First off, let me recommend Super Mario Galaxy as a very fun game. It has an easy learning curve and you don't need to read the manual to play it, so anyone can just pick up and play. Veterans of the Mario series will find a lot of familiar themes, like items that transform Mario into a different mode with different abilities (Bee Mario, Fire Mario, Ice Mario). What's new is that the worlds that Mario explores are collections of small planets and he hops between them. Sometimes Mario uses star-slingshots to shoot farther.
I'm not an expert gamer, and as I've been playing through Galaxy it's been an easy and relaxing experience. Each world takes about ten to twenty minutes, so it's not a big time investment to start a new world. The low-key nature of this game means that you can play it off and on and not feel like you absolutely have to finish it; I've been playing for a month or so, once every few days, and I'm maybe 3/4 of the way through the game. I haven't finished it yet, though, so I may have further to go than I think!
The style of this game actually reminds me of Donkey Kong Country: it's relatively easy to complete each level, but if you want to find the secrets it gets much much harder. Overall, this is a well-rounded game that isn't too addictive nor too boring. If you have a Wii, get this game!

I don't know how the other Wii 'Mario' games are, but this one is definitely worthwhile. The graphics and audio are great and it is challenging as well. This game is lots of fun.

To be honest, after the original Mario I wasn't a big fan of the numerous incarnations that followed.
Until Now.
I purchased this for my young son, who asked for some help learning how to play the game. Two months later we are both utterly addicted it has become a regular household event.
Like all good games, it has fantastic stylized graphics, sound effects, and music. But the real wow comes from brilliant game play design like you've never experienced. Each galaxy, out of dozens, is chock full of new kinds of bad guys (bugs, robots, animals, etc), each with new kinds of attacks, in lands full of strange new challenges. Gravity is manipulated, play surfaces range from disappearing tiles to lava, and worlds may be in space or under water, the list goes on. Throughout the game, Mario gains access to magic mushrooms allowing new fun powers or abilities: bee flight, spring jumping, ghostly body, fireballs, and more.
I really can't say enough, this game is simply brilliant. Buy it without hesitation.
Easily the best 3D platformer ever created

Nintendo has outdone themselves with this one. They've made a game that is not only beautiful, but extremely fun to play and very well crafted. It has exactly what a great platformer needs: straightforward, yet imaginative level design and spot on controls. Not only does it have those, but the plays on gravity are excellent and there are even moments where the game switches to a 2 and a half D style, which is fantastic and all very seemlessly integrated into this world (if you're not familiar with the term 2.5D, it's 3D graphics with 2D gameplay).
Everyone that calls themselves gamers should have this game. It's simply one of the most fun and best games around.
Very good

I have three children plus nieces and nephews ranging from 2 to 22 and they all love this game. It is easy enough my 4 year old can play and I like it too which I don't like very many and they have ruined the new spyro games by making them too complicated but this game has true staying power. I own about 30 wii games and they play this one the most.

I've been a long time mario gamer since it's nes and game boy days. When you thought the N64 version of Mario was the best ever, Nintendo created something even better.
The gravity system and controls in the game is intuitive. The levels are beautifully designed and of course, the music is well orchestrated.
This game also has a 2 player co-op mode which the second player can help to get star bits while the first player controls mario. It's good for players who get too nervous dodging enemies and flying between galaxies.
If you're looking for a good wii game, I'm sure this game will keep you entertained for a long time with its extensive levels.
BUY IT and you won't regret it.
Best Wii Game to Date, Period!

This is without a doubt the best Wii game to date. I had been waiting for this game for a while seeing as it didn't launch with the Wii. Mario Galaxy is a great game for anyone to play, but for some people it may have a little bit of a learning curve seeing how you sometimes walk upside down and at weird angles. This is pretty simple to get used to and shouldn't be too much of a hinder.
All in all the game is not too difficult and most people will probably think it is too easy to actually just beat the game. While this is true for just getting the minimum 60 stars that you need to beat the game, if you attempt to get all 120 you will find it a lot more challenging. This game has everything you want in a game, great graphics, sound, story, and gameplay. If you own a Wii I highly recommend picking this title up, you won't regret it.
Best Super Mario game ever made.

I have played Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and New Super Mario Bros. on the DS in recent years (plus the original Mario 1, 2, and 3 in the past), and can say without a doubt this is the best Super Mario game ever made. It takes the fun of the 2-dimensional Mario games and remains very 3D, beautiful, and accessible. I'm 31, and have a short attention span, so I generally have a problem "beating" video games...I get bored, even with great games. Galaxy relieves this through 2 things: variety between galaxies and brevity of the levels.
While non-gamers may struggle at first, the game is not difficult to learn. My resident non-gamer, my wife, says that it makes her dizzy, all the upside-down and sideways play, and initially I felt the same way, but after several galaxies, I'm quite used to it.
Wii controls are perfect, and it's amazing how less controls than previous games translates to more fun over all. No complicated controls to interfere with the experience, I suppose.
Everyone should experience this game, it's an amazing accomplishment.
Play it with a Smile

All you need to care about is that playing the game in space allows for some of the best plat forming action in any Mario game ever. Gamers don't need to revisit the same level or task with increased difficulty. No more worrying about collecting red coins. The only thing that is back is the pure fun that was so dynamic on the N64 and Super Nintendo.
The game controls work very well for the Wii. Namely when you want Mario to go somewhere, he goes where you want him to and when he lands, the landing is solid. This feeling of solid game play has been absent for far too long in a Mario game. The controller lets you to collect star bits, a new form of currency, and shaking it slightly releases a spin attack which is a wonderfully thought out addition to Mario's special moves.
From Beginning to end I found myself stunned at the creativity and inventiveness in each level, some feel exploration based, some skill, others present mind-bending perspective shifts that keep you on your toes and present great satisfaction when it's all done.
The only downside to speak of is swimming. It still feels clunky and can be extremely frustrating. Thankfully the swimming levels are few and far between and none of them are really required to beat the game.
This is the best game to come out for the Wii sense Zelda: Twilight Princess. You owe it to yourself to own this game if you're lucky enough to own A Wii.
