco!!

Please fix the bugs!

I purchased CoH and loved it, and as far as I remember, it was fairly stable. Now with Opposing Fronts, as soon as load a map, it crashes, and freezes my computer. This is a known DX10 issue that even with the latest update from Relic, has not been properly addressed. It happens to users with both NVIDIA and ATI cards from the last generation (7XXX for Nvidia cards)- if you go read the relic forums, it's a common issue.

Until they fix this bug, I can't play the game, much less give it more than 1 star. However, for the few brief moments that I was able to play, I like the new British units. I'm a fan of defense and turtling up, so the new British fixed emplacements (howitzers, Bofors guns, Mortars, 17 pndr AT-gun) are an interesting new addition.

***************UPDATE*************************
After the most recent game and Nvidia updates, the game is finally rock solid! THIS is the product that they should've released, rather than the buggy version. The campaign missions can be played without crashing, HOWEVER, the skirmish maps crash repeatedly. Which stinks in terms of keeping the game around for replay-ability...

I could actually finish all the campaigns without a single glitch. The graphics and physics are incredible, the new units are a hoot to play with. Like I mentioned above, I'm a big fan of the British. The 17 pndr and 25 pndr AT-guns and howitzers respectively deal out more damage than the American 105s, and the Priest can rain destructive power down on any part of the battlefield. The Panzer Elite doesn't feel as different from the regular Wehrmacht as the British do from their American counterparts. Panzer Elite plays like a stronger armored force, and that's about it.

If only they had fixed their bugs earlier, I would've given them a much higher rating!

If you purchase this game you will be sorry.

This has to be the worst install and update system I have ever seen in a game. The patches dont come in one patch but several large incremental patches that you must suffer through and restart the game for each. Even after installing the patches the game tends to lock up and bog down. I am running a 3.4Hz system with high end Nvida graphics card.

This game I feel was a total waist of $39. It also forced me to patch my working COH original and it too has become unstable.

What a buggy POS this is....

I have never seen a more buggy game. Patch after patch after patch. On # 4 now and it won't launch. Finally had it working after extensive emails to customer suupport then, today, it decided it needed another 112MB patch. After downloading it, it supposedly patched but on relaunch still wants the patch. ARRRGGHHH! Who is writing this crappy code and who is checking it? I just want to come home from work and play a little game...instead its sheer frustration.
I understand their desire for copyright protection, but their requirements for you to jump through so many hoops is ridiculous. THQ you should be ashamed....

The worst and most greedy software release ever.

The original COH was great, until this "expansion" comes out. Opposing Fronts is extremely buggy. The game freezes all the time. Worse, after you kill the frozen game, it won't recognize your DVD any more. So, you have to reinstall it. Worse yet, the updates cannot be downloaded into your hard drive, so you will have to wait for the 200MB download every time you do the reinstallation. If you think this is frustrating enough, you have not seen half of it yet. The Panzer Elite faction in this expansion was made super strong, as in the super human sense. Even a newbie playing Panzer Elite can easily, and I mean easily, defeat a veteran of the original game. I suppose the vendor wants to make sure you buy the new package instead of staying with the old COH. To make sure you absolutely do not have that option, they also force you to play against Panzer Elite in multiplayer setting. There is no way to opt out!

And to add insult to injury, they sell the expansion pack as a "stand-alone", i.e. full price. After I bite the bullet and pay up, I realize that I still cannot get the great gaming experience back because everyone else in the multiplayer lobby wants to play Panzer Elte, and two such players cannot play against each other. So, I either have to join the other 17 players in waiting for a clueless cannon fodder to come along, or I have to be that cannon fodder. Either way, it is no fun.

Definitely some bugs and they ruined the original

I have to agree with the other posters. Something causes my machine to crash quite often when I am playing Opposing Fronts. The original COH was smooth and quite reliable. Somehow, in their rush to get the graphics slightly better and sounds more authentic, the gameplay has slowed for the original american and German forces. If you are not in a rush, I would wait until the next major update to all the crash problems are addressed. It's definitely frustrating and shame on you Relic for releasing such a piece of buggy software. You should have waited instead of wanting the $$$$ so soon. This will come back to haunt you. I would not recommend this to my friends yet.

Might be a good game - I wouldn't know

Company of heroes heralds 9-9.5 in the ratings from most magazines, instilling in me the eager desire to play this game. However, after purchase I would have to say the game is more problem than it is worth.
If you own Windows Vista DO NOT GET THIS GAME. I have run 4 patches for CoH, 2 hotfixes for Windows Vista, and have posted my problems to their lame technical forum all to no avail. If you want to spend $40 then spend an additional 8-72 hours of your time trying to get the game running then CoH is the game for you. However, I would recommend from personal experience to invest your money elsewhere.
