I got this game about two weeks ago. I played it almost day + night. I just love this game because this game has everything. Normally on all games you get either shooting or just racing only. But this game has everything. Shooting, racing, + talking. That is the main reason everybody likes it.

Now I am in the 15th mission on part 8. I really need help from somebody. When I play this game I cannot find the gang leader which every body is trying to kill. I killed all of his guards and searched by building to building but cannot find him. If anybody knows how to find him please send me an E-Mail to [email]. If I get passed thru this spot I am sure I can win the game and I am sure I can help you.

For Your GTA fix...

Mafia is a fabulous game in the GTA vein. What sets the two apart, IMO, is the maturity level. No, not the blood, guts, and prostitutes of GTA kind of "maturity", but the storyline. Mafia's characters are fabulously well-developed and the story will make you want to keep going mission after mission. And the missions are truly grand--some you will recognize as being lifted out of your favorite gangster movies (along with some of the characters--your sidekick is a Pesci clone) but all in all they're the best I've ever encountered. One highlight that you'll probably play over and over involves your character and his NPC friends getting ambushed in the top of a parking garage and you have to shoot your way out.

Other strengths include solid graphics and a great period-accurate soundtrack.

Where the game fails not only as a game but also when compared to GTA is in the driving. Simply, driving is also period-accurate, which means the cars are slow and handle poorly. It's rarely any fun, and the game does seem artificially stretched by making you drive all over the city to get to the various missions. Plus, one extremely frustrating level forces you to win a race. After about 50 tries I won, but many just download a savegame from the net to get past that portion of the game. Finally, there's little to do outside the game's storyline, unlike GTA where there's all sorts of ways to get in trouble.

Ultimately, both GTA and Mafia are experiences. GTA immerses you in a world, while Mafia boils down that immersion into a single story. Both are outstanding and must-haves for computer gamers.

This is by far the best game ever its been a year sence i beat it and im still thinking about it its like whatching a gangster movie with a love scene and everything. And its so realistic in games such as gta3 running a red light or anyother traffic violation is totally ignored in this your given a ticket even for speeding wich makes it(buy mafia) just like a real 30's world and the cars are incredable they're all real old cars and they run like real old cars so if your used to playing gta3 where the cars turn on a dime then(buy mafia) it may take some getting used to but when you do it becomes as easy as(buying mafia) tying your shoe. i loved this game so much that ive turned into a mafia fanatic and have rented all the old gangster movies and i am reading "The Godfather" im sure you'll feel the same way so belive when i say this is(buy mafia) the greates game ever

Good game...AI is a little lame, though....

Graphically, this game is great. Gun fights are smooth and are executed with ease with the aid of great gameplay. The only problems I had with it are the fact that the majority of the time you sit in a fricken car, traversing a gigantic city to get to the better missions. And there's a part where you have to race 5 laps of a massive track and come in first--no matter what. One of the lamest parts of the entire game, as it's quite difficult because every single car in the game handles like a bed on wheels. In addition to that, the AI (and I use that term loosely, as there seems to be a lack of "intelligence") has got to be one of the lacklustre attempts I have seen...your mob guys run blindly into the midst of gun battles shooting hand guns at people that aren't even near them...I've seen them just stand in fire trying to do this, as well...not getting the hint that the 4 cops near them filling them with bullets and the fire running up their legs should take precedence over the guy hiding in a corner across the parking garage....Overall, a great game, though.

Great fun! This one's a swell game to play!

No, I don't have the game, just the Demo. If the game is anything like the demo, it's going to be among the elite of games this year... A bit costly though... I'll have to wait awhile before I can afford it... Still, I've had a great time playing the Demo. Lot's of shoot em up action. Looks very similar to Grand Theft Auto III. Excellent graphics and cut scenes! Controls are pretty easy on the keyboard. This is one game I'd recommend for sure. But, use short bursts with your machine gun if you want to be effective.

Great Game, Slow Cars

Don't buy this game expecting the pulse-pounding, high-speed chases that Grand Theft Auto 3 has to offer. Instead, expect a realistic and almost cinematic Gangster game. This game is enjoyable from the beginning, but gets even better the more you play and the more you reveal the plot. As you climb your way up the Organized Crime Ladder you realize the benefits and consequences of your actions. A great ending as well, I give Mafia 5 stars.

Very Laggy and Boring

If you don't have a newer computer this game will be terrible for you. Although it only requires 128 mb this game is extremely glitchy and laggy even if you have 256mb. I also found this game very boring and repetetive. The first part of the game is very boring, all you do is drive people around. This game also has terrible AI, if you almost run someone over they will jump back and then continue walking. Not like in GTA3 when they start running away. The cars are bad too, if you park in the middle of the street they will just stay there they won't go around. I have a Gateway ME and I tried playing this game and its just to glitchy and laggy which ruins the fun. However I'm sure its fun if you can afford a brand new computer with a great video card and 1000mb of ram.

I am enjoying this game so far. The cut scene animations are neat but take up a lot of room on your hard drive. Many gamers have compared this to Max Payne and GTA 3, although there are differences. You'll spend a lot of time driving around Lost Haven. Music is by old 30s jazz musicians like Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday. The gun battles are good, better than in GTA 3. Your aim goes slightly off center if you use a powerful gun like the Tommy Gun, and you must stop to reload every so often. One immeasurable help to driving is a neat in-game game map feature that lets you bring up in a flash where you and which direction you are heading in. The old 1930s cars are shiny and well detailed but don't have the speed of the ultra modern cars in GTA 3 - remember the game takes place in the 1930s, not 2002! The game takes a lot of time, since you do a lot of driving, often between far away points in the city. This game was a pleasant surprised - it was not hyped before release like others. It's also very bloody with lots of foul language, although you can tone down the blood through the controls option.

You must have a powerful system to run this game, esp at higher resolutions. Don't even think about it unless you have less than about 1.2 gig pentium and a top graphics card.

I was transported in time to another world. Great action, story, and graphics to die for. An even greater game than is already known. Take a look at the top 10 game list on gamespot.com. This list gauges visitor interest. Mafia keeps on climbing back on this list several months after its release.

so you wanna be a gangster?
