Like being in a movie!

First of all, all of you GTA fans who judge everything compared to the new and improved GTA Series (gta3 and Vice City) if you would drop your usual rating system and take a look at all the realism and effort put into this game.

This game starts out as you Tommy Angelo, as an unlucky but optimistic taxi driver. Your city 'Lost Haven' is full of crime and people who normally wouldnt give a damn about you until, your character joins the Mafia. He has his doubts but before you know it your getting into high-speed car chases, action packed gun-fights and a big roadster race!

This game is for the older age group but it appeals to almost any age, it doesnt contain 'gore' but alot of blood and well... Death. But if this game doesnt want you to break out the Godfather or any of your old gangster flicks I will be suprised, this game makes you feel as you are Tommy Angelo and you ARE in the Mafia. I hope this review will make some people change there mind and buy this amazing game!

A definite recomendation to buy!

You can thank me later! :)

I thought this game was great. Not as violent as GTA3 or vice city yet still delivers great thrills. Its really fun but pretty hard. A great game for people who are interested in the history of the mafia life but dont like the violence of GTA3. I highly recomened this game to ages 13-99.

Enormously Entertaining

Like Grand Theft Auto III, this game takes place in an "open-ended" world, meaning you can travel to various places in an immense map, and that there is more than one solution to each mission. The plot is more linear than GTAIII- you can't really pick your missions in random order- but it also has a more interesting storyline. The graphics are amazing- nearly cinematic in quality. This game does take place in the 1930s, so the cars aren't as fast and the guns aren't quite as loud. Some of the settings are beautifully rendered- the cathedral and the art museum in particular standout to me. Once you finish the game, you've have access to the entire map in "Freeride" mode, as well as numerous silly and over-the-top missions in "Freeride Extreme". Between Mafia and GTAIII, you'll have two games with a lot of replayability, and I'm certain that both will rank as video game classics. Buy this game!

The Best Game Ever!

This game is the best ever. It takes the real 1930s and combines it what a real mafia life would be. It really lets you feel what it nearly would have been like. The assortment of cars are amazing and wait until you see the weapons. This game just has it all and I think it might be one of the best of all time.

This game is a state of art. It was released at the same time as Grand Theft Auto III, but it is so much better. GTA III is a pathetic game. Mafia has everything, extremely good storyline, it is like you are watching amovie. Really good graphics and a lot of details. It is very realistic. Cops are much better, they can arrest you, or give you a ticket, not just shoot at you like in GTA. It is so good it is even better than GTA Vice City, even though Vice City came out a few years later. Storyline/detail wise it is even better than San Andreas. I very recommend you to play this game!

What you thought hops

I saw this game when it was released and thought it was something to look forward to, but I never buy video games at full price. So I waited until I saw it at blockbuster for like ten dollars... and, well, it was a complete waste of ten dollars. Maybe its my ADD or something but this game is so boring that half the time I turn it off before one of the million "loading" screens finished. My review is probably not completely accurate as to the whole game considering I only completed about 1/8th of the game before I realized that I spent more time waiting at loading scenes for weak missions than I did actually effortlessly completing them. The free ride option of the game is stupid and endless with no point, the story is slow and unbelievable, and lastly the characters are just chumps - a stuttering car thief who teaches you how to steal cars? Maybe, just maybe if I could skip all those scenes in the bar, I might have given this game three stars but other than the historical feeling of the game, this games has got nothing.

This game isn't GTA but if you want to compare the two

Many people have pointed out the similarities with GTA III and Vice City, but this game isn't meant to be GTA III or Vice City. It wasn't meant to be a game where you just go around and blow up car after care and kill random people for the hell of it.

This game requires more strategy then sheer brute force, and in my opinion goes for realism way more then the GTA series. For example, you can't carry more then two long weapons, such as a Thompson and lets say a shotgun, and no more then a few handguns. It just isn't physically possible to conceal 30 weapons without raising some suspicion.

In GTA you can walk around with an Uzi in your hand and in front of the police. In this game the cops start shooting at you if you have a pistol drawn. You can't even run red lights without getting stopped for a ticket.

Now some of yous must be thinking this is a boring game if you have to follow traffic laws and you can't blow up everything you see to solve a problem. This game plays out more like a movie then a game and it requires you to use your head. So if you don't like to think to much when your playing a game and you just like to cause destruction, don't buy this game, its not for you.

As far as the cars, I have heard many people complaining about how the cars handle. Ok well, its the 1930's... cars were heavier back then and a lot more difficult to drive. One thing is for sure, they can take a hell of a lot more damage then the cars in GTA and the hoods don't pop off after you hit a pedestrian or some lightweight object. It takes several bullet holes and a few truck collisions before that happens.

Now as far as the game play goes, it plays out like a movie, you start out as a taxi driver, driving various people around, until you are forced into the mob. You start out doing little stupid errands and you gradually get into more deep stuff. There are a lot of cut scenes that explain the story and the story line is central to the game. This game isn't easy and you might get frustrated at some points, but so what... if you can beat a game without any frustration or by just hitting the quick save every two seconds then start living because in reality we cant hit quick save and restart everything that gets messed up... and I know this is a game, but like I said... this game is about realism and it has a story to tell.

The weapons look authentic as well as the way they sound. Unlike GTA, the weapons do have quite a kick depending on what your firing. As far as the race car level... its hard... its not unbeatable... and that's all I'm going to say on that. The blood looks real, heads don't explode or anything but your bullets will leave visible holes in the people you shoot. The layout of the city isn't to bad and like in GTA, once you drive around it for awhile you begin to know it like your own town or city.

If you love old gangster movies like the untouchables or your really into the society of the 1930's like gangsters, bootleggers, vintage cars, and some REALISTIC action to go along with it, then this is the game for you. But remember, this game isn't for everyone, its not for you gung ho "lets see how many things I can blow up before the swat teams come". I mean you could go on one of those get aways where the cops set up roadblocks and have guys with road spikes and Thompsons waiting for you, but no air assault troops coming at you within 3 mins of an explosion. But if that's what your looking for stick to GTA.

If you liked GTA there is also a free mode version built into the game where all you do is go around and kill gangsters, police, and anyone that ticks you off. You can steal cars and put them in your garage. Free mode isn't as cool as GTA but its nice to get away from the storyline every once in awhile.

When I bought this game I paid 50 dollars for it, and even though its down to like 10 bucks and you can get a sued copy for less, I would still be willing to pay another 50 for this game. I have replayed this game a thousand times and I'm still not bored of it.

well first off, this is the best game i've played in years. Its story is immersive, the controls are not particularly innovative but good none the less, and the action is realistic. One problem i have with the game though, is in the pruduct desciption, it mentions multiplayer, when i got the game, no multiplayer...hm. mafiamods.com is developing a multiplayer mod, so maybe ill download that. anyway, this game rules, and anyone who hasnt played it yet needs to right now.
