Well True Believers......Believe it!! After purchasing the game, my spider senses began to tingle with an overload of exquisite danger. But that was just only the beginning....
This game will truly be the spiderman game you have wanted to play. The graphics are AMAZING! The control is SPECTACULAR! and the roaming freedom is something to really sink your WEB into.
Of course for some people it will remind you alot of GTA III or VICE CITY, but who cares your friggin SPIDERMAN!! Get over it!!
And just to add some comedy to the mix, again they include a small tutoral at the beginning with none other than Bruce all mighty Campbell giving out the one liners.
They only thing I have against it is the fact that there is no online capablities. With the new HDD for the PS2, there could have been downloadable missions or a slew of familiar baddies to contend with.
An excellent and must have game for the spiderman fan!
P.S. Play game after watching the movie (Don't wanna have a darth vader is luke's father moment do ya??)
PHREEKIN AWESOME!

Holy crap I just bought it and I'm amazed. I became interested in this game after seeing "Making The Game" on MTV. When I heard it was free-roaming like GTA, I knew I had to get it. Let me tell you: you WILL NOT be disappointed. This game is almost perfect, the only one flaw I can see is that the camera gets messed up when your swinging the webs sometimes, but thats it. Tight game, just tight. Go buy it.

Where to start? This game is not too hard, not too easy, but mostly just FUN. Some games will just challenge you and they are not fun, and the only reason that you play them is to beat Level 46 because youve been trying for DAYS!!!
Well, this game is different. Obviously influenced by the GTA games, you can swing all around Manhattan (including the streets, which is new from the first game), crawl up any buildings (seriously, any, and you can also jump off any building). Being on top of a building and jumping off, or swining anywhere, Spiderman moves with such grace that not only can you almost feel the wind against your face, it seems just like the movie. No small feat.
There are random missions that pop up around the city (i.e. catch that car and save that man from that building), and then there are chapters with more detailed missions (you'll get a headache from the Mysterio ones). You also buy upgrades for your web swinging and combat moves, which brings us to our next thing.
The combat is fairly easy because of "Spidey Sense". Just keep pressing circle and Spiderman can dodge bullets, punches, and even thrown axes. Then kick the thugs in the air and punch the crap out of them while they stay in the air. Tying up thugs and tying them to lamp posts just makes you smile. You've got the power!
The reason I didn't give this game 5 stars is because there is a steep difficulty curve. Like I earlier said, the Mysterio missions are suddenly brutally difficult, and you suddenly have to be skilled at webslinging. Just look at swinging to the statue of liberty. You'll know what I mean.
All in all, this is a great game. To keep up your webslinging mastery just do all the challenges and keep purchasing upgrades.
FANTASTIC GAME

"Spider-Man 2" is easily one of the most entertaining and engaging video games to come out recently.
The plot is taken directly from the film, with a few additional baddies tossed in for good measure. So if you haven't seen the movie and don't want the plot spoiled, I would stay away from the game for a while. Simmer down now.
The controls are very intuitive and, after a half-hour or so of practice, you'll be swinging through the street of New York with ease and grace. Swinging is the best part of the game. Many of the mini-missions and civilian help quests get repetitive and obnoxious; however, the combo system during combat is so unique and interchangable that you'll be running around looking for your next fight. Apparently the most skilled brawler can defeat a gang of nefarious thugs without ever touching the ground. I, however, haven't gotten to that point.
And that's where the addictive nature of "Spider-Man 2" comes in. For some unknown psychological reason, you want to become a master at both spinning and fighting. It's difficult to give up before you reach this plateau of skill. Hence the headaches and dry mouthes after jamming buttons for 5+ hours.
The graphics for Playstation 2 aren't perfect, but they're very good. The physics of swinging and the convulsions of Spider-Man's body are very realisitic. As some have said, the building detail isn't incredible, but you'll be swinging through the streets at such a high speed, the wind whipping in your "ears," that you won't notice this at all.
Perhaps this game could be a bit longer mission-wise, but when you pare to down, there are thousands of things to do. There are secret tokens on top of skyscrapers and hidden throughout the city, floating of buoys and tucked in gang hide-outs. There are also race tokens and hint tokens and ... well, you could easily draw this game out for days and weeks and months. It's like "Grand Theft Auto" in the effect that the most fun is driving/spinning around, and the missions take the back seat.
Definitely a worthy addition to anybody's Playstation 2 collection.
Best Game I've EVER played

What planet are the few people who dislike this game from?
I have to admit, right at the onset, I was skeptical of this game...but the more I played the better it gets. When you learn all the moves and how to fly through the air from building to building fast, its an experience UNMATCHED by any other game. In fact, this game is so good, that after I beat it - which took longer than expected - I wanted to keep playing and do all the races and secrets. When you're on top of the highest buildings it is one of the freakiest experiences of any game I've played. This is an addicting game, but you have to give it a chance first because the real fun is in the racing and learning how to do tricks...basic free roaming GTA style stuff is what makes it the most fun. This is one of the few games I consider very worth buying instead of renting because I see myself playing it again and again.
Unlike the first game, this is pretty good.

