This game is so realistic. In some ways it is lie grand theft auto and others it is like metal gear solid which are both sweet games. In this fame you asume the role of tqwo charaters. Mark Hammond who is trying to get his son back from his mob boss charlie who killed his wife, and Frank Carter a cop trying to get Charlie. What makes this game so cool is the realistic city London. They took pictures of the 40 square mile city and put it into the game. Also there are over 56 cars you can jack and 10 hidden. Obvoiusly the car action is from grand theft auto and the stealthie is from meatal gear solid. The game features a free roam mode at the end of the game when you beat it. This is hopw you can find the secret cars. There are some sweet weapons you can get like the double pistols, shotguns, ak-47's and more. This has to be the game of year from my eyes and I reccomed this to everybody who owns a ps2.

The Getaway shouldn't be called an interactive movie like many other reviews preach it to be. Before reading this, understand this one statement: The Getaway is a videogame.... and a great one at that.
If you aren't opting for a story-based game, stop reading. The games not for you, even if you 'dig' realistic games. This game is more realistic than any game before it. Recover health slowly, the blinkers guide you in cars, you can follow the law and not get arrested, as a cop you can "borrow" civilian cars, etc.
Once again, just let me proceed to tell you if you don't like story based games or realism this game isn't for you. This game is more realistic than most drama movies, and the plot is better than the majority of things to come out of Hollywood.
The plot is as follows: Mark Hammond is an ex-gangster as of six months ago. His wife is shot on the street, and his child kidnapped. He finds who is responsible - Charlie Jolson, a mob boss who was once king of all of London's mean streets now found at the bottom of the realm. Mark becomes Charlie's frontline, carrying out very dangerous jobs for him because of Charlie blackmailing him, threatening to kill Mark's child.
The plot thickens as you move on, with many plot twists and a spectaculaur ending.

The Getaway is like Grandtheftauto 3's little brother. There are not as many missions as in GTA 3 and you don't have a health meter. The graphics are a little better and driving cars with the analog stick will take time getting used to.All in all, if you like GTA 3 like games, you'll enjoy the Getaway.

This is one of the best games I have ever played. Although you do not get many different types of weapons, the gameplay makes up for it. This game is a mix of GTA Vice City, Dead To Rights and a few other games. It is much more realistic than GTA Vice City. It should take you about the same length of time to win as GTA Vice City. It is difficult at times and sometimes easy. There are 24 missions. 12 are as Mark Hammond, and the other 12 you play as a cop. When you win the game you can just go around london and do whatever you want like GTA Vice City. The only part that I dont like is that almost every mission you have to drive with the cops and other gangs chasing you. Also you have to watch the movie sequences. Overall this is a great game and I recommend it to any one who enjoys action/shooting games.

The Getaway is an amazing game. It kind of has the Grand Theft Auto Theme involved and some of the movie The Bourne Identity. The graphics, sound, dialogue -- all amazing. Just make sure you have no younger people around while playing the game. The whole plot -- everything. The only downfall is the enforced camera angle. Sometimes you don't get the ability to see around certain objects or you can't turn around people when holding a person in choke mode (using a human shield). Otherwise, I highly recommend the game -- still deserves 5 stars.

I have to admit I was a little scared when I bought this game because the comparisons to GTA and GTA:Vice City turned me off. But I figured since it was only $... I would check out anyway, and I'm glad I did!!!! I absolutely love this game!!! The story is great! The graphics are tight! And overall it's just a whole lot of fun to play! The only bad thing about it is that if you're used to GTA's controls this game can be a little difficult at times, but once you get the hang of it it's right on. I highly recommend this game.........
Great Game, But...

This is one of the better games that I have played in quite a while. The essence of London is caught as you explore the city, playing the part of Mark Hammond, an ex-con driven into the criminal life by Charlie Jolson, a big mafioso boss, and D.C. Carter, a rogue cop determined to end the Jolsons' reign on London. The cut-scenes have to be the best that I have seen in quite a while. The humor in the cut-scenes is a bit dark and wicked. And, as the package says, there are both sexual (e.g., "tarts") and drug references (e.g., "crank"). The fact that the game doesn't treat you like a moron is also an asset. But, here comes the several criticisms of this game...
First, the producers of this game should have included a map of London in the package and/or able to be called on-screen at any time. Many, many, many times the turn indicators on the car have just driven me around in a circle! It gets frustrating after the twentieth time that you do the same mission, getting lead around in circles. Note: Some of us have never been in London before, and a map would be REALLY nice! Second, the character animations of Mark Hammond and D.C. Carter could have been greatly improved. They should move more fluidly and have more movements available to them. Third, your companion's AI could have been improved, instead of acting like complete idiots. Fourth, the camera poses a big problem since it is fixed and often lead to many control issues with me. Lastly, there should be options to save the cinemas as well or have a movie mode where you complete the game, you receive a movie with most or all the cut-scenes included. Since the producers made such a big deal about the movie theme, it is sincerely a waste to not have an actual movie mode.
Overall, this game is pretty good, and one of the better games that I have played (even better than Grand Theft Auto in my opinion). Hopefully, in the sequel, they will correct these issues and have better "extras."

And that's just what you'll get from the best game of the year and one of the best games ever created for any system. If you like the Sopranos than this is definetly up your alley. If you like to kill people and get away with it... then go for this too!
The graphics are better than any other game made. Seriously. The violence and blood is oh so sweet. You feel like the blood of your friends is actually in your hands being absorbed by your pores. Language! Oh such language. But what the heck do we care if it's an entertaining game?! I don't mind the excessive use of the words F*** and BAS****. It's all in the world of the mob so if you want to feel like you're in the game you got to use that language.
The gameplay is pretty good. I would give it a 4.5/5 for gameplay because the aiming is a little off. When you shoot someone dead, occaisionally the gun is still fixed on him(the dead guy) and you keep shooting him. But it's just a simple press of the button to fix it.
This game has a great storyline that is wonderfully built up by the long cutscenes at the beginning and sometimes in the middle of the levels.
So, if you have $50 to spend than put aside Grand Theft Auto:Vice CIty and pick up The Getaway because this game is a sure classic in the world of PS2 and you don't want to miss it.
It is a solid game

This game has it good points and its bad points. To start everything off, I'm going to tell you the part that really pisses me off, the controls. There is no strafe. Also, When you have a person in a choke hold it is very hard to move. The character moves really slow. Other than the shootout movements, there arent much other movements. There is a roll movement, and there is a wall lean movement. Those are the only sneaking actions in the game, "very depressing". There also isn't much varieties of cars nor weapons(from where i am now). London also seems quite small compared to vice city. The graphics in this game are pretty good and the music sets the mood. The shootout actions are pretty cold as well. You can fire shots without looking while leaning on a wall, you can put somebody in a hold and use them as a human shield, you can duck behind cars and fire over them while you are ducking, etc... This games dialogue is very sophisticated and realistic...it sounds like a movie(I think it gets it's touch from the language). On the whole, this game is way more realistic than vice city and I like this game better than gta. So saying that, you grand theft auto fans are thinking that you should pick this up right away?? Not exactly. I was not a big fan of vice city because I thought it was an installment or updated gta 3. This game should get the respect that it deserves. out of 100 I give it an %89.5
(yes it is an A)
