I have yet to even play this game due to the EXTREMELY long patching process. It is seriously on patch number 5 right now. WTF!!! I have been literally been installing this game well past the 2 hour mark. I have high speed internet and a super speedy gaming rig. This patching nonsense is for the birds. I dont care HOW fun this game is, it will always be tarnished by the most excruciating installation in the history of PC games. If you enjoy watching kids cry and baby seals getting clubbed, this is the game for you. You WILL be aggravated.

Some cheese for the whine....

I've been playing CoH since November '06, CoH:OF since it's release. It's a great, addictive game. I love WWII theme games, especially the FPS genre (Call of Duty, Medal of Honor). This truly the first RTS game that ever held my attention for more than a couple tries. I've played one of Relic's other RTS games, Homeworld, which was very good, but I find CoH is much more engrossing. It does have a steep learning curve, especially online, as some of the players are very good, but there are plenty of forums to visit to get strategy tips (GameReplays, Relic, etc), system setup advice, etc. Those forums also tend to whip up much of the P&M you see here in the reviews.

The new factions of Panzer Elite and the British have really spiced up the online play. No longer are you always going to be battling the same opponents with the same strategies. Each faction requires it's own unique style of gameplay and strategies are numerous. Each has strengths and weaknesses, which you must use to your advantage. This is not your typical "amass an army and attack" RTS game, you must be proactive and constantly on the move.

The game is not perfect, it does have it's bugs, but so does the $5000 CAD software package I use at work. This is also just a game, if it's being patched, hit "download" and go pick your nose, read a book or do something constructive. Being PO'd that the patches are too big is moronic. If you've got a 56k modem, don't buy this game if you intend upon playing online. The last patch, which was 136M, took about 6 minutes to download over my cable modem through the in game interface. IMHO, at least this game tells you that a patch is required, unlike may of it's predecessors.

My system is 3 1/2 years old. I run an Athlon 64 3.0 cpu, GeForce 6800GT 256mb card, 1 gig memory, 80 gig drive and XP Pro. Hardly state of the art, but plenty to play this game online and in multiplayer games. I keep the graphics settings in the midrange and the game runs fine. I've never had a gameplay issue that I couldn't fix with a simple post or search at one of the above forums.

Difficult install, but good game

I have played PC games for as long as there have been PC's and I must say that this game was, by far, the most difficult to install of any of I have played. It should be known that I have the original Company of Heroes and had no difficulty with it, so although I read about other people have trouble with Opposing Fronts I didn't think they would apply to me.

First I had to upgrade to the latest divers for my video card, although it was not clear that I had to do so. I did that when the game didn't fully install to begin with. Then, I had to 'step thru' upgrades to the most current version. By stepping thru, I mean I could not upgrade to the latest version all at once. For instance, I had to install version 1.1, then 1.2, then 1.3. Also, it should be noted that I have a very fast Internet connection, and the upgrades took 1+ hour each. After finally getting the game to work I played it for about 10 days, then when I went to play it I was forced to upgrade again. But, the upgrade would not fully install, because of a bug in the software. (At least their tech support replied to my email in a timely manner, but that's not the point. There should have never been a problem to begin with.)

The game is fun to play and has great graphics, etc. It plays very much like the original game. If they come out with another version I will read the reviews before I buy it. There are too many games that are just as fun to play and don't have install issues.

continuation of the revolution

Company of Heroes is the biggest step forward for RTS games since Starcraft. Opposing Fronts continues the series and doubles the available armies from 2 to 4! I have been playing for like 15 months and still am not bored.

Not quite as good as the CoH original, but still very fun!

It's not quite as good as Company of Heroes, but this stand alone expansion pack is still quite fun, and is pretty long for how low the price is. It also can merge with CoH and enable you to use more units and armies online.
Recommended if you are a fan of CoH!

Single Player

This is an excellent game and fun, but I would have liked more in it for the SINGLE-PLAYER. TOO many games are not set up for the single player and should be marked on outside of box as to how much content would be accessible to SINGLE PLAYERS VS MULTIPLAYER GAMING.

A masterpiece!!

Excellent game with awesome campaigns, and mission difficulty. This game is a challenging one that keeps you tight on your seat all the time that a campaign lasts, because when you think that everything is almost done the computer strikes you back and can even destroy you as fast as the counterattack came. You can only depend on your strategy to survive to any challenge! Relic manage to improve the expansion compared with the main game adding two strategic types of gameplay, and strong deffensive faction (english) and the fast offensive faction (axis). A perfect gaming combined with awesome graphics, and very accurate missions. Again, like the main game, I think that it has a flaw, and it resides in the fact that missions are almost of the same type: Holding strategic points, destroying enemy headquarters, and conquering the map, but putting aside this issue I can highly reconmend it! I think that this game will last in the history of history based strategic games ever done, like age of empires did.

Excellent game -- could be better if it wasnt rushed out the door

While not as great as the first, It could have been.

The theme of CoH is still alive and well, and the ability to play all four factions at this point is awesome.

cons-
Buggy game, constantly changing balance/rules.

Overall, still a must have if you like RTS games.

This game is actually an expansion to the original game, but it almost seemed like a stand alone game in itself. It's a very good add-on to the original and continued on with the theme. If you liked the original you'll definitely like this one.
