Unique and very fun game

Don't overlook this gem of a game. Grab it while you still can! Many people may pass on this title due to it not having a rock star or celebrity associated with it, like a lot of sports games now do, but this game is about inline skating and spray painting the streets.. It's got challenging levels, and the bad guys who chase you are creative and non-stop. I'm enjoying this game very much and each new section that opens up as I progress is a tad bit harder and has more fun than the previous. I play a lot of games, and this one is a definate buy on my list.

This game is okay. The beats are great. The control is what basically ruins it. Not being able to control which tricks you do damages the game also. You could easily skip this game, or merely rent it before you buy it.

I would have to say this is one of the best games for the Dreamcast. The basic plot is that the freedom of self-expression is all but banned in the city of Tokyo-To (like Tokyo, but it's not Tokyo.) where the sinister Rokkaku Corporation has teamed up with the local government to stamp out graffiti. You are a member of the GGs,and you must go around spraying in the three different districts of Shibuya-Cho,where you face the gang of dumped girls, the Love Shockers,Benten-Cho,where you're taking turf from the Noise Tanks, and Kogane-Cho,where you're up against the horror movie-loving Poison Jam. And if that isn't enough, you have to face some very colorful Rivals who challenge you to copy their moves, you can design your own graffiti, and the cops (led by the'70s flashback Chief Onimusha) are chasing you, sending in everything from standard officers (why do they wear white uniforms?) to TANKS (on one Benten-Cho level) The music is great, supplied by Professor K of Jet Grind Radio, the pirate station in Tokyo-To...I want to get a soundtrack for this game!
5 stars...one of the main reasons more people should've tried Dreamcast.

Bringing the funk

If you like good music, good fun, and a good challenge, it's hard to go wrong with Jet Grind Radio. It's fast paced, unique and very hard to put down. The first thing that will grab you is the style of the game. The graphics are very nicely cel shaded and the music will keep you jamming along nodding your head. The music isn't all golden, but for the most part, it's wonderful.

The gameplay is rather simple but very fun. Skate around, find red arrows, spray paint your tag. All the while avoid cops, tear gas, dogs, even missile launching helicopters. It's hard and frustrating at times, but it's oh so worth it. You'll keep coming back for more and more.

The game stands up to repeat plays, and the style never wears thin. The story is entertaining and well told by DJ K. Unlike so many games where the story between levels is the dull part, you'll be jamming along with DJ K all the way through. It's quite hard not to be brought into the Jet Set Radio universe. It's very well done.

If you still have your Dreamcast around and you never gave this one a shot, try it. You may be quite surprised.

Jet Grind Radio is not your average skating game and that's what I love about this game. It's hip, it's new and fresh something that's has never bin done before. Jet Grind is not only a terrific Dreamcast game but it simply one of the best Dreamcast games next to Shenmue and Soul Calibur. The game is an instant classic that no one with a Dreamcast should miss out on. The game is extreamly original and a very underrated gem, heck this is better then the Tony Hawk series. It has a pretty cool story. You're are the GG's a skate gang that pretty much takes over other groups of skaters turfs and to make matters worse you are being chased by a ruthless cop and his minions(AKA swat teams)and Tanks, Helicopters and so on. This game unlike the sequal JET SET RADIO FUTURE is more challenging because it has a timer. The games level desighn just keep getting better and better and the best part about this game is.....THE MUSIC. This game has the best music next to Metal Gear Solid. The music will really get you into this game which if really awesome. The game is also pretty original cause you can spray grafiti on walls, trash cans, windows ect. And no game has ever pulled this off but this game is Cell shaded and is very well done. Every character and level is so well desighned that your mouth will be drooling in such amazment. Put simply...the visuals in this game are amazing. I'm going to make this short and sweet.

PROS
-This game has extreamly addicitve gameplay
-The cell shading in this game is absolutley amazing~
-Very Original and ten times better then the rest of those Skating games..

-The Characters compared to the enviroment look nothing alike which gives the game some flavor..

-BEST MUSIC EVER! This game has some really awesome tracks inculding Rob Zombies "Dragula"

Cons...
-.............Nothing

Overall Jet Grind Radio lives up to my opinion as the best game for the Dreamcast and is highly original very addictive. It has sweet cell shaded visuals which even put games like Zelda Wind Waker to shame. The game is a bit of challenge with the Timer and everthing.. Overall Jet Grind Radio screams Originality and awesome....

Final Verdict.. This game truly deserves its

5 out of 5 stars

And I'm sticking to it......Jet Grind Radio is....AMAZING..

This game brings something new on the graphics departament, they are awesome , 3D cartoon like characters. The cities are huge also, and you can interact with almost anything on it , which gives the game a great sense of reality. The concept of the game's as cool as the characters are but the gameplay has serious flaws. First of all it's the camera which is not auto (at least on the import version) and you must correct it on every turn so you don't crash with anything that delays you (a wall or corner) and you don't have a aerial panning when you have to jump to a narrow space (a beam, and there's a lot of them). Speaking of jumps, the game's phisics doesn't help you either, i recap, your timing must be perfect to land on narrow spaces specially when you are pressed by a time trial (must frustrating), and when you jump it fells as if you were on the matrix. To finish, the controls aren't too responsive, so if you are going to play, play on small time intervals, so your fingers wont suffer, specially your right trigger finger (believe me on this). But if what you are looking for is a game with a radical new concept this is your game.

Jet Grind Radio = Stupid (Americanized) Name, Great Game

I own the import version of Jet Grind Radio (called Jet Set Radio, a much better name) and it is one of the best games out for any system this year. It is chock-full of originality, has amazingly well done gameplay, and has beautiful graphics. Unfortunatly, the camera has not been fixed for the US release, and the American cover is simply pathetic when compared to the Japanese cover, but oh well. If you own a Dreamcast, do yourself a favor and pick up the game.

Fun but, over too quick

Jet Grind Radio is one of the the best games ever... while it lasts. It kept me hooked for about 2 days! After I beat it I played for about 2 more days and felt no need to play more. RENT IT.

Jet Grind Radio is the kind of game you can just play forever (or at least it seems.) For those who "get" the premise, they'll find endless interest in trying to perfect their grinds, find more runs, more tricks, and just see how far you can push your ideas and the game. Jet Grind Radio is the kind of game that rewards those who like to really spend time with their games. If you're a more casual gamer, you may be disappointed that working through the game, seeing every level, is not that hard nor takes that long.
