I'm SO glad I rented this instead of buying it.

This game is definitely NOT a tactical espionage action game.
Metal Gear Solid and MGS 2 are SO much better.

If you like games where you can actually punch, kick and attack your enemies - THIS GAME IS NOT FOR U!!!!

The ONLY thing you can do in this game is sneak behind your enemy and grab him.

All you have in this game is a tiny pistol, which does absolutely no effect on the enemies, you have to shoot like 6 - 8 times just to defeat the enemy.

RENT IT FIRST!

Not long ago, two CIA agents were sent to investigate possible weapons regulations set by the U.N. against Russia. It is your job, as Sam Fischer, to find these agents and whatever information may come with them. I won't tell you any more of the storyline, but trust me, the plot stretches far further than just a couple CIA agents. When Splinter Cell was released for the X-box, gamers got to experience somehting completely new. It was a game that involved stealth over , and it was NOT like MGS2. WARNING: those who would rather shoot first and think later need not apply. In SC, stealth is the name of the game. Notice the silencers on all of your weapons. Ok, now ive got that out of the way. Splinter Cell is one of the reasons that you spent the moolah on a video game system in the first place. It's a game that has lived up to its hype, and it delivers enough action to keep you on the edge of your seat for days...literally.

The graphics in this game are simply fantastic; if they weren't the game itself would not be. You have a stealth meter that shows how well you are covered by shadows. In other words, the lighting in the game HAD to be perfect. You will simply be amazed by the realistic way Sam moves in almost every situation, and the first time you see him roll through a curtain that has been set on fire, you will pause the game and say "WOW!" The characters, while all looking similar to one another, move with realism. The controls are just as fantastic. In what other game can you do the splits between two walls, dangle, crouch, walk, run, rappel, slide, jump, or shoot while dangling from a rope with one hand? All of these actions are done with complete ease, and after the first mission (which, by the way, is completely easy so you can learn the ropes), you will never have to think about your hands; just the way a game SHOULD be. The sounds are emmotion evoking, jumping pace at just the right time to get your heart racing and your pumping. The only downsides are that the guns all sound alike, and that the pick up of tempo can give you too many hints as far as if you're detected.

Just a few gripes with the game. The difficulty level tends to jump up and down while you play the game. While the game itself is made up of constant try, die, repeat types of situations, the music tends to give away whats happening far too well, and the enemies will often walk right up to you in broad light, and not shoot until they have walked into you for several seconds. The testers could have done a better job, as you will often pick up a corpse, and then set him down...with his head sticking through a wall. The concept of staying in stealth with three bright green lights jutting from your head is somewhat question evoking as well.

If you're looking for a game worth your money, Splinter Cell is worth every cent. You'll love hearing the conversations between the characters; they'll make you shudder, and they add a little...unitentional...humor to the game. If you're ok with a game with little replay factor and some sluggish A.I. (along with some repetativeness), the positives will easily kill the negatives. However, if these things sound like burdons, then maybe this game is worth a weekend rental first.

An O.K. game...

At first I was very excited about Splinter cell. It started out as usual with movement trainning and off we go with a lot of expectations. I think that's what got me... Too much expectation and I have played games like this before...

Despite of all the reviews and good ratings, I found this game boring after 4 hours of game play. It was repetitive and AI's of enemy wasn't so intelligent as I hope to be. There wasn't much of action either. I was thinking about giving two stars but because of the quality of the game I gave 3.

I'm a big fan of stealth games. I love Tenchu, and though many dislike the Tenchu series for it's relative simplicity in plot, it has actual stealth play in it. You run around, scouting areas, and try to stay hidden, the scoring let's you know how good you are (or bad) at the sneaking thing. But with Splinter Cell it's an all or none thing. You are forced to sneak in a heavily scripted way. Everything is planned and your mission pretty much fails if you don't get something just right. Hence, the game is one giant series of trial and error experiments which involve more memorization than improvisation and stealth.

I am a stay at home mom and I am addicted to PS2 games. Splinter Cell is my kind of game! We bought it b/c my husband loves Ghost Recon, and wanted it for himself. He loves it, I love it, we definitely got our moneys worth out of it. Great graphics, an intriguing story line, and just plain fun to play. I highly recommend this game.

BEST GAME EVER!!!!!!!!

If you've ever liked strategic role-playing games, spying, or Tom Clancy, you will absolutely love this game!!! It has 10 suspensful, stealth-action levels that can only be from Tom Clancy. This game gets 10 out of 5 stars for being the most fun game I've ever played on any system. I have it for PS2, but I'm sure its just as fun for X-Box, Gamecube, and PC. I do have one warning, though. If you do not like a lot of strategy and thinking, this game is probably not for you. It's also not a really good idea if you get nightmares easily because some parts are a little scary. So, go out today and buy this game! I guarantee you will not be disapointed.

Note: When I first played this game, I really didn't like it because of the first level. This is only my opinion, but I really didn't care for the Police Station. However, don't let this discourage you, the rest of the levels are awesome!

A Necessity for Anyone with a PS2!

Alright, I have to admit that I was a little bit skeptical about the whole Stealth Action Genre...but that was before I tried out Splinter Cell.

This game alone, has broadened my PS2 experience. At first I thought stealth action would be very boring and stupid (just a bunch of running through shadows) but it's loads more, It' s the excitement of grabbing an unsuspecting guard, or using a terrorist as a human shield, it's also standing in the shadows 10 inches away from a guard. These are all the experiences of the Stalth Action genre, and especially Metal Gear and Splinter Cell.

This game has AMAZING graphics, depth and concepts. First of all, the way you can stand 3 inches from a guard and not be seen is a gut-wrenching fun. This game is an emotional rollercoaster, mixed with fear, adrenaline, anger (because it's so hard at times) and amazement (coolness of the game).

This game is a definate must for any gamer. It's especially worth every penny of the $20 price tag.

Here's a breakdown:

Fun- 15/10 From hiding under the nose of a guard to eliminating one...it's great.

Graphics- 10/10 You can react with just about everything, from shooting out lights to turning off a light switch.

Difficulty- 15/10 So hard at times, you'll slam down the controller and storm out of the room...to come back a few seconds later of course :).

Gameplay- 15/10 Tons of moves to do...one for almost every occassion possible...there are so many, ther are some moves you'll never use. Very simplistic and natural tough.

Overall- 55/40

What can I say...just a great, great game. It's really worth every cent. You should seriously invest some money into this game.

Oh, if you do buy this game, don't expect it to be rachet and clank: Going commando long...it's rather short.

Simply amazing!
