I bought this game for my son and it has been the worst piece of garbage Activision has put out in awhile.
The game frequently freezes and there there at glitches sprinkled all over where you can't move at at all for a few seconds at a time. Furthermore, in some levels the floor goes missing??? It's like you are standing a black square with nothing there. (...)
"But despite lofty ambitions, the title of the first chapter in the new game, "What Might Have Been," pretty much sums up the new installment.
First things first: A test of the game, which is available in versions for PlayStation 2, GameCube and Xbox, revealed a massive glitch that can prevent it from progressing. Under certain undefined circumstances, the game refused to progress past chapter nine. Activision's suggested fixes include restarting the console and loading from an earlier saved game. If these don't work, or if you don't have an earlier saved game, you may be forced to start over.
A problem of this magnitude in a console game is generally enough reason to avoid it. But even if you wait until a fixed version makes it to the shelves, or you just get lucky and don't hit the glitch, you're going to find a game that feels hurried and incomplete."
It's ironic that Activision knowingly released a game that was this buggy. I'd advise those who are thinking about buying this game for their kids to think again. How do you explain to your son why 1) it freezes 2) glitches 3) there's no floor...?
Wow what a horrible game

Think what you want about this game, but it truly is a bad, disappointing excuse for a game. Not that the movie was the greatest, though. Now, what good can i say about this game? Ummm....well, you get to shoot a web. But, like the rest of the game, it is incredibly repetitive. Rescue a person, chase "Megazoid," over and over and over and over and over (you get the point) again. The graphics are ATROCIOUS! You might as well just play spiderman for the first playstation and save $$. With all of the hype for this game, it is a a huge let-down. Also, in the commercials for this 'game,' they say you have the freedom to go anywhere you want. But, what's the point? That gets repetitive after the first few minutes becasue it is 100% pointless. The only use for it is to get to your next repetitive objective. If you for some reason want to spend $45 for the same thing over and over, then by all means, buy it. You can take or leave my advice, but as your regular gamer, I'm giving you my perspective. Savce your money.

I truly believe that this naff sequel tries to be annoying and repulsive. The camera angles would make Spidey spit out his web in discust. The gameplay would be great if itad a totally different plot all together and didn't invole Spiderman at all.
This is truly a triumph in the 1 star section, but next time make it an '18' so I won't have to endure the boring piece of crap that it is!!!

Spiderman 2 does not contain the option for subtitles. The game cannot be successfully enjoyed if you are unable to follow the dialogue. Avoid this game and all Activision titles as they do not subtitles any of their products.

My original review was a bit harsh because of a buggy disk. Well after exchanging a bad disk I finally got to play this game bug free and I am impressed. I think I was as annoyed by the kid who posted the first ten reviews long before the game came out more than anyhting, his dad should take away his game preview priveleges AND his internet access because he did not do his company any favors letting this kid be their spokesman to such a wide audience. Bragging that you've played a game months before street date under multiple aliases just makes people distrustful.
The street missions get pretty repetitive pretty fast as there are only about 5 types of missions but the storyline missions have a nice variety of boss battles and puzzle solving.
Having seen the movie now I am impressed with how they did this game, driving the story on a sidestreet to the movie and avoiding spoilers while giving occasional glimpses as you go along. The webslinging in the game is very well done and it is kind of fun just to swing around the town.
I'm very happy with this game and glad to see that others are liking it as well, I think this is one I will come back to after the missions are all done just for an occasional web slinging break.

There are many flaws with this game. The voice acting is cheesy and nobody moves their mouths. The combat is very hard to use because when you try to execute a combo, someone shoots you and messes you up. The graphics are sub-standard.
It is pretty realistic in that you actually have to be under something to use your web. That's pretty much it.

THIS GAME SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I played the first one and really liked it and the way this game has been advertised, it seemed like a big upgrade. I WAS WRONG! Even though this game is 2 years newer than the first spiderman, it still manages to have worse graphics. When you're talking to the people on the street (or anyone up close) their mouths don't even move!
There is ONLY about "9" different types of problems on the streets you can beat to earn "HERO POINTS" and it's fun to do them and to try out your attacks on thugs but after a while it gets really stupid and unrealistic. Don't you just love when you go up to a person and they say "Spiderman, that man is about to fall!" and it cuts to a construction worker clinging to the top of a building, (and this is the umteenth time this has happined to you today) "talk about unrealistic."
Also there are about 10 different kinds of common people in this game so after a while if you're talking to a person, you have probably seen that same person being thefted, injured, held at gunpoint by a thug, and who knows what else. (It gets tedius)
Finally this game is super short! I beat is in 4 days and i only played for two hours a day. (you do the math) In the FIRST spiderman, (which i gave 5/5 stars)it was twice as long and had really cool cut sceens. This game has close to none.
There are so many flaws with this game I can't even begin to tell them all.
Nothing like the first

(...) If you are over twelve and are interested in a REAL review then listen closely...
The strengths of the game are:
1. You can go down to the street, into restaurants and stores
2. You actually get to fight crime instead of taking on bosses all day long. You can even deliver pizza if you wanted to.
3. Toby McGuire's actually got a sense of humor in this one... and I liked the narration by Bruce Campbell.
4. The ability to swing around the city using a myriad of different methods is innovative.
5. Perhaps the biggest thing missing from superhero games (with the exception of the Hulk) is in here. Believe it or not, you actually get to change into Peter Parker. Name one superhero game where you can play their alias!
The weaknesses of the game are:
1. The graphics are beyond horrible (remember the SNES?)
2. The "crimes" that you solve are extremely repetious
3. Most of the game is timed trials -- you must swing across the city in under sixty seconds...etc.
4. The hero points are the absolute worst. You must get a certain number of these points in order to progress to the next phase of the game. You get these points by stopping crime and saving lives. Unfortunately, the game only has six scenarios, meaning that you're going to get extremely bored of them, extremely quickly.
5. Did I mention the graphics?
In a nutshell, this game is nothing like the first. This game is extremely fun to play at first, but after two hours, you're praying that the next person you save isn't on a boat, hanging from a building, shooting at the police or needs to be rushed to the hospital. I'm an RPG-er mostly, but I LOVED the first Spiderman. This game I didn't like... too many timed trials, jumping from level to level like Super Mario Bros, uninteresting music and some scenes were entirely pointless... doing nothing to advance the game. They dropped the ball on this game. Like I always say in my reviews: rent first, then buy if you like it.
