This is one heck of a fun game...

5 Rating: 5, Useful: 2 / 2

First things first...if you want a slash-and-run game, this is not what you're looking for.
Splinter Cell is obviously a secret-agent-who-gets-things-done kind of game. The storyline is interesting, but not terribly original. What is fun is watching the 'News' in the Splinter Cell world.

The action in this game is similar to Metal Gear Solid 2. Even though this not as advanced as MGS2 as ar as character moves go, it still has plenty of cool moves. Guns are sparse, but you learn to love the ones you get. Whenever you's out of bullets, you can still knock out your enemies by shooting them with your sticky-cameras.

All in all, a very fun game.

Greast game

well when i first got the game i did think it would be that good. well when i got home and started playing it is was great! even the "training" part was fun a i usually hate that part in games. my only complaint is that it is VERY hard. well mabe that is just me. so if your looking for a great stealth game get this.

i'd been looking forward to this game for ages, and i just started playing it last night, so this review might not be tops.
first the bad.......no radar or map, so you can't see any bad guys before you get into a room and you can't tell which way you're supposed to be going. its like the prehistoric tomb raider, where you just have to run around and finally find a door that opens. also, sam fisher, the guy, can't do any hand to hand combat, you either shoot the bad guys or sneak up behind em. so if you're out of bullets this can be a royal pain, cause you'll just get shot. lastly, the camera angle can get very frustrating, cause you keep having to move it to see in diffrent directions.
now the good, graphics are good, not the best, but not bad either. gameplay is ok, lack of radar and hand to hand combat are a big minus. you can interact with basically anything in the enviroment though which is quite cool.
overall, this game is just average, quite an anti-climax for a much anticipated game. i guess i was looking for a better metal gear solid, this isn't it. its good, but not as good as metal gear.
hope this review helped.

Great game but could be better

Splinter Cell does not live up to all the hype. It is no doubt a great game but it is not the best. First off the graphics are not top notch they do not interfere with the game, but they were much better on X Box. Second off you can only choose from 3 actual weapons: A silenced pistol, a multi purpose assault rifle (it has a grenade launcher and can turn into a sniper rifle), and frag grenades. There is a cool assortment of gadgets like proximity mines a small camera that shocks people, and a flare that distracts heat sensors. In Splinter Cell you have the ability to do many awesome stealth moves like, split jumping, where you hang in the air by pushing both your feet against adjacent walls, rappelling down walls and pipes, and shimmying across ledges. Splinter Cell also allows you to complete mission's different ways giving the game some diversity. In all, Splinter Cell is a good game but after a while it becomes repetitive. You may want to rent this one to see if you like it.

Too little action!

This game had absoloutely no action at all. Every time you ever got into a gunfight, you will always loose because the other guy has a huge loud machine gun, and you have a tiny silenced pistol. This game is based on stealth, and there are hidden security cameras EVERYWHERE so you can't see them. You have to keep playing the level, and keep getting spotted until eventually, after about 50,000 tries, get an IDEA of where the damn thing is hidden! And plus, you have these amazingly bright glowing night vision goggles, and even when you hide in shadows, the guy can't see you even though there's freakin headlights attatcked to your helmet! SHEESH! Evey noise you make, quiet or loud, gets a guard's attention, and their moves are not predictable. While you are sneaking up on them, you never know which way they turn, so you have such a slim chance of grabbing him around the neck and interrogating him. The levels are sooooooooo long it's ridiculous, and there are only 2 types of guns in the entire game which is 12 levels, i [think...!!!] Ammo is scarce, you can't take any guards' guns or ammo, you have to find ammunition in secret areas, or just don't use your gun the entire level.
This gamme [is not good]. If you are going to buy it, I would seriously think of reconsidering or wait a few months ..., or simply just rent it or buy it used. If you are willing to waste money, buy this game.

Go behind the headlines and enter the real world of modern espionage in Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell. Enter Tom Clancy's world of super-secret soldiers and operatives. You are Sam Fisher, a highly trained special operative from the National Security Agency's secret arm, the Third Echelon. Two CIA agents have disappeared from Azerbaijan. You then find out that a former state of the Soviet Union is planning an attack on the U.S. You must infiltrate the enemy personnel and stop this terrorist attack from happening. Then you must escape without a trace.

GOOD GRAPHICS BUT I EXPECTED MORE FROM IT

WHEN I BOUGHT THIS GAME, I EXPECTED IT TO BE ONE OF THE BEST GAMES IVE EVER PLAYED. THE GAME OVERALL IS COOL, BUT ITS ONLY GOOD FOR A WEEKEND CUZ THE GAME GETS REALLY BORING AFTER A WHILE. ALSO THEIRS ONLY LIKE THREE WEAPONS.
HERE ARE THE PROS
+ GOOD GRAPHICS
+ FUNNY DIALOGUE
+ STEALTH GAMEPLAY
+ SHADOWS ARE GOOD
CONS
- I EXPECTED ALOT OF THIS GAME
- NOT ENOUGH WEAPONS
- NO REPLAY VALUE
- SOME OF THE SHADOWS ARE UNREALISTIC
- YOU DO THE SAME THING IN ALL THE MISSIONS

Incredible

I just recently got this game and I have not stopped playing. It is so intense and suspenseful. I like that it isn't a shoot'em up type game but requires good strategy. AN ABSOLUTE MUST!!

frustrated and can't stop playing

I had to give the game four stars because I can't stop playing it, but you'll need to play each level (or sub-section of a level as you will understand if you play) about 10 or 20 times before you succeed. Some are easier than others but here is the basic run-down for playing Splinter Cell: Try-Fail-Return to Last Save. Try-Fail-Return to Last Save. Try-Fail-Return to Last Save. Try-Fail-Return to Last Save. Try-Fail-Return to Last Save. Try-Fail-Return to Last Save. And so on. I like a challenge as much as the next guy, and I play more video games than a 35 year old married guy should admit to, but this is ridiculous. I'll fail at a single misson enough times to get sick of the game, only to return to it the next day and fail some more. Why four stars again? I can't quit. The graphics, story, controls (besides aim!), and overall experience are incredible. Without any doubt one of the top five PS2 titles I own and I've got 30+. MGS2 is still the king. Even with the Mullet.

Great game

I'll keep it short and simple with a pro/con list. Before we begin, I must mention that, besides GTA Vice City, this has become my favorite game.

Pro: 1. Awesome graphics. The details, lighting, atmospheres are eeirly real. Fisher's nightvision/thermal goggles are also done well.
2. Long! Maybe not MGS2 long, but you do less watching and a whole lot of playing. The missions just keep coming!
3. You'll get at least 40 hours of game play. Normal settings fun, expert makes it a whole new game.
4. Good story line. Easy to follow, realistic.
5. Realistic guns/characters/everything! Enemies will search you out, hide, lean around and shoot, and run away when possible.
6. FUN! This game is worth every penny.
7. Some dark humor care of Fisher.
8. Fisher is so much cooler than that Solid Snake.

Cons: 1. There is SOME replay value though not unlimited like GTA3 or GTA Vice City.
2. Dumb character AI. Sometimes they react realistically. However, if they dont see you, they'll putz around and spin in circles.
3. Voices. They're annoying. Not realistic.
4. Trial-and-error. Sometimes the stupidest little sections must be done again and again because of one tiny fault.

All in all, this game is on par with MGS2, SOCOM, and much better than the Getaway. It's really a mix of all. MGS2's graphics are a little better, but the story line there was much too complex and too much cinema.

Get this game if you like special-ops, want a long first/third person stealth game, and want to be addicted until you finish that last mission!
