Patched this game is addictive and fun

Yes the game lags at times and there are bugs still after the many patches but it satisfies as much if not more that the Baldurs Gate series. At this price grab it while you can because they're just selling off the inventory. If you in the past enjoyed or continue to enjoy pen and paper D&D you will love this game (if you can get it to work, but at $10 it's a worthwhile gamble). Here's hoping they make a sequel like Against the Giants.

Flawed but Fun

The complaints about the bugs in TOEE are legit, there are some really frustrating ones here and there, but not enough to ruin the fun. The shame is that there could have really been one of the truly great computer RPGs if it had been fully implemented

fun game

The first thing to consider before buying this game is how much bugs annoy you. If they do do not buy it becuase it is the buggiest game I have ever seen, I had one character get stuck in a bush when leaving the temple and throughout the remainder of the game would get stuck in the same stop every time like clockwork with no way of fixing it. Also when playing turn off character voices. Other than that I had a lot of fun playing this game. The graphics are dated but I thorughly enjoyed the combat sequences and strategy of how to postion my characters, which is unigue depending on the monster you are fighting. I still dont really understand what the storyline was, and also do not bother exploring the main town as its just a bunch of pointless houses with poeple with nothing to say. With all that you would think I would say I hated the game but with all that aside I had a lot of fun exploring the temple. If you have not played icewind dale than i would recommend it over this game although that has its own issues as well.

Excellent Intro. Game

Bugs aside, this is a really great way to introduce someone to D&D (without table top).
The game itself is heaps of fun, quirky and interesting enough to keep one entertained (absolutely perfect for procrastinating).
Note about the bugs:
If you're lucky, there will only be a few. You can choose to tolerate them or download a patch. And that can be handled with either the official patch or one provided by Circle of Eight ([...]). I personally recommend the Co8 patches (they fix a lot, and add some new things, if you like).
The game now is cheap enough to not worry about the bugs. If you're a very serious gamer, maybe this is too annoying for you, but if you're casual about your games, then this one is definitely worth the [chance of ] glitches (which, I repeat, can be fixed).

I recommend the overall plot of the game. It's a lovely adventure. It's engaging, and stimulates your imagination, which of course, is more then half the fun.

Check it out, and enjoy!

Okay, first of all, Troika, the developer, said that there was another build of the game that was done right after the gold announcement of the game. To those that don't know what a gold announcement is, it means that the game has been sent to the cd burners and is being prepped up for distribution. The game is good, very expansive, used the 3rd editon rules very well. The combat system, which there you see a lot of, is very well done. So, you wonder why I only give 3 stars instead of 5? The game is very buggy at this time, there have been reports of crashes, quests not being completed, etc.I'd wait a little while before purchasing this game, because it needs a patch or two before it would be perfect.

Interesting game...if it would work

The game is pretty interesting. I'm not a pen and paper D&D player, so I can't comment on that aspect of the game. But as an avid video gamer, I liked what little of the game I have been able to play. Unfortunately, even with two patches for this game, it still is riddled with bugs and other complications that make the game frustrating and not very fun. I was sorry to have spent the money on it that I did. I could have laid down the same money, or perhaps even less, for a better game that was actually fun to play. The technical difficulties destroyed any chance that this game would be enjoyable. If you're a glutton for technological punishment, buy the game. Otherwise, find something else.

Not bad if you're desperate

If you love single player, multi-character RPGs like I do, then you'll dig TEE. It's no where near BGII, but it will keep you entertained for a few weeks. The only thing that slightly annoys me is that it's turn based, which goes a little slower than the space-bar pause games like BGII.

DON'T!

Almost unplayable.
Both Troika and Atari should be ashamed of themselves.

I've played better shareware than this.

1. Lousy pathfinding, my number one gripe in any top-down game. If the guy has to walk through three threatened areas to get there instead of taking the one clear path, this means one thing: your pathfinding algorithm BLOWS CHUNK!

2. I don't care how true to the game system the rules are. Combat and movement are tedious and annoying. Also, you can't cut out of the game when combat is obviously taking a down turn. If your entire party is dead, incapacitated or fleeing, you are stuck there forever, until the last lowly grunt is dead.

3. Frogs. Giant frogs. How horrible. Two words, guys

Dai Katana

Frogs are not scary. Nor are they fun to beat up. I would rather you reintroduce some even scarier monsters from 1st or 2nd edition like flumphs or gorbels.

I could not bring myself to finish this redundant eyesore.

I strongly suggest that you relinquish your rights to this game and hand it over to Atari so that they can at least turn it into a Neverwinter Nights campaign.
