While this game may not teach a great moral lesson (graphiti is fun!), it's still a blast to play. It's got a whole lot of style and you can tell that it's straight out of Japan. I love the music too; it's strange, but in a good way. I just wish it was longer.
The best!

Everything was done right with this game. It's an amusing, interesting, unique game concept. The graphics use an outline technique that makes a 3-d world of 2-d characters, to produce an effect something like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?". I generally can't take video game music, and I used to live in Japan and hated J-pop even more, but the soundtrack for this game is great, has some genuinely cool tunes. Gameplay is smooth and fun, and baddies have an over-the-topness to them that matchs the cartoon atmosphere.
There's unfortunately minor difficulties with slowdown and camera angles. Aside from these problems, this is a game like Pac-Man, a really unique idea that's executed so well there's nothing that could be improved upon. I think this is the best game for the Dreamcast (or any other system!) and strongly recommend it.
The Best Title For Dreamcast

Easily the greatest title for Dreamcast that appeals towards all age groups and just slightly surpasses Shenmue, the greatest game of all time. The whole concept of the game is aggressive skating around a pseduo Tokyo called Tokyo-To while sprayin' graffiti while being chased by the cops. Interesting concepts include different ways the "fuzz" can lower your health and thus putting you to an end. Some ways they accomplishe that feat are tear gas, billy clubs, motorcycles, heat seeking missles, rubber bullets and the list goes on. Also, JGR has intinuitive control allowing you to use the same button to JUMP, GRIND, and DO TRICKS. The level designs are AWESOME by allowing you to free skate in the half-pipe, skitch the local traffic, and ruin the play-time for the kiddies in the playground. The most interesting prospect in the game is CREATING YOUR OWN GRAFFITI TAGS, so easy to do, no wonder its #1. After you create your own original tags, you can swap with other JGR freaks over SegaNet, now how can you beat that. Also, you can downlaod JPEG pictures off the Net on your DC, save them to the VMU and use them in the game. The music is the BEST you have ever heard, the original Japanese JGR tunes are intact and some American bands have been included in the mix. Those include Rob Zombie, Mix Master Mike, Cold, and Jurassic 5. And finally, the graphics are sweet like sugar for one reason, CELL-SHADING. Well, if my review hasen't forced you to buy this GREAT GAME, you have problems.

A hugely anticipated Dreamcast game scores big once again. Jet Grind Radio features great cartoony graphics and excellent control. With a weird but fun concept JGR is a great funnygame to play. The point is to skate around an area and spray paint marked areas while avoiding the police. You can pick between diiferent skaters make your own logo and do some awesome tricks. Jet grind Radio is a must own.
Original, a new concept.

Rather than re-hashing a genre that was old 5 years ago, SEGA has created something entirely new and fresh, and they have succeded. They took a risk and pulled it off.In Jet Grind you are a hoodlum/skater/dancer type who rollerblades around in beutifully animated environmentsm spray painting everything from police chiefs to playground signs. You can also create your own graffiti(nothing to ellaborate, but still cool)and that adds to the replay valua. The characters are so beutifully animated in fact you'll spend at least 30 minutes of play time just staring at Tab or Beat wondering how they could make it look so good. This game isn't good for any one real reason, it's just so totally funny , crazy, and original that you have to love it.Check it out.

Jet Grind Radio is a really unique game. There has never been a game like this (as far as I know).
The graphics are amazing. It goes perfect with the game and it's cool looking. You gotta see it to belive it.
The gameplay is good and packs a lot of fun but the main problem is the sloppy control. Half the time you will be screwing up because of those ... controls.
The sound is very good. There are so many songs in the game and the sound effects are sweet. But the cops get annoying though.
Overall, this game was great and it's worth experiencing at least once. I recommend renting this first and making your decision on buying it or not.

