Must get Super Mario Galaxy!

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 1 / 1

This game rocks! I played Mario games on NES and SNES and I am glad that I bought Super Mario Galaxy. This is my 2nd Mario game for the Wii and this is way better than Mario Party 8 (for single player that is)

The graphics aren't like Xbox 360 but they're very colorful, the music is great, and the fun factor is there which is most important to me.

What I don't like is the 2 player co-op. It's a bit distracting so I just play solo. You can play as Luigi if you collect about 120 stars but I feel you should have the option to play him or Mario whenever you want.

The game seems easy at first but the more stars you collect, the more harder it gets.

I highly recommend Super Mario Galaxy if you're old school Nintendo player like me. You will NOT regret it.

Pros: Colorful graphics. Fun Factor! Great Music!
Cons: 2 player co-op is poor.

Great Fun but Gets Old

While the game is clever and original and everything everyone expected in a game stretching the limits of platform gaming, it has two major problems.

The first, as many people have mentioned, are the camera angles. Usually, the camera does an amazing job of keeping you and enemies in view, but just as often you cannot tell where you are going and you make a leap of faith, hoping that you don't die. However, you will probably have so many lives that dying won't be a problem.

The second, is that the game presents no challenge. Some levels are difficult. Some levels get made difficult with the "Comets" in orbit, changing the rules. However, in this game you are incapable of going the wrong direction as long as you keep moving forward. No matter what direction you take, as long as it isn't back the way you came, you will proceed toward the star. There is no longer any search involved or thought. Most puzzles are simple and straightforward, and you can play most of the levels with very minimal attention.

The game is fun for quite a while, but after about 70 stars gathered without effort, interest can be lost.

Hours of fun

My kids got this for Christmas and they are amazed by the graphics and the different places one can go. The only draw back is the fact it is more a single player game with very little to do as a second player.

Best Mario Ever!

As someone who grew up playing Mario on the NES and SNES and then kind of lost interest in the series as soon as the Sega Genesis came on the scene, it was an absolute joy to play a game that felt so much like those early Mario games.
For the last decade or so I've played sports games almost exclusively, regardless of the system. Once I got a Wii, that changed completely. Games like Super Mario Galaxy make platformers enjoyable again and show an incredible amount of ingenuity not only in the control but in gameplay in general.
This game is very, very deep and provides hours upon hours of gameplay. The levels and bosses are difficult enough to provide a challenge, but easy enough to still feel like a Mario game.
I absolutely love this game.

My favorite Wii game so far.

One of my all time favorite games was Mario 64. This takes similar gameplay mechanics and level design and brings the game into the "next-generation".

THIS GAME SHINES WITH GREAT LEVEL DESIGN AND INGENUITY.

The play difficulty has a good range, so that I think someone without much experience can get into it... though I suggest they start at the beginning to learn the moves. My first time playing was in a game store and I had a hard time, because I didn't know the new moves Mario had. Keep that in mind if you play it in a store. Otherwise, I think that this can appeal to both younger audience (as it is playable for them) and hard-core gamers as there is sufficient difficulty.

An inclusion of multi-player cooperative is fun, but I don't think it's meant for two hard-core gamers. The second player can be played quite well by small kids, which has been great with my nephews and niece. They simply point and collect the star bits, and have great fun with it.

What a great game

I'm not particularly a huge Mario fan and bought this for my son from the great reviews I read about it. I tried it out and was immediately hooked. What a fantastic game, completely lives up to the hype.

Incredible Game.

It is incredible the imagination used to make this game. They play wonderful with dimension and forces like gravity and inercy. You can turn into a Ghost, into a bee, you can fly and skate on ice, even ride in a bubble. The graphics are awesome, as well as the animation. It is not very difficult but it is very entertaining.

Super Mario Galaxy Takes Me Back

I was a bit hesitant at first when considering whether to buy Super Mario Galaxy. I had always enjoyed the original Super Mario Brothers series on the NES but that was years ago. However when Amazon ran a deal and cut the price of the game I had to give it a try. I'm very glad that I did!

A few reviewers have commented that the game gets old after a while because you play the same type of boards over and over. I don't think anything could be further from the truth. The game designers in my opinion did a great job of varying the planets and galaxies to keep the game interesting. In addition, as you progress through the game the individual levels get longer, more complicated, and you must solve tougher puzzles to progress through each level.

I think the addition of mini-games at various times throughout the game as well as the chapter-by-chapter telling of the story of the observatory is another way that they keep the game fresh and interesting. For anyone that enjoyed the original Super Mario Brothers and the 32 two dimensional boards contained within it, you will love the 120 or so boards in this game and the incredible 3D play. Give it a try and I think you'll be hooked.

Rebounding From "Sunshine"

Being a dye-in-the-wool Nintendo fan, I have always enjoyed the new Mario titles that seem to be the stalwart of the franchise. I spent way too many hours of my life playing the original Super Mario Bros. (plus sequels), as well as Super Mario World for the SNES. Then, as with most people, Super Mario '64 absolutely blew me away with its 3-D graphic interface. However, I was disappointed in the Gamecube effort Super Mario Sunshine, which just didn't seem to have the right "Mario feel" to it. Super Mario Galaxy, however, brought me back into the Mario "universe" (excuse the pun) big time!

The controls and premise of this game harkens back to the revolutionary Mario '64, in which players must collect stars (or, in this case, star creatures) in a variety of different ways. The graphics are pristine, the cut scenes are fun, and the controls are easy to pick up and play.

Though panned as being a "kids game", Mario Galaxy offers something for both the beginning and advanced gamers. By collecting 70 of the 120 total stars (a task that is by no means impossible), Bowser can be defeated and effectively "end" the game. However, more advanced games can shoot for the full 120 stars and see the "true" ending.

Overall, this game is another success in the long line of the Mario franchise. After mixed reviews for Mario Sunshine, Nintendo went back to the basics in this game and created a masterpiece. I'm looking forward to the next installment (rumored to be a sequel to this game?!).

Grossly addicting

When I saw the package, the namby pamby looking characters almost put me off. But reading literally dozens of reviews citing innovative gameplay won me over.

And those reviews were right.

Keeping in mind, this is technically a kids' game, it's easy to immerse one's self into the Mario Galaxy universe to complete the tasks. And if you think that sounds simple, it isn't.

The game's innovations come through the third dimension - literally. Walking up and down areas from a visual perspective that doesn't follow suit, this game excels at transforming the lore it started in 1985 -- and, at first, it comes across as jarring to be fighting nasties from a sideways or even upside down perspective, but that's part of the fun - and lasting value as I've never come across anything like this before. In short, mobility rocks.

If I were to have a gripe, maybe it is too cute-looking, and Nintendo did not need to superglue in the Mario lore for 'marketing and product identification' or whatever the money making term is -- this game is an innovative and creative adventure of its own accord. The Mario aspect is merely icing on a cake so rich it wouldn't have been necessary to include these old trademarks to garner interest.

As usual, Nintendo ups the ante with game focus and niche audiences, which is why the Wii became - and will remain - successful.

And, yeah, it's worth $50. :)