If I didn't have a free rental coupon, I would have never checked this game out. I hated the first game, I didn't care for the first movie, and didn't even bother watching the second movie. I thought this would be another run of the mill disappointing licensed game. Was I wrong or what?
It turns out they didn't bother doing a rehash of the old first game. They decided to do it right this time. What they got was an immersive, enjoyable game where web slinging, crime fighting and cut scenes are all woven together nicely.
This game takes place in Manhattan, and it's got tons of buildings to swing around, plenty of crime to fight, and plenty of enemies. There are about 15 missions in the story. Most missions consist of swinging to one place, fighting a boss or doing some deed, and earning "hero points", all the while cut scenes keep you informed. Swinging is fun and intuitive. The fights are pretty fun as well. You can dodge, attack, do multiple kicks, jump, etc. The hero points is an interesting, open ended twist. By fighting crime, helping people, battling super villains, or delivering pizza, you can earn enough points to pass a level and buy upgrades. The cut scenes are small and not really impressive, but they add to the game and don't overwhelm it. There is also a lot of humor tossed in for the fun of it.
A great point about this game is that you rarely have to repeat anything, and you can save almost at any point. It removes a lot of the frustration.
There are some bad points though. Some of the upgrades are super combos where you have to press X, circle, square, look at the sun, twirl on one foot, speak the alphabet backwards in order to do something. Okay, I'm exaggerating, but it's only fun if you like fighting games. Also, the graphics are pretty subpar for a recent PS2 game. With the exception of the buildings, I thought it was pretty lacking. Also, it's linear, which means that you're stuck in one level, you really can't move on. Finally, it gets kind of repetitive. You don't know how sick I was of chasing down car jackers.
All in all though, this is quite a solid game which I would recommend to anyone.
Pros:
Save almost any point.
Hardly any replaying.
Cut scenes add to the element
Funny
Manhattan is enormous
Intuitive
Cons:
Repetitive at some points
Linear
Hate the concept of combos
Graphics are subpar
Time to Complete (Story missions only): 10 hours
Difficulty: Low to Medium
Frustration: Low to Medium
Not Perfect, but pretty darn close...

This game almost fixes all the shortcomings of the one that came before it. Namely, the newfound sense of freedom you get from finally being able to touch the ground. A virtually living city is yours to zip around with the greatest of ease, thanks to the new web swing mechanics that have been included. (normal winging is the only way to go. Easy Swinging may be simpler, but you're depriving yourselves.) And in a nod to the great GTA series, open-ended gameplay! Various "hot spots" pop up in the city. Certain ones serving to advance the game, while others serve as side quests (read: time wasters) that net you Hero Points that can be used to buy new combos and abilities. And while they're not TOO varied (you'll see all of them after a while, then the name of the game is repetition, but remember: you need the Hero Points), when you get the hang of them, you may actually begin to enjoy just seeking them out to earn all the special "awards" in your stats section. And of course, there's the whole "you ARE Spider-Man" vibe when swinging that will probably have you constantly coming back for more. With some challenging bosses and a couple of REALLY ANNOYING ones, there's a good ammount of challenge to be had here.
Graphics wise, the major characters in the game are rendered well, and easily recognized, although the stand in voice acting leaves a little to be desired. Spider-Man himself is obviously the most animated character in the game, edging out Doc Ock in my opinion. (Black Cat's rendered well too, if you know what I mean... ; )) And the City is just so beautiful. Sadly, the same can't be said about the people wandering about, as well as the vehicles, which didn't get as much attention. But if you don't base your opinion solely on visuals, this is a non issue. They do their job, and do it well.
Audio... as I said, there are a handful of Actual actors, along with stand ins. TobeY Maguire does a good job with his role this time around. I found myself liking him a lot more in this game. The same with Molina. I only wished we could have got JK Simmons to do Jameson... that would have made my day. The rest of the voices are pretty much a mixed bag.
Controls are great, but not perfect. With the occasional lag during battles (or maybe it's just that later on enemies attack really fast) it's really responsive. And the new conbat system is just... just... it makes me weep. Atttacks that are actually USEFUL. And just plain fun to use!
I can't stress it enough. Normal Swinging. You have to use that mode. It's simply breathtaking. The sense of freedom, hindered by the occasional invisible barrier or water hazard, is something to behold. If you're any kind of Spider Man fan, you owe it to yourself to just buy this game and play it.