This game is totally wicked!! You're basically playing a gang of kids who rollerskate around the streets of Tokyo-To and spraypaint the whole place. There are some required targets to spraypaint, like walls and cars etc. In the meantime, you have to avoid police officials, tanks and other gang members - While new members try to join you (who you can select to play with). And when you're spraypainting - you can skate around the city and perform tricks, like flips and grinding along railing. This may seem rather dull in writing, but believe me that it will totally blow you away.
What makes this game so great though, is that it packs loads of style. The game is in 3D, but they've added a cell-shader, which draws an outline around the 3D models - making them look very cartooney. The graphics are filled with that and very bright, vibrant colours.
The game is full of movement, which keeps it at an incredible pace. Everything on the screen is moving like they're doing it to the beat of the music - which is very cool as well. You have some hiphop influenced background tunes and the soundtrack features some guest appearances like Jurassic 5 and Mix Master Mike.
There are some downsides to this great game though, but they don't spoil the overall fun at all. They're just a bit annoying. Like spraypainting and adjusting the camera is done with the same button. That can be a real pain when you have to chase opposing gangmembers and spraypaint them. The other one is that you're on the run from bad guys constantly. And they can get annoying when you're just trying to finish spraying your tag.
Other than that, this is a great game that truly shows the power of the Dreamcast.
Microsoft is lucky to have Jet Grind Radio Future!

When I first saw commercials for this, I didn't think much of it (primarily because I didn't own a Dreamcast then) but soon I found out how great the game is. I won't ramble about the plot like some ... do, but I will point out pros and cons
PROS
*Great gameplay, there aren't many buttons to use but it gets easy to play
*Very Very Innovative
*You have to love a game where you can spray paint really cool designs in a second
*Cool graphics, the backrounds look great and the cel-shaded characters are cool (even though now most games are copying cel-shaded graphics to look "cooler")
*Cool soundtrack- I know that "Dragula" is in here, but otherwise you'll find some good backround music (although there is some Asian-style Euro Pop in there)
Cons
*Too short- I was finished in a few days, I am an average gamer so an actually skilled gamer would breeze right through this game but hopefully it will be worked on in the sequel
*Poor trick sceme- Most of the time, you can only do tricks during a grind or dashing on a half-pipe. You have no control over what trick/grind you perform and each character has a limited amount of tricks so it gets repetative but it is being worked on for the sequel
* No multiplayer-There could of been some fun Multiplayer games but that's being worked on for the sequel
"*" I don't consider it a con, I consider it as a pro but there are some who will think this way. The themes of See-Cop-Run-Away and See-arrow-and-tag-it aren't really good for strict parents, but most shouldn't care because the game itself is too much fun the theme set aside
That's about it for my opinions and I applaud SEGA for making and importing this game to America. If there were more games like this there would be, aside from less pressure on developers that America can handle wackier and more serious games that I have seen and heard out of Japan. Microsoft is lucky SEGA is giving them this golden series and is the reason some people (like me!) will get an Xbox FOR THE GAMES!! I know the Xbox is great and all, but there aren't as many good games as I would like.
Thank you and please let this influence your descison

Everything about Jet Grind Radio has classic written all over it. The anime style graphics and some great original gameplay keep you entangled in the game for days. Not much plot, but who cares, basically you play an angry teenager skating around spraypainting public property and outrunning and outmanuvering the cops while doing it. After the first real mission, the game gets downright addicting and even more fun than before, something SEGA is great at doing with most of their in-house developed games. The soundtrack is surprisingly decent too even though I'm not into hip-hop at all, tracks from Rob Zombie, Cold, and Professional Murder Music add to the replay value. The only problem with Jet Grind Radio is that there is no multi-player internet mode which would have made this the greatest game ever made, but thats only a minor gripe. All in all an excellent game that any Dreamcast owner should have.
Great game - and a must have at $9.99!

Wow, this is a great game at any price and is a real steal at $9.99. I'm 36 and I love this game and it's also a favorite of my six year old. The description tells you what the game is like but I'd like to add a little. The controls are very intuitive and it's easy to pull off some really impressive tricks. The locations in the game are really varied. The soundtrack is excellant. And best of all, you get that trademark Japanese wackiness. This is probably my favorite of the 30 or so Dreamcast games we own. Buy this if you have a Dreamcast. I can't believe this wasn't ported to other systems.
